Robert Joseph Bare Sr. (born April 7, 1935) is an American country music singer and songwriter, best known for the songs "Detroit City" and "500 Miles Away from Home". He is the father of Bobby Bare Jr., also a musician.
"Shame on Me" is an American country and western song written by Lawton Williams and William Enis. Bobby Bare recorded it. "Shame on Me" was released on the single RCA Victor 47-8032. Producer was Chet Atkins. The B-side was "Above and Beyond". The song was taken from the LP City of Detroit City and Other Hits by Bobby Bare (RCA Victor LSP 2776).

Having found that Bobby Bare's tongue-in-cheek delivery has always been an attractive trait of his singing, I can confirm that this song is no exception. It has the merits of containing a fine on-key strong vocals, although the lyrics can not be said to to be startling in their conviction. Nonetheless, he is after all trying to apologise for his behaviour! He and the musicians accompanying him have always been regular in their excellence. Consequently, thank you for putting this on RU-vid. Tim.

I might suggest a listen to the version of this song by Chuck Jackson, where conviction is more evident. Not taking anything away from the Bobby Bare (a.k.a. Bill Parsons) version in any way.
