Footage of Bob Hope entertaining the GI's and Airmen at Korat Air Base and Camp Friendship. He then does the same at Takhli Air Base. The lovely Ann Sidney from London England, who was Miss World 1964, makes an appearance to the delight of the Airmen and the boys of the 809th Engineer Battalion! The video also features Jerry Colonna. This was during the construction of Korat.
In response to the Gulf of Tonkin Incident on 31 July 1964, the 6441st Tactical Fighter Wing at Yokota Air Base, Japan deployed 8 F-105D Thunderchiefs of the 36th Tactical Fighter Squadron to Korat on 9 August and commenced operations the following day. The 36th TFS remained at Korat until October 29th then returned to Japan. It was replaced by the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron, also flying F-105D Thuds, which was deployed from the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing. From 30 October through 31 December 1964, F-105s from the 80th Tactical Fighter Squadron were deployed from the 41st Air Division, Yokota AB, Japan.
At Takhli In response to the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, 10 F-100s from the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 405th Fighter Wing at Clark Air Base were deployed. The Clark F-100s remained at Takhli until 20 August 1965 on a rotating basis. In May 1964 Takhli became a forward deployment base for rotational F-105 Thunderchief squadrons. The 35th Tactical Fighter Squadron was deployed to Takhli from Yokota AB, between May 1964 - June 1964 and between 26 August-28 October 1965. The 80th Tactical Fighter Squadron, deployed to Takhli between 26 June-26 August 1965 from the 6441st TFW, at Yokota AB, Japan.
Bhumibol Adulyadej the King of Thailand also makes an appearance and is enjoying playing some music! Reigning since 9 June 1946, he was the world's longest reigning head of state from the death of Emperor Hirohito of Japan in 1989 until his own death in 2016, and is the third longest verified reigning monarch in history after King Louis XIV and Queen Elizabeth II, reigning for 70 years and 126 days!
