Bob I'm 51 and on oxycodones for 3 herniated disks in my back. I've had 9 back surgeries and I'm seeing an orthopedic surgeon about getting the bad ones removed. I don't really get high from the pills because of my pain levels. if I didn't have them I don't know how I could function day to day. it's a shame junkies are making it hard for us legit patients to receive proper assistance. not everyone who takes pain meds is a junkie or completely out of control I absolutely hate it when people use this stereotype I'm 24 on pain management for 6 years now I'm active and living my life in a positive way. It's terrible for people who need and thrive from pain management we have to jump through so many hoops just to get medicine. for people who need it, it's just like blood pressure or any other kind of medication it's very frustrating the stigma people put on pain meds.

Not everyone is using opiates to get high.just cuz you have a weakness for drugs don't mean we all do.

This kinda pisses me off. BACK PAIN! If you had ever HAD serious back pain you would think differently. I get it. Don't get me wrong, but yes, people with chronic pain should have access to the meds they need, The "real epidemic in America" is that people who need meds can't get them! "PLAIN AND SIMPLE!"

I broke my wrist really badly, was on Oxy for the pain. I went and got another prescription on 2 or 3 occasions afterwards. I think it was 10 tablets each time (quite strict here in Australia) The doctor told me on the last one, don't come back here for them anymore because I'm not going to give them to you, they are extremely addictive and you will mess your life up by taking them. By this stage I didn't need them that often, it was only really if I hit my wrist on something or slept on it awkwardly or something like that. So I agreed not to get anymore, I think they lasted me like 3 weeks, when the previous packs only lasted me a few days to a week max. I realised how dangerous they were though, they felt so good when on them, you just felt euphoric the whole time. I'm glad that doctor was great at her job.

I’ve had 2 back surgeries after service in the Marine Corps and over a decade in law enforcement. These medications I don’t take for recreational use. They are so I’m some semblance of a normal life and not one of lethargy. Bob is obviously a guy who took drugs strictly for recreational purposes. You can see the hard living in his face. This blanket narrative of being “sober “ is nonsense. I’ve had zero negative experiences while on my medication and my life has not spiraled out of control. But, the huge profit in shaming people for needing medication in some cases is nonsense. But he would be out of a job if he didn’t say ignorant statements like these medications are for only those who are dying. Personally, I think he looks like a junkie and unprofessional still. I just get bothered by lumping everyone into one group and acting like it’s all black and white and matter of fact like his statements indicated he feels.

this guy was soooo much more tolerable when he was on drugs and said he would kill himself onstage. Now, he scrutinizes everyone for smoking pot because he is clean. We are all going to die from breathing air, but if doing "drugs" makes me happier, what the big deal? Drugs are bad because someone said they were.

I have a father in much pain and a friend who I lost to cancer who got those meds. In Sweden where I live its much harder to get those medicines. It should be hard to get them since they are so addictive

My mom had degenerative discs , she never took pain pills , ever , she would buy pain spray and pain patches, she said she did not like the way pain pills made her feel. She was the strongest woman I will ever know. She could have had the best pain pills and she always refused them.

I remember getting this after surgery just got like 8 of them over time and they stopped giving because i loved it so much, now I know why. A one 5 mg of them made me feel so heavy relaxed and sleepy, i have never felt that way before. It was like heaven. I remember looking at the reflection of the hospital window and thinking i saw faces there lol so yeah its quiet powerful even on small doses.

I had a work accident 160 kg fell out of a truck on me head totally crushed my spine from t1 to t5 disk I've been prescribed oxycodone and targin unfortunately I'm so addicted now it's horrible knowing I'm very addicted but scary to think if I can function and get through a day without it as I wake up in lots of pain I feel like I'm screwed I think if I didn't have the meds and had to deal with the pain this long I may have topped myself but I hate having a dependency I just don't know what to do

Apparently I’m not an addicting person! Before my back surgery to remove a cyst that continued to grow between L4 and L5 I had to take Several of these drugs to relieve my pain! After my surgery the pain went away and I didn’t need these drugs any longer!

As a Percocet popper it’s all about Mind over matter YOU DONT NEED IT . Forget about it some times I done take for a couple months just to see if I will . Cause Ik I Can . Always remember YOU CAN .

What he is saying, every word couldn't be more true and hit the point better. People who disbelieve need to watch some documentaries and hear some experts to that topic, 5 from 10 heroin users never did any drug before and got started with Oxycodone.

I had a few left over from my wisdom teeth surgery that I took three times when I was bored I know I'm not addicted because I don't have anymore and am not seeking them out but watching all these videos made me pretty ashamed that I took them for fun a few times.

great point about everyone living with pain of some kind. I really doubt its possible for anyone to be responsible with opiates in the long term. no matter how legit ur reason is for taking them, sooner or later u will chase the high more then the pain releif. anyone whos about to start a roxy, oxy, dilaudid, fentynal, methadone regimen for pain ask urself, have i done EVERYTHING else possible to help the pain.

@valhala56 a) your rant makes no sense. you could at least read over it before hitting 'post.' b) there will not be a day that pain killers will be 'almost non-existent.' and furthermore, that is NOT what this video is discussing. this is about the ABUSE of painkillers- caused by people's lack of self-control (which is both learned and genetic) and bad doctors being comfortable prescribing these drugs for money reasons (from pharm companies to street drug dealers to celebs paying them off)

He's wrong when he minimizes the pain of migraine, back pain, fibromyalgia, tendinitis or any host of chronic pain conditions. However, opioid medicines ought to be the drug of last resort, and then, only for as long as necessary to stabilize the patient's condition. Under no circumstances other than intractable pain from an imminently fatal condition should opiates be given for more than two weeks. There are better medicines for migraines that go to the source of the problem, anti-inflammatory medicines should be used for back pain and tendinitis, etc. They might not necessarily make you "feel no pain" but they don't take your life away through tolerance, increased dosages and addiction. Oxycontin is one fucking evil product. Oxycodone is a great pain reliever, but never for anything longer than 2 weeks.

Everyone has an opinion, but this guy has a first-hand experience with opiate addiction. I am an RN also, and I see the misuse of opiates and pain-killers every single day. It's an issue that many different parties can be fingered about. Pharmaceutical companies, the government, and private-practice MDs. There is a downward spiral happening in that people are trying to treat their symptoms instead of the actual problem. There is no black and white here. Always different when it's you, too.
