Well I have had a little practice. At one time I had this painting so well practiced I could reproduce it well under 20 mins. Folk used to think it was some sort of magic act. They would come up and touch the canvas just to see if it was really wet and I wasn't just wiping off the black to reveal a finished painting. Lots of painty finger prints on my canvas! Give this a go. With fewer colours you can concentrate on the shape and form. Best wishes - Paul 😃😎

I appreciate the Sunday upload! None of the other artists I follow post on Sundays so 👏👏👏 Lovely seascape. I'm tempted to take on this challenge. "I paint like I don't care" should be my new motto and keep me from fussing too long over every detail!
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Год назад
Hi Diane - go on give it a try. You'll be amazed at how much you can do. Maybe set yourself 5 mins for each element i.e. sky then setting out the wave etc. You get the idea. Have a timer and stop between each section to think about the next bit. This takes the pressure off doing it in one go. Now what shall I do for another speed painting? Any ideas? - Have a great week. 😍😎

I knew someone who had a program in Australia called "Art Studio" . He had to do a painting in 22 mins. The 8mins spare was for adverts. It's not an ezy thing to do a work in so short a time. His "out" was just like Ross. He did his painting before-hand, hung in off camera and copied it as best he could in the allotted time. Still not an ezy thing to do. Bravo for a fine painting!

I love these nighttime seascapes. Great work, again! I would love to see a video dedicated exclusively to the angles/perspectives /geometry of wave motions, even if it were done in pencil! I know that might be a bit dry (no pun intended), but extremely useful. Your videos always provide this type of info during the course of the paintings at some point anyway, but I'd love to see a mini video workshop totally dedicated to the topic. Happy painting 🎨

I can't paint unless I get my fingers in there some where. Love seascapes too. Pay attention to the initial shape and try not to loose the form as you paint. Waves have a tendancy to get a little wild and out of proportion so take your time - but have fun!😊

3:24 --lol (there’s nothing worse than rushing through your painting…,) The color is nice- the color you mixed for the night sky in your lighthouse was Luvly as well-- I wonder what the mountain mix tubed color would appear like on a black canvas-- The mountain mix (tubes) color makes nice skies- Kevin’s old video- Large Snowy Mountains- he used for that painting mountain mix- Makes beautiful colored clouds- and shadows-
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Год назад
I've found the premixed Bob Rodd Mountain colour to be quite a blue colour. It may not be too different from the colour I used. But I'm old school Bob Ross and like to make my own mountain mix 💛

3:56 have you seen paint with Josh- I just found him recently- he uses a nylon filbert ( and depending on size of moon- different sized filbert is used) to twirl it- He’s come a long way- from older videos and his black canvases sells like hot cakes-- it’s the color that appears on black canvas that’s so captivating-- I just watch him for his clouds -- he creates beautiful clouds so easy!!
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Год назад
I've watched a few of Josh's videos. He's full of energy and making a big impact with his paintings. 😀😎
@Milania717
@Milania717 Год назад
14:39 good advice- many painters also make the curved lines too sharp- and appears like a triangle-- I’ve been trying to tell Josh about his waves-- lol - but he doesn’t like advice- He also does something weird with the shape and bends the shapes- looking like the water is a triangle flow- and water doesn’t bend-- So your advice here is important and good tip-- soft edges- Don’t know why- but right sided waves are not easy for me-
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Год назад
I think we each have a tendancy to favour a side. From experience, right handed folk favour right side waves, right side highlights on a mountain etc. The opposite for left handed folk. Are you left handed or ambidexerious?

Its funny, I had a feeling I knew which seascape this was before you got started, and I wasn't disappointed! I've technically painted this one once following the Bob Ross tutorial (and we know how fast he goes!) and the second version I did was more loosely inspired (aka no palm tree, and a big rock instead of a small one). Seeing your version makes me want to take another crack at it! I'm sure it will take longer than 20 minutes, but if i could do it in 40 I'd say that would do the trick.
@PaulRansonArt

So pleased to hear your inspired to paint this again. I've painted seascapes for years and even painted the same ones multiple times. Each has a subtitle difference. Best of all I can learn new ways and ideas with each one I try. I guess having a familiar scene gives one more freedon to experiment. Hope you paint this again too - Paul 😍😎

I can't get a horse's saddle out of my mind since seeing this video Paul! Great explanation. LOL I have a question for you. How do you keep your easel so sturdy while you're painting? Have you attached it to something? 🤗
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Год назад
Hi Yovette - sorry about the saddle image. Its been stuck in my mind too. I'm using a Standrite table top easel and have it clamped to my worktop with a G clamp. Its a bit Heath Robinson but it works well. It also lets me tilt the canvas towards me at the top if I get too much glare from the lights. 🥰🥰
@PaintingWithYovette
@PaintingWithYovette Год назад
@@PaulRansonArt Interesting Paul. Thank you. I use the same easel, but I use strong bunby cords. I still get a tiny bit of wobble, but it is hard to eliminate 100% of it. I've been looking for a really sturdy H frame easel. I hear they are much better. 🌹
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Год назад
@@PaintingWithYovette Yes they are much better. Go and test a few out instore because there's some really cheap nasty ones that are only fit for firewood. You might also want to use a few drywall screws in place place of the rubber pads to really hold the canvas tight. If you use canvas board then clamp an old canvas backwards in the easel and use a few blobs of blue tack to hold the board to the strecher bars. 😃😃😘😘
@PaintingWithYovette

Hi, I’m revisiting this tutorial and had a question. Did you cover the whole canvas with a thin layer of liquid clear, then apply to the whole canvas your grey/brown/blue mixture like you would a sky? Does it matter which brush? Did you scrub it in? I’m wanting to use an alizarin crimson/pthalo blue as a back color. Would the Indian yellow and titanium white still work with those colors? Or should I just use the same colors in the tutorial? I’m giving myself 45 minutes… 😉
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 11 месяцев назад
Hi Stephanie - sorry for the slow reply - I've been hard at it on the easel for this Sundays tutorial 😃Yes, I applied a very thin coat of clear over the whole canvas and then a good layer of colour. I used my oldest brushes for this as I scrubbed the colours well in. Check that they are still wet but not runny wet if you know what I mean. Ph. Blue / Alizarin Crimson make a wonderful mauve but go easy on the blue. Its a power colour so I mix to the crimson side. Top tip: Test a little on your palette with a dab of white first - I often make mine too blue even though it looks right 🤔Indian yellow / white combo make a tobacco brown colour when mixing with mauve. Maybe not what you want. Using white on its own to start with is a better option but you can tint it with a little Indian yellow or ochre for a warmer look to your painting. Thats my favourite option so far. Have fun on the challenge. Maybe set you timer for 3 fifteen minuet blasts. Then you have to to reset and start again. Its fun but don't put yourself under too much pressure. 😍😎
