This is the best and most heartfelt, funny, down to earth and honest review I have watched about the biopic. The opening made me laugh so much. You raise a number of thought provoking and pertinent points about it which most of the newspaper reviews failed to mention. I like the fact that you highlihgted the culture significance of it. In my opinion you have done a better job in addressing the successes and flaws in it. Thank you

My dad passed away two years ago at the age of 56. He looked up to bob Marley he would have loved to watch this movie. He himself was a musician dedicated to peace and love he had thousands of friends and followers he made a friend with every new face he met. He based half his life on this great man. I’m very excited to watch this movie I’ve always wanted to get his message out. This movie makes me feel good in a way.

11:19 I absolutely agree! That was my main gripe with the film is that they didn’t really show his influence and delve deeper in the political stakes and why he was so important. They definitely needed another 20 mins at least.

I agree as well but my hopes are that the film kinda of gives a little more insight into things that were actually happening and being said during some of the critical moments in the documentary. For example, the part when he got shot and leading up to the show. The doc tells us what was kinda going on and mentions the conversations being had during that time but getting to see those moments depicted in a scene and watching how it actually played out should be pretty initiating.. imo. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I've seen the film and my first thought is that it's full of references. But if you don't know Bob Marley well, then you might miss some important characters or things from his biography that are there. However sometimes not clearly mentioned! It's true that the young Bob Marley really looks like him. As for the rest, I'm not sure I recognize the Bob Marley I love. I saw the film in French, and I don't know if that detracts from his global impact. But in this case, I find that Tuff Gong's rough edge doesn't come through at all! They look like friendly hippies who smoke. Of course, they have the Rasta faith, but if you don't know anything about it, you're a bit lost when you see the film! My favorite scene is in London when Bob went to a Punk Concert and was placed in Police custody aftewards! What I did appreciate was the fact that the song lyrics were transcribed in French. For those who don't understand! I thought the scenes in Jamaica were pretty good, and I have no problems at all with the actors. I do regret, however, that even during the good scenes at the concerts scenes, there's Bob Marley's voice, but these are re-recordings for the film (except for the live version of No Woman No Cry in London, which is the original track). There are some nice moments that would have deserved to be explored further! For example, Bob Marley at jet-set parties etc. The only time I thought I recognized Marley was when he's arguing with his wife Rita. There are also some anachrosinms slipped into the film which are chronologically wrong, but which happened in Bob Marley's life... I found the scene where the gunmen who shot Bob Marley comes to be absolved and forgiven by Bob Marley directly at his home ridiculous! And also when Bob rides a horse as a child with Selassie, it's just something you've seen over and over again in biopics like "Ray", with the childhood memories, etc.... I understand those who say it looks like a TV movie. But I was moved many times, and wanted to cry ... Not because of the film itself. But because I was thinking of Bob Marley ... Finally, I'm a musician, and the work involved in composing music seems just like simple a bit of fun between friends ... it doesn't really convey the impact of Bob and the Wailers, even if it's very well filmed! Secondly, I find the fact that so many scenes have been cut, especially those with Cindy Breakspeare, who lived next door to Bob in England .... It's a scandal! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DOV9hPavU6E.htmlfeature=shared I don’t understand why these songs aren’t in the movie?! It’s fire ! I'm no director, but this film is a little too happy for me. We understand the historical context etc. But frankly, the figure of Bob and his colleagues is far more complex than the approximate 1 hour 45 minutes of the film. Finally, I'm white. And I think this is "a movie for white people (Don’t get me wrong, I’m just saying it’s made by Jamaicans, however as usual it’s a typical Hollywood movie "! Jamaicans, don't complain too much. Because there are plenty of Jamaicans in the film,and the film will benefit the island economically and culturally (at least I hope so) ! I enjoyed the movie I don’t know if you can feel it in my review … However, you got to know Bob Marley a lot! Otherwise, it’s not very coherent, and it looks like a basic biopic … As we don’t learn about Marley much as a person … I don’t understand why we see some scenes in the trailers and not in the movie! The editing is rushed and the story is too clean. (Just like in Bohemian Rhapsody) …. Oliver Stone or Martin Scorsese were supposed to make the movie : Man, it could have been a masterpiece ! I don’t blame the family …. However you can clearly see their agenda …. Eventually the main actor seems so genuine when he talks about Marley, I’m sure he did his best ! I’m hoping for an extended version : The characters who are there doesn’t add value to Bob in the movie except for his wife and his children. Eventually, we don’t see his personal breakthrough. And now i'll try to watch it again in English when the Bluray 4K will be out or something. 🙂 Another interesting review here: www.markreviewsmovies.com/reviews/B/bobmarley-onelove.htm #OneLoveMovie #onelove #BobMarley

As a Jamaican, I cant wait to see this film!! People often forget that Jamaica is just a small island Caribbean (approx. 3 mil. population) because the country has had a HUGE global impact! Personally, I have no problem with a non Jamaican portraying Bob Marley as long as their intentions are good. I have heard interviews with Kingsley and it seems like he truly respected the legend of Bob Marley and took the time to get it right. The family was heavily involved in the production of the movie and they hand-picked him so if they don't have a problem, we shouldn't either. hopefully this movie does well so we can have more caribbean inspired films! Love the video! ❤💛💚 In other news... Where did you get your sweatshirt?

