I'm a 9th generation Texan and HUGE Redsocks fan. The bloody ankle was the greatest display of pitching and sportsmanship in all of American sports history!
@@Badtown1988 He's not a 9th gen Texan either. My family goes back to the beginning of Texas and I'm only a 4th gen. My grandkids make it 6th, but 9th? No way.
I’m a Yankee fan, and I disagree with basically every political viewpoint that Curt possesses. That being said, I think he deserves to be in the HOF based on what he did on the field. I would vote for him if I had a chance.
What you said tells me we'd disagree politically. However, if you'd accomplished what Shilling has in baseball you'd have my vote. It seems neither of us are hypocrites.
I think that disagreeing with "basically every political viewpoint" of Schilling's is why N.Y.C. has turned into the shithole it is. (This coming from an ex-New Yorker)
@@seanturetken1732 dumb @$$ clowns like you are what’s wrong with our country. Sheep. Probably lull yourself to sleep humming the tune “orange man bad”. It’s ok to have an opinion that’s different than yours. Free speech is under attack by the communist dems.
@@seanturetken1732 Literally really ? You must not know that the definition of the word literally is meaning something that is actually true. No there are no literal kkk members in the Hall. There are literal racist though mostly some 19th century players like Cap Anson for one. Probably not as many as you think though.
@@mustang7603 Exactly right !! Communist even those masquerading under the softer term Socialist should be treated as they are. Traitors. And what do we do with traitors ?
I would assume you'd argue that his political views shouldn't keep him out of the Hall, and I'd agree. That being said, whether or not he's a "patriot" is also irrelevant.
@@balrog322 If he's not inducted, then its because the writers are biased against him because of his politics. Because he's got the numbers. He wouldn't wear a MAGA hat though, it would be cool if he did. I would hope he'd wear a Red Sox hat. I'm from Massachusetts.
Exactly, I think you're a leftist loser, and if you had a pitching career like his, and I had a vote , I'd vote for you on the first ballot. That's the difference those that think he's a "conservo-radical moon bat and rest of us that live real lives, and aren't indocrinated in "journalism" school.
One of the Best Post Season pitchers in baseball history, definitely a Hall of Famer! So sad what these ignorant sports writers are doing to him because they disagree with his political views! Don’t give in Curt! Stay strong in your beliefs!
His beliefs are fucking retarded, but his career still deserves to be enshrined in the hall because he is the best postseason pitcher ever. I just wish the writers could look past his shitty beliefs and vote for him.
Sports writers of 2021........are not the same as a few decades ago......i wonder what the writers of today do “ off the field “ ??.......maybe they should be under a microscope also...
@@imheel9727 Big Papi was on the 2003 team that came up short, granted because of a terrible decision by Grady Little, but even if they won the ALCS I’m not sure they would have beat the Marlins. Adding another frontline pitcher to compliment Pedro is what finally put them over the top.
Curt schilling is 216-146 3000 plus K’s less than 1000 bb. His wins are borderline but he 11-2 2.33 era in the postseason one of the best big games pitcher ever. But if it wasn’t for Mitch Williams and Kim blowning 3 games he will be 14-2 in the postseason. He should get in. And IMO if jack morris is in the hall, schilling should be.
Well said. He was a critical part of 2 of the most memorable postseason runs ever: Denying the Yankees a 4-peat and ending Boston’s curse. Had he not been great those two postseasons, how differently would that decade have been in baseball?
I'm just going to put this out there and if there are some of you that don't like it.. Well, I won't care anyway but.. Curt Schilling is a Hall of Famer... Period! That's statistically based. Not who he voted for in an election, Not for whatever political position he holds, Not for his opinions on things away from the game of baseball. It's for his play WITHIN THE GAME OF BASEBALL. PERIOD! I want to hear from you reading this. If you somehow have a legit reason why he shouldn't be in the HOF. Please.. Oh Please with a cherry on top.. Explain yourself.
I agree! It’s based on the writers opinion on if they like or dislike a player! Are you saying mike mussina has better career accomplishments than curt schilling? No he doesn’t but he is a good guy! Why iss the hall of fame entrance is on the guy character after his playing career? Time changes and the person changes. He isn’t about the uneducated liberals! He wants hard working people to accomplish their goals instead of hand outs.
It's also hypocrisy, they wouldn't give the Hall of Fame to Barry bonds, Roger Clemens and Alex Rodriguez for taking steroids but yet they gave it to David Ortiz who was tested positive for it And I don't even like Barry bonds or Roger Clemens at all but they definitely deserve the Hall of Fame
Roberto Clemente award is just that, an award, they don't look into a player's whole life. If you follow his post-career nonsense then you'd see why he hasn't been voted in, you can understand it but you don't have to agree with it.
My dad and I saw him pitch for the Charlotte Knights in 1988. He caught a line drive with his bare hand and we knew he was going to be a ML star. O's let another great one get away when they traded him to the Astros. 79.5 career WAR - probably top 20 RHP all time.
Great interview by Bob Costas. Him validating that voters didn’t agree with his political beliefs so they don’t vote for him &&& it’s great how he validated his overall career+playoff stats (such as the playoff teams he played in go 5-0 in elimination games @ 5:14)
Unfortunately, things outside of baseball, AFTER he retired, are going to keep him out of the Hall of Fame, the voters are unable to focus solely on his contributions. Even without the Bloody Sock game, he has the right to be in the Hall. But if one event can get a Hall of Fame induction, it is the Bloody Sock game. the fact that he was even able to play, let alone be very effective, is something that is so incredible, there should be zero doubt.
