Bob Sheppard makes farewell announcement at Final Game of Yankee Stadium. Because of health reasons, Mr. Sheppard could not attend the final game, but tells fans he will see them in 2009 at the New Yankee Stadium.
This voice, this stadium, and the mid to late 90s/early 00s teams will be seared into my brain forever as what the Yankees are. Not to knock the current team or ballpark but it feels like going to a cover band after going to games in the dynasty era. Boy was I lucky to be born when I was those were some great teams to watch.
The Yankees will never be as good as they were back then. The Babe’s pissed his house was replaced with a shopping mall that happens to have a baseball diamond as well.
Damn I am born and raised in Detroit and a die-hard Tiger's fan but I use to love watching games from Yankee stadium just to hear Bob Shepard. Now batting the shortstop #2 Derick Jeter#2. If god has a voice then it's Bob Sheppards voice. I still get goosebumps all these years later. Seriously you have to be really special at your job to have so many fans as P.A. announcer! Any other sports venue nobody knows the P.A. announcers name.
Too bad he never made it to the new stadium. Bob Sheppard truly did have a golden voice like none other. Going to a Yankees home game has never been the same since his retirement (and passing shortly after), and when they moved into the newer ballpark, which will never have the atmosphere the old one did too.
The downfall of the Yankees. Bob Sheppard’s retirement and the closing of Yankee Stadium. The babe is pissed his house was torn down and replaced with a shopping mall with a baseball diamond in the middle.