There is actually a 4th Camp. Those of us who grew up with his music and the evolution of it, and are aware of aspects of his journey and his beliefs. The movie, for what it was INTENDED to be was amazing. It deliberately only looks at 2 years of his life, aside from occasional flashbacks. The family's intent was to show the human aspect of Bob mainly. We can research him as a superstar anywhere. However this movie exposes corners of his personal journey. One such example is the fact is, he never replaced Rita because their connection. Though not perfect, their relationship ran deep. There is enough focus on his extramarital affairs and children out their for public consumption, but not enough about Rita and Bob's actual connection. I truly loved the movie as a Caribbean person. I encourage everyone to give it a chance and enter into the experience appreciating what the actual intention of the film was.
@islandQueen246

This comment. 👏🏾👏🏾 I’m a Caribbean woman and I loved it. It was such a palpable experience to watch. I’m with you on the intent of the film - I think that’s what some people are really missing, and as such, the movie seemingly doesn’t land well for them. Understanding the intent behind the film paired with the execution - 10/10.

I was so disappointed by this film that I saw yesterday in France. No soul, no transcendence. They just used Bob's name in vain to make a quick buck. Ziggy Marley has definitely no talent. They were supposed to be talking about a radical artist, a militant, a rebel, a genius... You don't see that in the film. We don't get into the complexity of the man he must have been, everything is smooth and doesn't have the accent of truth. And we certainly don't see how the CIA murdered Bob by offering him poisoned sneakers! The trailer has more emotion than the whole movie! They mustn't get away with taking the public for fools and believing they can make money so easily. They're hiding the whole truth about Bob!
@mstyah

@truthseeker1789
@truthseeker1789 7 месяцев назад
@@mstyah It’s not even a 2h film. That's because 1h30 was enough to finish the job, i.e. to kill the myth and the anti-system message after having physically killed Bob. Everything he really stood for has been diluted in this insipid stuff produced by Jewlywood.Babylon finally got rid of this troublesome man. His family, and Ziggy in particular, are sellouts.

Bob Marley’s British dad never raised him. He didnt even know the guy and a lot of people didnt even know he was biracial. Bob Marley was as Jamaican as they come. So what you are saying holds no weight. I am not Jamaican but I do get why they feel slighted by the actor playing the Great Bob Marley, jamaican icon!
@TaitsTake
@TaitsTake 7 месяцев назад
His dad may not have raised him but he definitely knew him. I was half kidding of course he doesn’t identify as British but this is Hollywood. If a non-Jamaican earns the part he earns the part, it happens every day. Does the studio want to sacrifice the acting for the accent? It’s a business.

Likkle but we tallawah! The intro was so funny! The accent was not bad at all lol. I have mixed feelings about the film. I haven't watched it just yet so I don't have a true opinion but I've heard that its a bit surface level - more about spreading the feel-good stuff and preserving his reputation rather than telling the raw story (good and bad).

Boss, the reason he is not a hero is a time and place thing. You see when I was growing up in Jamaica most adults, specifically the upper crust of Jamaica called him “that dutty Rastaman” and that upper crust now sucking on the Marley milk still have a hard time making that so called “Dutty Rastaman” a hero. I feel im in group 2 of your one love audience classification too, however i did struggle to get over him not being Jamaican. I was happy he was at least carribean. Disagree his accent was better than tge actress playing Rita. Nice to learn her parents are Jamaican, so makes sense. A lot of people are PISSED especially we Jamaicans. They should have gotten a Jamaican to play Bob! Getting Foreigners to play Rita & Cindy is ok because they are not Jamaicans but they should have gotten a Rastafarian woman to play Rita!