As ST Louis Cardinals fan, this man is a HOF! The Baseball writers are full of sh*t if they think he is not. It’s the Baseball HOF not your opinion on politics HOF
0, which shows how useless the sports media is. Everyone in the sports media is a book writer, a investigative reporter, or a political pundit who couldnt hack it
2:01 - 2:04 he answers his own question right here, Curt is and has always been a big mouth commenting on a lot of things which is fine ,but pushes the envelope to the point where he flat out pisses people off
@@King5150Ed So what if he pissed some of them off. They shouldn't vote based on their butthurt feelings. It's a simple question----was his playing career h.o.f. worthy? If yes, then vote yes even if you hate the guy
@@adampare8088 it's nothing to do with butthurt stuff.. reality is his numbers are borderline, and that's a fact. How you conduct yourself as a human being IS important. The problem with Curt is he's soo hateful and angry, its almost disturbing. He's been spouting off about everything since he's been retired. ... opinions are fine but he's really out there. I'm not offended by anything he says, i have thick skin and couldn't care less. Im not a democrat either (cause I know you'd go there) i was a fan of him forever throughout his playing days. ...so guess what? At the end of the day when he's done tweeting and raging and so on, nobody cares... seriously.... his anger is not gonna change anything....hope it was worth it for him? Idk? Whatever
If he did not cheat with steroids or similar, then he deserves to be in the hall of fame. You may not agree with his personal views or beliefs but they do not count for his sport records
@Harry Engel HOCKEY! The Rangers hadn't won a cup in decades when Messier, who had, brought a championship to then, just as Curt did for the Red Sox. A great player and inspirational leader with incredible big game accomplishments and success, equivalent in his sport to Schilling in baseball, rightfully inducted in the HOF, like Schilling should've been years ago. So called "post season" accomplishments separate some greats from others and Curt (who because of poor managing decisions was deprived of 2 more post season wins), warrants a place in the HOF, with a letter of apology for the ridiculous delay. The analogy of Messier is a compliment.
as baseball goes he belongs in the H.O.F ,what people say and act on about poltics has no being on what a great pitcher Curt Schilling was in Baseball yes!! he has earned his spot in the Baseball H.O.F.
Some people need to put their ego aside and do the right thing. This man is a HoFer. Period. Bad guys are guys like Charles Manson, Ted Bundy and Bernie Madoff. You may not like Curt, but he belongs in the hall.
He looks a bit beat down, possibly humbled by all the criticism. (of his own making btw) I completely agree he should be in the HOF, it should be based on performance and not decided by wether an athletes political views align with the writers. The current phenomenon of dividing people because they have an opposing opinion is a cancer, you don’t have to like or agree to treat someone as a human being first. If nothing else by doing this you are being a light for that person to look at.
Humans make all sorts of mistakes ,public and private, known and unknown. Does character effect performance? Are all hall members great people? Or are they just great players?
Curt Schilling HOF status is clear. He is being kept out because of his opinions and beliefs. I'm might not agree with his philosophies but I can separate that from what he did in his career. This is coming from a person who grew up a Yankee fan. He deserves it, and the fact he is being left out while the HOF has individuals with far worse reputations is criminal.
You know, I don't even know who got in this year. Much of the reason I don't care is that the baseball writers seem to make the voting process about them and not the folks they're voting on. It's just not as relevant to me anymore.
None did, which actually makes your point. There are at least 5 players who should have gotten in this year, but they didn't because of what you point out: their ego's and who they think is "worthy" and making it about them. It's a sad, pathetic joke at this point.
There are a lot of terrible people in the HOF. It’s not the hall of nice. That being said, he’s a POS. A terrible human. And this is from a lifelong Sawx fan.
If Curt Schilling is not in the Hall of Fame because a bunch of childish journalists want to make political points, that tells me that they are not very comfortable about the moral foundation their politics are based on. I agree with much of what Schilling says, but if I didn't, I would still happily vote for him because I'm confident enough that I'm correct, that I don't have to act like a child and hold my precious vote over him. Playing petty games is not done from a position of strength, it is done when you can no longer challenge someone ideologically with a well rounded argument based on objective reasoning. And Costas, to his credit gets this because he disagrees with Curt ideologically, but he isn't a child about it.
As an Atlanta Braves fan and a Yankees hater... I can tell you that he's a fucking Hall of Famer. He always whooped the Braves which pissed me off. Then the Yankees which made me happy. Gun to my head. Life on the line. I want him on the mound.
This is why Curt deserves the HOF, and Pete Rose doesn't. Curt never lied to the nation, for many years at that, about his behavior within baseball. Curt has always been an honest guy, and whether you liked his views or not (that rope-tree bit was very cringeworthy), he represented the game well. Rose vehemently denied illegal actions that were proven to be true from the start. America can be a forgiving nation, when you own up. Had Rose owned up when he got banned, he might be in the HOF now. It sounds to me like Curt is owning up, and what he did was stupid, not dishonest.
He's definitely a hall-of-famer based on his on-field achievements, which is all that should matter. That said, there is a lesson to be learned here: If you feel the need to run your mouth on social media and piss people off with your arrogance, don't be surprised if they respond in kind.
