My little brother and I are big Dylan fans. We both thought then and now that the born again albums were some of the best work he’d ever done. Very energized with strong vocals and music.

A lot of people hated Dylan when he went Gospel. I have seen Bob Dylan 6 times live and never once did he play a song the same as the previous time. He would change the lyrics on the spot, go from 3/4 to 4/4 time in the middle of a song. He did what he wanted to when he wanted to. If you were expecting Dylan to do what pleased you forget it! Be thankful we had such a musical genius in our time. The 6 times I saw him he played "Tangled up in Blues" each time. He changed the lyrics 4 of those times, he also changed the pace of the song. Never once did it sound like the album recording. Once during his gospel stage he actually added Bible references to the song. Its easy to find different versions on the song just do some searching. The man is amazing. I have a huge book called Bob Dylan ALL THE SONGS, it gives a brief story behind every track. Dylan has written over 500 songs recorded by over 2000 different artist. Still to day Bob Dylan is covered by many artist during their concerts. I love Bob and what he gave us and I am grateful to have been alive during this time.

I've heard at least 8 different "Tangled" Lyrics from live recordings and personal shows. And you're absolutely right. When you go to a Dylan show, drop all expectations. If you want young Bobby, stay home and enjoy some vinal. If you want to go to a show expect to see an 80 Y.O. living legend being himself. The last time I saw Bob live (2016) was my 10th show and my daughter's first. Mavis Staples opened for him. He was into "crooner" covers at the time (i.e. Frank Sinatra). So after several slow covers, brand new songs and only two classics (She Belongs to Me, Tangled Up In Blue), about half the audience got up and left at set break. The rest of us "true Dylan Heads" stayed put and enjoyed the 21st Century setlist with no "original classics." The oldest Dylan song in the 2nd set was from 2001 "High Water (for Charlie Patton)" He Encored with "Blowin in the wind" AND Love Sick." Hope to see him in the summer though.

@@augustinewestley7310 Exactly don't expect anything you recognize at a Dylan concert. I as well saw him in 2016. I went with my two daughters their first Dylan show also. They both love Dylan and didn't care one bit they couldn't understand a word he said. When in the presence of greatness you adapt and appreciate what you are seeing and what he gave us. Dylan nowadays in a tuxedo and cowboy hat. Just sad these days he very very very rarely plays the guitar

Really really lucky we still have him. His voice is gone but he can still move me. Last saw him in 96 or so just b4he almost died from that viral thing. Afterwards he said he thought he was gonna see Elvis. He re-ignighted something after that and finally for the first time in his "famous life"he got used to being"Bob Dylan" and slowly settled in to the wonderful performer we still get today. Every time I drop the needle on"Like A Rolling Stone"and I hear that snare drum kick off from the start, I'm freaking 19yrs.old again and all is right with the universe. God bless Bob Dylan!!!

What a artist, folk, blues, rock, gospel, big band, jazz, protest, the biggest artist in the world with the beatles. But when it came to lyrics and phrasing, imagery, nobody came close. When he sings about pain loss, and love you can feel it in his voice, you believe him it's like he's talking me/you, for me that's the difference I believe DYLAN I believe every word. Bobby Neuwirrh got right, that the fans came to Dylan Dylan never went to the fans, he did what he wanted to do not what was the thing at the time, nobody was doing what Dylan was doing, don't think they could, many had a go.

Making changes you got it, someone said the fans came to BOB DYLAN he never did the "cool" thing what was in at the time. DYLAN just went what was in his heart. And he smashed it, some of the best Christian songs written. DYLAN was never scared to be different, you would never know what kind of album you would get from him.

This was excellent thank you for listening to my suggestion, I still think you could do the Chicago Mass Choir version with Dottie Peoples as a comparison reaction and it would still work nicely.and I think you should react to one of the songs from the new cd Rough and Rowdy Ways, important to remind people he is still out there working every night. Now that you have listened to my suggestions about Dylan, I hope now you will tackle Tom Waits, keeping my fingers crossed and hoping. Thanks Larry

Please check out a Dylan folk contemporary from the 60s, Phil Ochs (pronounced Oaks). A number of his songs are incredibly powerful and reflect the problems of that era: "I Ain't Marching Anymore" (an anti-war anthem); "Too Many Martyrs" (about the murder of Medgar Evers); "Here's to the State of Mississippi" (about the murders of three civil rights workers there); "Knock on the Door" (about dictatorships that eliminate their enemies); "I'm Gonna Say It Now" (about freedom of speech--especially on campuses); and "Outside of a Small Circle of Friends" (bitter sarcasm about people's unwillingness to get involved). He's largely been forgotten since he tragically died in 1976, but is well worth a listen.

It was during this period that I first started hoping that he would make a Christmas album. Again, many people ragged on him in 2009 for releasing a Christmas album, but it’s great (I have about 80 Christmas albums from everybody, so I know). I’m also a big Standard Jazz fan, so his detour into that genre was an initial letdown (not so much him, but the band), however, by the time he got to Triplicate, his take on Standard Jazz was as good as anybody. When it was released, I listened to it from start to finish everyday for a couple of months (the gravitas resonates for him, in the same way Unforgiven does for Clint Eastwood).