Watch the movie twice. The actors did very well . Oscar nomination worthy! Good review but would have given it 4 stars! That accent though, you could have played Bob 😁 Bob was and is the GOAT! He needs to be a hero. We definatelynedd more main stream Caribbean stories

Once again Tait - this was a fantastic review , funny so funny when you broke out the pepper seed 😂😂😂😂 I think the movie could have been fuller - I don’t mind the fact that they spent time on the making of the film Exodus ( Time magazine named it the number 1 most important album of all time ) but I felt that the movie skimmed past two many things at time and I was like ooh slow down a bit - I appreciated the Rasta religion be shared but some folks left the theater not understanding that was Halle Salesi - I am in camp 2 I know some Bob Marley facts but I didn’t know that Rita was shot that night - so I did learn something’s but should have been longer . Ben Kingsley is a wonderful actor - he was great in one night in Miami - playing Malcolm X he made the role his own because DenZel is the Good standard But my criticism of the film is that it needed to have some more depth Some more needed to be explored . I loved Rita costumes it made me want to look up Rasta women fashions on Pinterest and look at vintage looks . I would recommend folks see it . But to be honest it could be streamed too Keep the reviews coming through Perhaps on your channel you can do a live review of movies with folks or tv shows because you are funny Aiight peace

To make Bob Marley a national hero will be base on popularity and influence that's not the reason WHY the other heroes were choosen.. Yes Bob Marley was deeply socially conscious, his music was Afrocentric so he will always be valued, but not a national hero neither would i agree with Babados except it was a tourism gimmick.

2 year time frame doesn't seem anywhere near enough to cover the marley story. No perry, no tosh, no bunny? Actor looks and sounds nothing like bob.. Is there a mention of Jim brown and the c.i.a.? I hvnt seen it yet. Most people seem to enjoy it. Is it good? Or simply a nice brush over bob marleys most popular era with nice music?

Speaking to the struggles of being biracial... I heard that in his youth, Bob asked Rita to put shoe polish on his hair, so that he would look more "African." So yes, Bob did get hit with the colorism from his own people.

Bob Marley fulfilled the embodiment of Asar (Osiris) and Harpocrates (From whence the story of Jesus was grated). In fact, Michael Jackson solo career hit internationally after Bob's passing when he drop the "Thirller Album" in late 1982. Before then Marley made the night’s news and was the front-page story wherever he went around the world. Voted the “hottest band in music” by Rolling Stone magazine in 1979, the Wailers broke all attendance records set by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in Europe in 1980. Bob also brought together Italy's largest ever concert audience of over 120k people - outdrawing the Pope, who was also in town a week earlier, by about 40k people - to the San Siro Stadium in Milan during the Uprising tour. Marley was simply MJ before MJ (in a short period of time)

That was the same reaction when Jlo played Selena but the movie was a success. I am Jamaican and I was initially mortified that the Actor was not Jamaican but I decided to put that behind me and support my Culture. The backup singers are Jamaican Lashana has Jamaican roots. I also understand they would want to hire Famous Actors to make it more marketable. Bob Marley has a lot of Caucasian fans and a lot o fans in Britain.

I saw the movie last night and was kinda disappointed. I so-so-SOOOO badly wanted it to be good. Tait, you articulated (more gooder than I could) my exact feelings about the movie really well. I concur with your thoughts and felt that it did not really find an effective way to show how Bob Marley was able to spread peace and love... (there are times when I listen to his lyrics and actually get choked up and think--"Yes, that is how we should all be!!" ) They also didn't quite capture the magic of how his larger-than-life persona was able to use his beguiling charms and his life view to make the average non-Jamacian put Reggae on their listening radar. The movie does portray the crowds getting larger and larger until stadiums are filled, but a scene where an "average Joe", is captured by the music on a personal level would have been cool. (I remember, turning my nose to his music when I first was introduced, but then a friend was persistent in talking about Marley and played his songs a lot. Then it clicked---and soon I was growing out dreadlocks, smoking ganja, and running from the sheriff's posse (*kidding, but I did loves me my Legend album--as a first step into his music). Bob Marley was able to make us all fall in love with the music, and his country. He is one in a handful of artists who got people to really think about ideas of fairness for all, and equality for all. This theme was only gently touched-on in the movie and not fully captured as I so-so-so badly had hoped for. You shared that the "Pacing was off"--It was less than 2 hours long, and yet I found myself checking my watch to see how much longer it was going to be before my wife and I could go home. With some movies, I get so caught up, that the time passes and I am almost in disbelief when I check my watch when the final credits finish and 2.5 hours or more have passed. (*We also had a ton of people around us in the theatre who were using phones, talking loudly about how they couldn't understand the accent, or how their sister was having an operation next week (rude, right?) and singing along (forgivable, and actually I kinda like when people do this). One guy in front kept standing up and stretching, and a group behind us apparently was focused on finding ways to make unusual noises with their snack treats...so maybe I was too distracted and couldn't escape into the magic that movies can sometimes transport us to). You are hilarious and insightful. I just stumbled upon your work here with this posting, but you can be sure I will be back to listen a little more to see what else you might "gift" us with in regards to your thoughts about cinema. Keep up the good work, mon. (sorry for mini-cultural appropriation)
