I think what is very important to notice is that he treats each individual as an individual on their own terms. He is quite articulate with genuine questions, dismissive of ridiculous questions, and polite with those who are simply naive but mean no harm.

Bob Dylan is my favourite musician ever, since I first heard him when I was about eight, but I love so much more as well! I'm really into mid-fifties Rock 'n Roll and 1930's orchestra; it makes you want to Charleston all over the place (: And punk! I love punk!

Hey it's Bill Graham at 6:29 asking a question to Dylan. Watching this you get a little sense of the San Francisco scene just by watching the reporters and some of the characters in the room. It was just a year or so away from the Summer of Love and the full blown hippie movement. Very interesting.

Have you not seen the whole interview? At one point, he discusses a concert he was invited with the Jefferson Airplane and the Great Society! I couldn't believe it.

I can't really identify with the people (on youtube and during the press conference itself) who say Dylan seems reluctant, or shy, or embarrassed. To me he just seems a lot cooler than everyone else.

"Do you tour in the south?" "Yeah" I don't know why this made me laugh so much, it just seemed so pointless a question and just a nonchalant response and it was like nobody else even heard it.
@rlfstr
@rlfstr 13 лет назад
@chillepalmerz I think it has something to do with the fact he doesn't trust media or hold those reporters in high regard, and hence is extremely careful with what he says or how he answers, and that just creates that sort of awkwardness between them.

There's also the fact that Dylan was a true musician, to me meaning that he didn't do it for the fame or fortune, but for himself. I, myself, am an avid downhill skateboarder and see the same thing happening; kids in the sport all caught up in wanting a sponsorship when they've done next to nothing, when the real skaters are out there doing it because they love it. A sponsorship will just come to you, and just like Dylan said, fame just kinda crept up on him.

Bob isnt necessarily shy but he isnt at his natural state when talking to these reporters. Hes an introvert. Also he doesnt really know the answer to alot of these stupid questions and is just doing the interview to be nice and he still realizes that these people are intrested and have a job to do so he agreed to the interview. Also he is nervous like anybody would be and he doesnt like to share alot about himself and is a little put off by why these people would invest so much thought in him

It's funny that he's got a poster of the Fillmore Auditorium in 65' when the Fillmore (run by Graham) didn't start-up until 66'. We went to all of the shows that Bill put on until the early part of 67' when it became way too popular and crowded.

@ralfsu I also think it's just plain more entertaining to watch the way he acts here then it would have been if he had given straight, serious answers. What I love about Dylan's music is that it combines honest, subversive beauty, with silly absurdism, and with musical tradition. Here he combines interesting honest opinions with entertaining silliness, while creating his own unique persona. People want to put him in an easy box so they say "he's just messing around" or "he's just shy"

@jerryhello100 you all want him to be that perfect poet , with strong beliefs etc. but the truth is he was a music lover , a music man.the fact that he had a strong character isn't what made him leave his home town it's his love for music an passion for writing songs.music is his thing.everything he ever did was really personal.

@jerryhello100 and the truth is that has nothing to do with what we think of him an make of his songs.or the fact that he was anxious talking to people he didn't know and wasn't comfortable with.i never said he was shy.i was giving another example of performers that didn't do well with people for various reasons.

@jerryhello100 well they are two different things.he just has a huge personal space and gets anxious talking with and being closely surrounded by people he doesn't know or who do not know him.performing is one thing but staying in a huge room full of strange people that want to ask you a bunch of questions can be really frustrating. :) i just thought that is why he smoked so much.and bit his lips a lot,and why he didn't like giving interviews.

I get Dylan's point of "it's just happened". There's no way to explain anything about Dylan or anything in life. Things happen, why, who knows? Shows me that the median of "the press" has been useless since it's inception.

@octygirl

@jerryhello100 but they still were good performers.you're making smth of him that he never was and i think that kind of perception put a lot of pressure on him when he was young .and i also think that your idea that only strong people can do great it's kinda' sick.it is true passion that drives people no matter the anxieties or wtvr.sure he liked to contradict people but that was because he really had faith in his beliefs and in himself.and that doesn't contradict my opinion on his anxiety.
