Only the lovely Dinah could navigate through these murky conversations & pull it all together with that unbelievable Poise, voice and charm like no other. Her sincerity and talent made her TV talk show iconic. Old Hollywood couldn't wait to be an honored guest on her show cuz she always treated them with the dignity & the respect they deserved.
This is an example of what Gorgeous ,Beautiful ,Class ,Superb Talent, Genuine laughter is. AWESOME stuff. I do not watch TV or listen to music today. Now they are pure vulgar no talent foul mouth garbage. Thank goodness for Mr. Eichler + RU-vid.
I'm a big Bob Hope fan. All of his leading ladies are lovely. But the one I'm most delighted to see is Rhonda Fleming. I recall her from the Lustre Cream shampoo commercials. I was just a kid, but I thought she was the most beautiful lady in Hollywood. Thanks for the memory.
By my reckoning Bob was just 74 when this program aired. Amazingly he would live to the ripe old age of 100. He died in 2003. It's great to hear him when he is not reading off cue cards. It's obvious he still had his wits about him at this time.
@@margerykirner5604 You have to remember that people "in the business" knew all about looking their best, even on their worst days. My brother is in broadcast news (on camera job) and even in his business they use products to look younger, fresher, etc.
this show was from April 15, 1977. Bob Hope born May 29, 1903 was 74 (died July 27, 2003 at age 100) Lucille Ball born August 9, 1911 was 65 (died April 26, 1989 at age 77) Dorothy Lamour born December 10, 1914 was 62 (died September 22, 1996 at age 81) Dinah Shore born February 29, 1916 was 61 (died February 24, 1994 at age 77) Jane Russell born June 21, 1921 was 56 (died February 28, 2011 at age 89) Rhonda Fleming born August 10, 1923 was 53 (died October 14, 2020 at age 97) Rosemary Clooney born May 23, 1928 was 51 (died June 29, 2002 at age 74) Bob Hope outlived all of them except Jane Russell and Rhonda Fleming!
From another Aussie, in the early 1980s The Mike Walsh show had two whole shows with various hollywood stars of the golden era. I was late for a maths exam as it was hard to stop watching. I hope there is someone who has a copy.
If you want to see the most beautiful gal rent "Till the Clouds Come in" and you will see Dinah Shore looking beautiful. She looks like she has a 17" waist. A real live doll.
This show showcases the best aspect of Hope's humor: his self-deprecation. If you look at the comedies he did around 1940, where he plays the loveable coward, you'll see where Woody Allen got the inspiration for the nebbish character he played in his early comedic films.
I like the ladies, Bob Hope is another story. I went to see his show when I was in Korea, if we didn't laugh at his jokes he would make faces at us. He was so bitter towards us, all that footage had to be cut from the program they showed on TV. At one point we actually boo'd him...never cared for him after that!
We were shocked as well! He would get this sneer on his face and look at us like we were dirt. Maybe he was having a bad day, who knows....and I really don't care. Most likely all his good deeds were for money, power, or whatever floated his boat!
Today, it’s a race to see which freak show they put on first!! So sad!!!! Look at what’s happening with country music! It’s nothing but a half clothed, freak show!!!
Ho. Ly. Shit. This is such an important snapshot of the zeitgeist. The gay and lesbian subtext, cthe Hollywood history, the fashions hunnnny. All of it
@@johnlorenzen4633Wonderful comment; wonderful Dinah. I grew up in the South, and Dinah really really resonated with us because of her charm and her ability to approach her guests with a real-life sensibility, rather than a kind of fake Hollywood interview style. She was a real lady, a real, honest person…and a damn fine interviewer. Thank you for your kind & insightful comment. We miss you so much, Dinah.
