I just don’t think we can overstate how lucky we are to share this life with Bob Dylan. There are so few parallels to what he has accomplished as an artist in our history. If you have a chance to see him perform live, I can’t recommend it strongly enough. Thank you, Bob, for everything.
I have seen him 2 times live...about 20 years apart...truly an Nobel Prize winning writer and one of the people who changed the direction of rock-in-roll, again and has been every since...he has influenced more artists in every genre in the last half of the 20th century. TY Bob
I’m 25 and have been listening to a Bob Dylan since I was about 19 after hearing so much about that name...at first I rejected his music because of his voice but I tried once more a few weeks later and never turned back...Bob Dylan is truly one of the greatest people to ever write in the English music and his music is the greatest gift I’ve ever found. Bob has changed my life through his words and music and I’m forever grateful for him. Not enough can be said about him. One America’s greatest gifts to the world. Thank you Bob.
Very well said. I don't think another Singer/Songwriter could ever again have his impact on the world as he did. Like The Beatles you get it once and never again. When you factor in his profound effect on The Civil Rights Movement, then the synthesis of Folk Rock, with Mr. Tambourine Man, and The Byrds, along with the mind blowing Like A Rolling Stone, which was so far beyond standard top 40 Fare at the time.
4:55 was amazing to see, I was like "wait, what...WHAT?" when I hear and see him in the studio singing "The Man in Me". That was an instant goosebump moment. I never knew that existed, so fricken cool.

I have always longed to see some footage from his recording process, there is surprisingly very little of it available. Seeing that little clip gives me hope that someday we can see some live footage of how he interacted in the studio and of the musicians around him making these golden records. I wish I was a Dylan "Scholar" haha.
Reading the chatter below about Dylan's "horrible voice" reminded me of an incident. As a young married couple in the late 60"s my wife and I disagreed on most things art and music. Once, while I was listening to one of Dylan's early albums at home she said something about "a howling dog". I was so impressed I asked her "You mean Howlin' Wolf"? She said "No, I mean he sounds like a howling dog". The thing about Dylan for me is that you come for the music and the poetry but you stay for the message. Sometimes there is no message - just a thought. His voice has little to do with it. It's like an elevator taking you to different levels of consciousness. Sometimes he takes you to the penthouse. Other times you never leave the ground floor. And, if you know the difference you are lucky. Thank you Bob.
I liked his music in the 60s even his voice but now in his and my older years I am hearing and seeing different levels of consciousness. I have to explore his music again.
Beautifully told, Sunday Morning! This piece had a poetry of its own, and that’s impressive and wonderful! I grew up in the Village and saw Dylan walking, alone, down my street, Minetta. I was on my stoop. I froze. This was in the mid-80’s. I was 11 or so, but I sure knew who Dylan was. He passed me by, I looked at him and smiled a big dumb toothy smile. He smiled back, kind of nodded his head. “A kid…” he must have thought. But his words and music had already woven their way into that kid- deeply. Those 4 seconds I’ll always cherish. Quality, not quantity, no?
Hendrix idolized and adored Dylan. It was heartwarming to see that letter. I must get to Tulsa. But for now, I'll just forget about today until tomorrow.
The lyrics of "Blowing In The Wind" and "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" still resonate me". These two songs motivate me to keep me learning and searching.
Wow! Dylan’s been a big inspiration to me. I even wrote and recorded a song called “Hey Bobby” detailing how his music kept my drug taking at a manageable and non-fatal level until I totally kicked it. This was almost 15 years ago. Love ya Bob!
I think Bob sings for the people that are listening. Many people hear him especially the ones that are listening. His lyrics target the active mind. He wasn't selling to the average consumer.
Ideally, I would like to see the museum in Minnesota, which is where he was born. (Speaking as a proud Minnesotan.) I often enjoy the covers of Dylan's tunes by other artists, sometimes more than the original. CBS Sunday Morning has pleasant stories to calmly start the week in a chaotic world.

