I was 14 years old, when my brother Pat, the former Southern Area Light Heavyweight Champion, took me to see this. I can remember it as though it was yesterday. And I still have the programme to this day! My brother Pat was Fosters chief sparring partner at the BBBC gym in Haverstock Hill in Hampstead. Bob was a great person who took time out for all the fans that turned up to see him. Finnegan, did the UK proud that night. He couldn’t have lost to a greater champion. No disgrace there. RIP both of you great men. 🙏🏼🥊
Wow. Although he lost that was one of the greatest efforts ive seen from a British fighter. Not just up against any world champion either but one of the greatest light heavyweights ever in Bob Foster. Enjoyed watching that.
Bob Foster, with his lanky non- muscular build and pencil thin legs, looks like he couldn't break an egg with his punches. But he had wicked, one punch knockout power. Natural, God-given punching power.
Foster had a beautiful left!! Thudding jab. Finnegan looked like he was hit with a power punch. This crowd had Finnegan feeling invincible. Such an advantage with the adrenaline kicking in. Kind of amazing how Foster leaves his left so low almost insultingly low baiting the his opponent to attack so he could catch them on the way in.
I love a good fight, the country or nationality of the fighters is of no importance to me. With that said I’m curious if all Brit commentator’s so biased?? They always seem insecure or something. If I was from England it would bother me. Through the first few rounds if you were simply listening and not watching you would think Finnegan was lucky. He was skilled as hell but for whatever reason these commentators just can’t give credit we’re credit is do with the British guys. it’s infuriating.
Actually Foster was much more noted for his left hook! His ko's of Dick Tiger & Mike Quarry with that hook are among the most noted in history when you talk about left hooks!
