Love PJK? Let the world know! www.redbubble.com/people/AusQ... Prime Minister Bob Hawke responds to the censure motion brought by opposition leader John Hewson.
Not Australian, I’m Canadian and I enjoy following your politics given our similar heritage and culture. Bob Hawke is my favourite Australian PM. Reminds me of Jean Chrétien.
Good call. Funny as well to think that the relationship between Chrétien and Martin was similar to that between Hawke and Keating! Granted I think Chrétien and Martin disliked each other way more haha.
Way back in the day when Australians demanded integrity from their politicians. Oh how times have changed. The Parliament today is so full of shit, we need to elect engineers and plumbers to flush the bastards out.
"In that the end of last year I issued a challenge to you fellows and there has been the thundering silence ever since I asked you if you really were the custodians of some philosophy, and some commitment to micro-economic reform, you would be able to answer my challenge which was very explicit. You tell me once with your period of government wher you came within a bulls roar of that record of micro-economic achievement and there's still the thunderous silence to that challenge which I put to you at the end of last year. You can't do and you can't do it for the simple reason. One, you didn't do it and secondly it was not an accident in all your period of office you didn't do anything about micro-economic reform, it's because you've got neither the wit, the wisdom, the guts or the facility to deal with the Australian community to bring those results about." Damn.
Cool, thanks for transcribing! 👍 The coalition were notorious for telling furphies but more so were caught with their pants down often by Hawke and Keating.
Now Bob was the best from the mould of Gough Whitlam the staunch left of the old labor party and loved the people and the people loved him Medicare was his little baby and couldn't he drink a beer
Hawke, Keating, Bomber Beazley and the others were all great at hammering the Opposition. And they had plenty to be proud of because of their successful policies.
Passion, intellect, character, and audacity, the likes of which we haven't seen in parliament for too long. Today's pollies are a bloody joke, which is why I refuse to vote for any of them. They have to try harder to earn my vote.
In the seventees with rolling power outages that disrupted business and domestic life, one person stood tall and imposed his character and intellect. Bob Hawke bought the issues to light and gained accord, problem solved. Show me a man who could do that now.
It is such a shame few today can articulate themselves in such a manner, with articulate aggression, not dumbed down nor waffling on. Hope the new Albanese government can emulate the better elements of Hawke and Keating's.
Bob's response was flat and lifeless compared to PJK's response later in the debate it was pretty much the beginning of the end. Keating's response went to the heart of the opposition's argument and put a stake in it.
Hawke's ego let him and Labor down badly. He gave his word to Keating to step down then dogged out when the agreed time came. Could've been our greatest but his ego was big enough for 2 men
It would have been cleaner but at the end of the day Keating was able to take over and won that fifth election. It worked out well in the end. Well, until Little Johnny got his hands on the tiller…
Yeah but Keating had his go to Bob didn't have the numbers so Keating rolled him they didn't do each others any Favour's but it was a great era for the labor party
