@@pennycarrigan4356 For sure. I think if he had kept down the Bob Seger System road, he would’ve been more recognized among the greats of rock! However, his Silver Bullet road led to a hundred beautiful songs, some huge hits, and a load of money so good on him.
If you havent already figured it out, Bob was raised in Motown, and on that music and actually recoreded for them in his early days, and is close with a lot of the people in and around motown records. One of Detroit's finest.
Jamel, I can't even express how much I enjoy seeing you LOVE all the rock that I grew up on. I cut my teeth on this MUSIC!! It's SO awesome to see you get so much joy out of this music. 60's and the 70's churned out THE BEST music eva imho!! Keep doing what you do and spreading that positivity!! I'll make a request some day and hopefully you'll do it. Much ❤
My Pop was a head roadie for Bob Seger for many, many years; when I was about six I actually got to talk to him on the phone...lol. Highlight of my young life, to be sure... Glad to see you're diving in to Bob Seger's catolog; lot of great tunes. You should definitely check out Feel Like a Number, Sunspot Baby, Katmandu (the live version is awesome), Betty Lou's Comin Out Tonight, just to name a few.
My poor little fingers have typed in "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" so many times & here I just did it again! Bob's first hit!💙 AND "You'll Accompany Me" is great too.💙
You'll Accompany Me. Might be my favorite, but not even sure why it always stands out over all his other great songs. Again, it really makes me think of Kenny Rogers if Kenny went more rock n roll.
This song was written by Willie Hutch in Memphis for Ann Peebles on Hi Records. Ann was a labelmate with Al Green. The great Willie Hutch producer to Al and Ann. Check out the original by Ann Peebles - Come To Mama!! Added bonus those memphis horns. I love both versions!!😂😂😂
Bob Seger obviously was quite taken with Ann Peebles's NC-17 version of "Come to Mama" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O4Fm2b0hd18.html , which she had just recorded for her "Tellin' It" LP (1975), and wanted to include some of that same soul sugar on "Night Moves." Nearly 20 years later, Matraca Berg waxed another steamy cover of "Come to Momma" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BndspeZrHME.html for "The Speed of Grace," her outstanding 1993 "pop" album, which left country radio programming execs totally perplexed.
@@kenperk9854 But Seger must have LOVED the original and that why he did his own version of it. Ken Perk you REALLY don't want it from me on Music and the influence of R&B music and R&B musicians on Rock and Roll.
Thanks Jamel for the Bob Seger marathon! It's been a little tough on me to listen because of the memory of my best friend. About 5 years ago, my closest and best friend for about 25 years or so were actually heading to the Forum in Inglewood to see Seger in concert. My friend started feeling really ill on the way there, we arrived, but headed back home because something was not right with him. Anyway, a day or so later he was hospitalized, a week later he passed away, just some weird infection or something. Losing someone as close as that at a young age still hurts to this day, it was even harder to take than losing my Dad a month or so earlier. Anyway, can you do one more Bob Seger song, "Roll me Away" which was my friend's favorite Seger song? I'll probably cry listening to it, but you have to face these things in life, and he'll know I'm thinking about him. Thanks, and I love what you're doing!
I grew up watching Mom, Dad, aunt's, uncle's playing penny anti poker drinking Bacardi and coke with Bob always playing in the back round! Loved those days. Great reaction
I CAN NOT name one Bob Seger song that is bad. Every song he sings is undeniably a song that touches you in some way. You WILL FEEL something whether it puts a smile on your face, a tear in your eye, gets you to tapping the table to the percussion beat or, off your ass and on your feet or just dancing in your seat. His music transcends time and space. Making you remember and FEEL those special times. Those unforgettable people. That favorite place. Thank you for making me feel my youth.
I love all these Seger songs. Thank you for giving them a listen. My mom's favorite singer was Bob Seger. I spent many Saturday's cleaning house with her listening to Bob Seger in the late 70s/early 80s. She passed away this past August but when I listen to him she's right here with me.
The same guys who played all of Aretha Franklin's great hits. THE Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, are cooking on this one. This kind of funk and soul is what drew Seger to the South. Couldn't get that anywhere else. The guy playing that wild guitar, Pete carr, also played the lead guitar on the sad song, "Main Street." Pete died almost a year ago but his guitar legacy will live on forever. And thanks for the CD you made for me, Pete and rest in peace.
