Bob Glidden's '73 and '75 NHRA World Champ 1973 Pinto Pro Stocker. It was restored by Bruce Weiss back in '1991. I apologize for the video quality as it was taped on VHS and converted to digital. It was captured at Miami Hollywood Motorsports Park during an all Ford event early 1991, making a shakedown run.

When I seen the Pinto on the strip,I hadn't even read the headline yet,my thoughts immediately went to Bob! I lived about 30 miles from him. I always enjoyed watching him race & almost always win at the NATIONALS! One year he broke on the line & lost against "Dyno"! One day I was watching an NHRA event on tv. They were showing highlights of Bob's career, & announced his passing. Both shocked & saddened is a huge understatement! So many of the greatest Ford racers are gone now, & he's the one that hurt me the most. I'm glad he was able to carry on with the Pinto. I wish him all the best,make Bob proud!❤👍

I remember in the early seventies Glidden and Grumpy Jenkins match racing at the summer national events. Low 9's to high 8's and the fans loved it !!

It's a shame most of these old pro stockers sitting in museums. Nice to see this one out working. Whether your a Chevy,Ford,or Mopar fan I think we could all agree Bob Glidden and a handful of others were geniuses when it came to gaining that little edge over their competition. It didn't come easy back then these guys basically lived in their shops.

I found out that, if you wanna be the champ, you better marry the damned car! I won division 1 GTP championship in '97 doing just that. Won every race but one and sneezed a motor that time. Those old timers were right about the marriage...

bob glidden , the greatest drag racer EVER !!!!!!!

@scootergeorge7089 2 года назад
Really? Great as he is, I believe Don "Big Daddy" Garlits is the greatest drag racer ever. Most pro stock wins ever was by Warren Johnson with 97. That's a dozen more than Glidden who I rooted for against Grumpy in the seventies, at Pomona.

@@scootergeorge7089 Glidden would have had a lot more wins if the NHRA didn't penalized the Ford Cleveland engines. Against the SBC the Ford cars were 300lbs heavier and 150lbs heavier vs BBC.
@scootergeorge7089
@scootergeorge7089 2 года назад
@@chucktaylor9190 - If you want to bring up weight breaks, the Hemi cars were the first to dominate Pro Stock. They only stopped winning when penalized. And Glidden switched to the Boss 429 for a while. May have ran out of parts!

@scootergeorge7089 2 года назад
@@chucktaylor9190 - In 1974, Hemi cars were set at 7.00 pounds per cubic inch. That was the heaviest. But wheelbase also came into play. And it seemed every year, NHRA was changing the rules. A lot of Hemi guy went to AHRA or IHRA. Glidden was an all time great but a large part of his skill was building a car to take advantage of fluctuating rules.

I remember having to repair the front end on it when the trotttle hung open at George Ray's. I was watching it go down the track and we were hollering for him to lift as it turned left, then right, and then a big swing to the left and hung a pole. the cage was well built as it stayed square and we only had to rebuild the right half of the front end. That acid dipped body was super thin.

The Probe was slated to replace the Mustang. As soon as fans of the car found out, FoMoCo was told in no uncertain terms that a front wheel drive Mazda was no Mustang. The Probe, nice as it was, was shelved. The Mustang live on. And didn't Glidden also run a Fairmont?
