The McNear family property at one time included over 3,000 acres in San Rafael, including McNears Beach and China Camp. The family's connection to the Bay Area Chinese community began with China Camp, and later extended to the Chinese Village at the Golden Gate International Exposition on Treasure Island in 1939 and 1940.
The Treasure Island Museum plans to continue our investigation of this history, and preserve the connection between Treasure Island, San Rafael, and the McNear family.
This video features Heidi Kühn, a McNear descendant, her father Bob Thomas, and their family history in Marin County.
