Bob Newhart is now 90 years old. I guess he was about 85 when they taped these? There's not even a nick in the blade of his razor-sharp wit. Who can still be this amazing this late in life?
I was at a bad point in my life -- undiagnosed diabetes, actually no big deal, unless untreated -- and Craig, every night, made life worth living and gave me something to look forward to. The show was always a silly, f*ck it ROMP, but in the interviews, like with Newhart, he had an intuitive skill for finding the best in his guests and drawing it out -- simply by making them feel as at ease as the audience at home. Never saw him "muff" one. Greatness, Craig. Thanks.
I love this guy, and it hurts to see him getting so old--and this was five years ago. Great sense of humor and comic delivery. Seems to be a genuinely nice man.
I remember Bob talking about the 'executives' trying to fix his show: "Bob, could you talk a little faster - those pauses slow things down" & "we've decided to add a kid to the show" to which Bob replied "What a wonderful idea - who are you going to get to play Bob". Bob knew his humor, knew what was funny, and knew what he wanted. I grew up listening to him on the radio (plug: CKCK/CK62 from out of Regina); I had insomnia and CK62 had a 2 hour comedy show from like 1:00am to 3:00am. Thanks for the memories.
@GENERAL DISARRAY'S BOSS 83 Ambien which is now a generic. All the doctors say that using it for more than a couple months is bad for you - bullshit, not sleeping for years is BAD for you. I have been using Ambien for almost 30 years - any personality issues are mine and do not belong to the drug.
Craig isn't intimidated by Bob. They are both having a great time and you can tell Bob is impressed with Craig and sees him as a comedy equal. Very different styles but their humor still meshes.
I’m Larry. This is my brother, Darryl, and this is my other brother, Darryl. Bob must’ve written that into the show. He’s a true comedy genius. Everything he says cracks me up!
Look how in tune they are with the jokes, the subtlety of Craig's little "looks", like when Bob said, "I never thought I'd meet a Queen..." It's great to see!!
I had a run in with Mr Newhart, back in 1971 or 72. LA Sports Arena Car Show. My wife and I were looking at a Black Lamborghini Miura, by her side was none other than Bob Newhart. He had the number #1 on TV and no one recognized him but me. He looked at me with, oh no eyes aNd placed a Finger over his lips pleading not to say anything. I lip-synced ok. He did it back , thank you. We just stood there looking the Black Lamborghini. As he walked way still not being recognized I told my wife.
Bob always reminded me of that one teacher you had in high school who could drone on for a few minutes until the class fell into a stupor, then would just, out of the blue, say the weirdest, funniest thing you had ever heard...It would go over the heads of most people. but if you were lucky enough to catch it, you would never forget it, and you would never really look at life in the same way again...
Interesting. Seeing Bob Newhart always reminds me of one of my high school English teachers. They look so much alike, especially when Bob puts on his cardigan in the Bob Newhart Show.
I think I would have enjoyed school more if Bob Newhart had been my teacher. Unfortunately, I had more of the Ben Stein- Ferris Bueller's Day Off version (😩😝😒).
The amazing thing about Bob is that if not for a quirk of fate, he would have spent his life as an accountant in Chicago. He just happened to know a guy from college who got into the radio business and when the guy was looking for guest for his show he recalled that Bob was always funny in school. So he invited Bob on his Chicago radio show and the rest is his as they say.
Craig Ferguson is the best talk show I've ever seen...He's so darn funny I just wished He would still be on...but these replays are the next best thing...wherever He is I know Hes making people laugh!!! He's a naturally funny man!!!
My daughter avised me to watch a couple of modern day comedians gave me the names and 10 minutes in I had not smiled. I sit here listening to these 2 and am neaar crying with laughter.
I never really cared so much for Bobs shows, but watching these interviews with Craig has given me a whole new appreciation for Bob Newhart! He really is funny, fast with the wit, and personable.
Only Bob Newhart could tell a tell show host I had a cat once with a straight face and have an entire audience laugh at it.. He's still one of the best ever, Meow - RIP.
Nope. A friend who was a huge fan got tickets to see him live in Toronto around 1988 and she'd barely talk about it the next day. She said he was foul mouthed and had a nasty temperament that wasn't part of the show. He just came across as a total 180 to the sitcoms she watched all the time. This wasn't the Bob Newhart of his TV shows and she was really upset, more than annoyed. She never watched another Newhart show after that.
Well...sometimes a little politics...but not the trashing and outright lying that goes on today. Still, Ferguson was the best late night show of all that were on at the time. All the others were way too political, like they were working for the Dems. You go to a show like this to be entertained, not to get lectured on PC/SJW Bull Shit!!
Old Yeller's Channel Lighten up, Francis. Reality doesn’t comport to your reactionary nonsense. You think Craig would be giving Trump or anyone on the right a moments rest if he was still on the air? He’d be ripping the GOP a new asshole every chance he got.
I went back and watched all his shows from 2005 to his final - I was hiding from the new normal. Then I found the British show QI and watched all 15 years of the their shows.
@@oldyellerschannel4676 make fun of the president okay, but "omg cry with me during this segment and then cheer when I suggest that you vote for [this person]" isn't really okay. Which is why I quit watching those shows. Even John Oliver, since the guys that hire him donated over 20 million to Hillary, it's too biased. Silly jokes is the way to go, people pretend to be smart or interesting, and Craig was the last interesting host.
17:28 - "Rid the world of skeet." This is the funniest stuff I've seen in ages. Ferguson gives plenty of space for Newhart's persona to be front and center and the humor flows naturally. Ferguson was a terrific host who could shift gears depending on the guest; with Newhart he's relaxed, but then with Don Rickles he's quicker and more aggressive.
He was the MASTER of that bit. Perfect timing, the way he allows the audience to create the other side of the conversation, that stutter that implies so much. Pure gold!
I can’t remember who but decades ago a talk show host - probably Carson - asked him about his stammer and Bob gave the perfect dry reply “I stammer?” Brought the place down.
the finally of the NEWHART show was the best ending ever. when he woke up in bed next to Suzanne Pleshette, and the new show was all just a dream of his character from the original Bob Newhart show I died laughing. when he was don't telling his wife about the dream and she asked if he was married in the dream and he said yes and she asked if it was to her and bob paused, and said, no I was married to a blond.......funniest TV ever.
Agreed. I can’t think about Newhart without remembering that scene. It was hilarious. I’m sure it stands alone as funny. But, to really appreciate the impact of the final Newhart episode on those of us watching it at the time you need to know why it was so funny, and why it was so widely considered genius. Clue: connection between Newhart finale & Bobby’s return to the TV show Dallas after two years dead. In this case case you really DID have to be there!!” 🤣😲😂!! Thank you for years of laughs Bob Newhart!
@@joe-vz6hx Just once I wish some snide jackass like yourself would have the guts to say something like this to my face, preferably over something of greater importance.
@@joe-vz6hx Seriously... there was no need for a comment like this. What drives you to put others down in this way? Does it make you feel good about yourself?
Newhart and Rick les, along with Joan Rivers were my absolute favorites. They were so stinking funny. I remember when he hosted SNL in the early 90s and its when that song "you gotta be strong, you gotta be wiser" was out by Des'Ree. She told him "you gotta be strong Bob." He was as dry as could be and said; "I dont 'gotta be' nothing." I laughed my butt off.
I would've loved to see Dean Martin on this show. Am sure Craig and him would have a blast! Saw some Bob Newhart sketches. very nice man. i miss the oldtimers =) The last bit is awesome
