Yes well people who have a nice sense of humour and laugh at the late Bob's lines don't care about your headphone world that you no doubt live in or your nasty and critical remarks to try and ruin the good atmosphere
On Christmas Day, in December of 1971, I saw Bob Hope at Long Binh, Vietnam put on a show for the troops. I was probably my best day while serving there.
(Thanks for the memory); lady asks Bob and man with a cane to remove a bat that flew into her flat. They enter the flat. Man with cane; "so where's this bat?" Lady; "I don't know." Man with cane to Bob; Ok, where would you hide if you were a bat? Bob Hope; "You're thinking of a horse!" 😂😂😂❤🤣🤣🫡
Norm Macdonald brought me here. Now I see why he thought Bob Hope and Richard Pryor were the two pinnacles of this form of art. R.I.P. you 3 legends- and grazie Mr DiFlorio for the lovely upload.
It's frustrating to realize that this would be legitimately hilarious if I knew wtf any of those shows were about. Dude's stage presence and delivery is 100%, as one should expect from the man that developed and popularized stand up comedy in the USA.
Bob Hope and Phyllis Diller revolutionized stand up. They took it from something you did when your philosophy degree didn't pan out to a legitimate career path. Neither had to be raunchy to be funny, but both were fairly risqué in live club sets that weren't Televised and so didn't have to get approved by television censors.

@jlizano20 (Road to Hong-Kong) Hope, Crosby and a woman land on another planet on their 🚀. They start fighting over who gets the woman. Woman shouts; "Surely there must be SOME solution to this!" Crosby; "tell ya what, We'll both have her, I'll have her Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays." Bob Hope; "and I'll have her Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays." Woman; "and what about Sundays?" Bob Hope; "On Sundays we rest." 🤣🫡
@jlizano20 Bob Hope; I don't know why people have such a problem with earthquakes, I just jump on a helicopter and say follow that city!🤣. Another time I just stayed in bed for a few days and ended up with 3 different postcodes!😂🫡

Many people don't realize it that he was the greatest entertainer who ever lived, not Michael Jackson or anyone else. Bob Hope is truly the greatest entertainer who ever lived.

Luckily Bonanza didn't get cancelled. Hop Sing was so happy he invited Mao to the Ponderosa. They're going to visit the Great Barbed Wire Fence of Nevada. It runs for miles. Now if only Hoss would. I won't say he's a little overweight but in the last pie-eating contest he brought along a dozen Easy-Bake Ovens. Hoss isn't worried, though. If Bonanza gets cancelled he plans to become a professional magician. He's really talented, too. Hoss is the only magician I know who can pull a live rabbit out of a hat & then cook it for supper. But I wanna tell ya......
Being a Brit, a lot of the gags were lost on me. But Bob Hope was a great comic. He had that priceless quality calling presence. And he was the quintessential professional. He reminded here a little (actually quite a lot) of that other great comic, Jack Benny, with his pauses after each gag, and that almost plaintive wandering look around at the audience. (I did at least know what SST stood for, having once read an excellent history of the Boeing corporation.)
@@martm216 Just FYI - His birth name was Leslie Townes Hope (though there are legal documents that also give his name as Lester Townes Hope) and he was born in Eltham in the County of Greater London. Something that impressed me about him was that after he had "made it big" he didn't forget the friends he'd made back in his days of vaudeville. I've a friend whose great uncle had known him before he became famous and he used to get a Christmas card from Bob Hope every year, and they'd get together when Hope was in the area.
Not to mention Jackie Gleason, who was also cancelled then. All of these were CBS shows. "Relevance" was the thing back then, although the "relevant" shows that replaced the ones that replaced the variety shows and rural comedies tended not to last very long, and are now largely forgotten.
Wow, I can't believe some of the nasty ignorant comments about this comic genius. I am a 1980s person and love Bob Hope lines and films. He was smart 😂❤
I'll be honest, I always thought Bob Hope sucked. I wanted to prove myself right I searched Bob Hope stand-up and during this I was really laughing hard. His delivery and wit are hilarious. "With all the shows being cancelled, Hogan's Heroes were let go when they dug through the escape tunnel and found themselves in the unemployment line". He says it so dry, its hilarious. I love this style of Hope, I think I had a bad impression from just dreadful specials he did sometimes.
He hung on too long and went downhill in later years, but was very funny in movies from the late '30s to the late '50s, especially the Road movies with Bing Crosby.
@Jeepman89 Jokes are as much, if not more so, about delivery and cadence. So while Hope did have writers, the jokes worked because he was a skilled stand up comedian. Even the best jokes would fail if the delivery is bad.
HEY MISTER MISTER MISTER.....WILL YOU PLEASE TELL THE GREAT IM SORRY IM COMING TO FIND MY GPA NOW. PLEASE WHOOP MY ARSE AFTER I GET THERE. THANKYA MISTER. BE SAFE PLEASE. 💝💃
Fred Silverman detested the rural shows because of the Demographics. However, the shows that replaced them were equally big hits: "All in the Family," Quinn Martin Detective Shows, etc.
John Johnson; And it wasn't two years later that "The Waltons" premiered and became a hit, thereby proving that the TV audience that lives between the East Cost and the West Coast actually does make a big contribution to the bank accounts of networks and sponsors, much to their chagrin.
Jesus Christ. Once I read that stand up is an art that ages terribly. It is true. This video is impossible to laugh at and this guy is supposed to the be the best of his time
Rodney Dangerfield would completely DESTROY Bob Hope in a head to head joke telling contest. In terms of stand up comedy, Bob Hope was not even worthy enough to tie the brilliant Rodney Dangerfields shoelaces if they both waited backstage before they are about to go on and perform one after the other. Bob Hope was an excellent actor, singer and dancer. A great entertainer in his own right. But he was simply the worst comic ever to walk into a TV studio. The troops just wanted to escape from their problems so they laughed at anything that he did just as a way of taking their minds of war. Like I said, Rodney Dangerfield would completely DESTROY Bob Hope in a head to head joke telling contest.
@@adf3comcast1 Anthony I just read your comment - please dont dig Bobs hole any deeper for him pal. He was a great singer, actor and dancer. Nothing more. Let's leave it at that. Talented - YES. Naturally Gifted Comic - NO. George Carlin and Rodney Dangerfield were naturally gifted comics. Its simply BLASPHEMY to use the terms "naturally gifted" and "comic" in the same sentence when speaking of Bob. But He was a masterful entertainer in his own field. Everyone acknowledges that.