My man this entire album is THE SHIT! I grew up on this & other great music thanks to my momma. Bob Seger is FIRE! I've probably played this vinyl a million times, great cookin' music! Me & Bob have made some mighty mean meals together!
Bob Seger has all white/ gray short hair (as of November 2018 at least ) BUT his voice is still the GREATEST live in concert. Sounds just like his recordings. !!
Your JOY for this incredible talent is the TRUTH!! I used to see Seger for 50 cents when I was an early teen and.....his voice is the best. Every strip club on 8mile played this music!!
Bob doesn't know the meaning of a bad song...everything he plays has soul rock and funk all full of meaning to the core.. Bob is the baddest man in the land PERIOD !!!
Hel-low! We requested it 'cause we like it! There, I said it and I'm not exactly young either..matter of fact I am right at Bob Seger's age. And his music still is the sexiest around, I do mean that (& I'm happily married, too!).
And here it is! THE song that made my momma second guess letting me go see him in concert. She knew how much I loved him and his music..she grilled me on what these lyrics meant to me.
Don't stop yet my buddy so many more great songs by Bob Seger. "fire lake","famous final scene","Betty Lou's getting out tonight","you'll accompany me","we've got tonight","out of Denver" and still more. Even I can't list them all lol ☮️
Thank you SOOOOOO MUCH for reacting to this! ~ Now, I could be wrong, but I recently watched a concert performance of his where he claims this song was actually the product of a Memphis Blues singer that he admired and befriended. Still, I LOVE HIS rendition!!!
I wasn't a huge Seger fan, but since watching Jamel's reactions, I have a new found appreciation. There's something called blue eyed soul, but what category would Seger wind up in??
He's blue collar soul. Helluva voice but his music sounds like what you'd hear being played in any bar. Perfect blend of blue collar and blue eyed soul. That's Bob Seger.
I have to thank you. It feels good to watch younger generations actually enjoy the music I grew up with, not just compare it to newer music. I've been impressed by the variety of groups and styles of music you seem to enjoy. I thought, maybe, you might enjoy RIVER BLINDNESS by the J. Geils band. Don't care about a video, just give it a listen.
@@ChristChickAutistic Freeze Frame,Damn haven't heard that one in forever. What was the one Angel in ??!! Forgot the name I'm having a senior moment Lol
Definitely a great song for slow dancing at Prom which was what we did in 1979 Also we voted this song our Senior theme song that year. We all loved Bob Seger
Bob Seger doesn’t have a bad song! My parents listened to a lot of Bob Seger when I was growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. “You’ll Accompany Me” and “Betty Lou’s getting out tonight” are excellent choices. But you can’t make a bad choice with him, my favorite singer hands down !
Jamel...you have got to do The Babys "Midnight Rendezvous" and "Back on my feet again". Then "Change" by John Waite. I am so glad you are warming to Seger. Being from Detroit...just know he was a staple in our adolescence.
Watching your reactions is like how I felt when I rediscovered Bob Seger a while back. Life and responsibilities were getting the better of me. I hardly even listened to music any more, but one quiet Morning I dusted off some CD's and stuck in Bob Seger. By the time it was done I had the music turned up so loud I'm sure the neighbors could hear it. Each song seemed better than the one before. Bob got the music back in my house.
When I was 10, I used to sneak the transistor under the sheets to listen to TOONS. Could not turn in until hearing Ramblin’ Gambling’s Man. Why it took a decade for people to fully catch on I don’t know. But this was the album that made him a superstar. Great combo of rock and soul. You FEEL that voice in every song.
Bob is "Deeeetroit". The entire band is from the Metro Detroit area and his attitude and persona exude it. I LOVE DETROIT. Thanks Bob for representing.
THANK YOU Jamel. I knew you would find this one to be "BAD ASS". Sorry to see YES "Roundabout" Had a copyright strike. I suggest "Long Distance Run Around" from "Yes"
Glad you came back to Seger...we don’t want you to miss many more great songs. This song had a great funky sound which was perfect for the lyrics and Poppa Bob’s voice.