He was one of the few on my bucket list to see before to long.He had a great band,and it was a really good night of music.I told myself I can now sleep at night.I never got to see the Rolling Stones but they still a fan favorite. I've heard other artists sing his songs, and now in 2023, I'm continuing my discovery of Bob singing his songs. I guess you could say I'm digging into his albums for the first time, and I like some of the songs that I'm hearing him sing so far. My favorite song of his is "Lay, Lady Lay." Bob Dylan is a true poet, and he just might have a new fan coming, me!
I’m originally from the same area in Northern Minnesota that Dylan is from (born in Virginia, MN 20 miles from Hibbing, MN). It’s always been rather perplexing to know that he came from there. It’s also gives me an enormous sense of pride. There’s no one like Bob, and there never will be. 😊✌🏻🇺🇸
What's crazy is that I feel like I own these songs myself. From Nashville Skyline on... and Blood On The Tracks especially. I knew bits and pieces of his earlier work from the folkie scene. But I was a greatest hits kid, always picking a Beatles record before something I probably couldn't understand like Highway 61. I saw Cream and Hendrix before owning that masterpiece. But even working backwards, I've been living with this music for over 50 years. How does it feel? It feels like my (our) autobiography.
You want to experience Dylan. Take a Greyhound to Duluth Minnesota, hitch a ride on a North bound freight up the Mesabi and take the long walk to Hibbing. The soul coming out of that dirt was gold.
At one point in my life, I thought Dylan was the next thing to God. His music played a very important role in my formative years. I tried to figure out the meaning of some of the lyrics he wrote and was always misinterpreting his words. The man has left a lasting impact on numerous generations and has established a legacy that will live on long after he is gone
When Dylan won the Nobel prize, I remember seeing his biography, which I found interesting because, his story is thrilling throughout his career as a songwriter. On the other hand, if the music is considered "Literature", then Bob has the Nobel of Literature more than deserved. So, that's why I'm glad he's won this acclaimed prize.

Too cold most of the time for the people that would be interested in going to see it. They're recognizing their demographic and appear to be trying to be as accommodating as possible.

My painting teacher Sir Paul Castagna painted Dylan frequently and only listened to Dylan while he painted to the detriment of all the kids -but not me!
Does Tulsa have a live music culture? Blues Maybe? I don't know, I haven't heard. I'm thinking the city should maybe provide some incentives for development along these lines. All of these people, including me, we're going to need something to do in town. What about restaurants?
I visited Tulsa recently because of their amazing history of Art Deco architecture. Highly recommend that you see that. There’s also a beautiful park that goes on for acres and acres called “The Gathering Place” that was completely awe-inspiring. Lots of good local restaurants, too. Tulsa is a good place to visit once and say you’ve been there. It’s never going to be a Nashville or San Francisco-type destination, but you can definitely make a good long weekend of it. Cheers!

It was originally recorded in the spring of 1989 during the Oh Mercy studio sessions, but was not included on the album. It was also later anthologized on Dylan (2007).”
Some of the best stuff only being made “available to the scholars,” seems quite antithetical to Dylan, IMO. (Of course, as with all quality curations, steps must be taken to protect the source material. You don’t want people tearing or spilling coffee on the manuscripts.) But certainly scanned versions of the documents, and viewable copies of the videos, could (and I’d argue should) be included for everyone to enjoy and learn from - at least for the price of admission. There are some good Dylan books and scholarship, but just like with the Grateful Dead I’m not sure that the “scholars“ know more, or have any greater insight, than the thousands of devoted super fans. (I’d rather hear Bill Walton talk about the Dead or John Dickerson discuss Dylan, than someone with the title of “Dylan Scholar” lol - a title Dylan himself would probably roll his eyes at). In any event, I’m very grateful that this center was put together, and I look forward to visiting it with my sons at some point, hopefully before too long. But if the billionaire benefactor is, in fact, a true Dylan fan, I hope he gets the entire collection to be made accessible to the public in some form.
Then there's the sense of humor. "I can't help it if I'm lucky". Find it and comment. I grew up in the shadow of his childhood. My grandmother lived next to the Iron ore red train tracks that led from where he'd just left from for New York. He isn't aloof. He's being more while dodging a very powerful past.
Most museums have such huge collections that it’s hard to exhibit it all. They keep it open to scholars to better control who’s handling the pieces for better preservation. Kinda sucks but for anything to be public, they have to make room for it and present it in an interesting way. Bob’s bootleg series is more open than most artists get with their alternate takes as it is
Tulsa Oklahoma? seems like a really bad place to have this especially because he has no real connection to Tulsa, seems something like this is better served in Minnesota where he is from or NYC where he got his start.

@@jusliving7977 This is an old and silly argument. Every voice is different. Today you can get them auto-tuned against drums machines if that's what you like. Listen to the jazz greats on tenor sax. They have different timbres. Is Lester Young greater that Coleman Hawkins or John Coltrane because his tone isn't as raspy? So what if Joan Baez had a prettier voice than the blues greats? It's about expression. Listening to early Dylan was like listening to a kid possessed by a prophet. If you can't hear it, oh well.
