What a voice and a true gentleman. I was blessed to meet him and we spoke about his horses and all his and his beautiful wife's animals. He signed a CD of which I cherish each moment I spent conversing with him. RIP Sir. You are truly missed and ssnding huge hugs to his wife and family.❤
Cant get enough of this performance! Utterly heartbroken over the passing of such a gifted, talented soul. This song will forever transcend, age, generations and genres. Rest in Peace, Bobby.
Truly! Underrated? Truly. With the mood he set here, I just wonder what the population growth has been since this release? Bobby, what on earth will you do for an encore? You can't possibly top this!!!!
Michael Seuss definitely not underrated just so many people know like pac biggie and Boys to men sampled from him to name a few people knew just didn't know he was white lol
I must make a comment here, my boyfriend was a DJ and he played every music in sight from Donna Summer to Michael Mc Donald, but I always loved this song by Mr Cadwell and in 1979 I heard it at a party and I never forgot it. Then I never heard it until this year August of 2023 when You tube posted it because Mr Cadwell had died in March. I am saying 44 years ago until now and it was emotional in 1979 and it's emotional in 2023. Be Blessed.
Wow.Bobby's still sounding good after all of these years. This is a real recording artist. No fluff like so many of these fly by night singers of today need to take note and listen to a real artist. Love this song.
BC just straight killing it as per usual .... Dude the arrangement in the chorus here is just out of bounds man ... More inversions than the weather in L.A.
He has incredible stage presence, doesn't he? He's the type that makes every in the room feel that they've known him personally for years. A great voice that one never gets tired of. I like the way his backing vocalist (Jeannie?), moves. She's enjoying what she does. This particular song will probably always be the Bobby Caldwell composition we remember most.
Wow! I love the way Bobby deconstructed the song and put it back together with gorgeous new chord changes and that great rising line in the backing vocals and keyboard. Symphonic! What a super class Act and a great loss.
I guess a lot of people share my love for this song. I can't put my finger on it, but there is something magical about it. I covered this as a musician and it's an amazing feeling to play this song.
This shows a lot of thought and a lot seasoning. He performs like breathing-and the ascending lines at the end really heighten the power of the emotion and intensity--these lines are absent in early recordings--and have a New York voices kind of harmonic movement and chord voicing. Cool at the beginning---cookin' at the end. Shake and bake!!! Awesome.
absolutely one of the very best songs ever... . amazing that composer/performers can possibly have so little clue of what will be a hit... the studio version will never be surpassed.. about as perfect a studio piece as possible
You can't buy it and you can't learn it. When you got IT, you got it and Cool Uncle Bobby has got hot stuff in spades. One of my most favorite songs ever!! by one of my very favorite artists.
Patrick, Joe Bad here from a few Pittsburgh area Gino gigs. Was excited to recognize you in this video that was spreading around yesterday due to Bobby’s untimely passing. RIP Bobby and man your solos made the tune even better!!!
I just found out about 3 weeks about his song darling open your eyes and I can't believe that gem was hidden from me. I love Bobby Caldwell and his music. His music forever will be in my heart and soul. Sip 🕊
RIP Bobby❤️ Music of my youth! I had no idea @Patricklamb that you played with him! I have enjoyed you for years playing w/ Gino. Love your sound and personality! God Bless.🙏😊❤️
'What you Won't do for Love' is the definition of timeless. Superbly performed, it just makes me smile and reach for my Wife's hand. We can listen to this song performed by Mr. Caldwell 20 years from now and still feel that soulful vibe that reminds you how it feels to be in love for the first time. Just amazing. I want to catch his act in February in Florida.
I like this version. Kinda early Earth Wind and Fire-ish at the end (think "Can't Hide Love" by EWF". I can dig it when the original artist makes changes here and there. They perform hits soo often that they need to spice it up. This is the best "alternate" Vesion I've heard him do.
Ive been singing and dancing to Bobby's songs since the 70.s i love his voice.. what a great singer. RIP BOBBY. Ps ..today.. is the first time i see the face of the man behind this awesome song. You brought us much joy with your voice.. love from Cape Town South Africa. ❤❤❤
This song is wonderful! I just found it again tonight after many years of not hearing it. It is just as moving and fantastic as the first time I heard it!! Soulful, just perfect.
I have loved Bobby since I was 15 when this song came out back then! This whole album was baddd and I still rock Bobby! I know his voice anywhere, and this version I love heard it, I just heard it on Pandora a couple nights ago and it woke me out if my sleep. I came to RU-vid and found it.
Patrick Lamb well said.We do not need any racism, whether it's black racism which I have read below or any kind of racism. Soul music is for everybody, regardless of race.
Oh my…some serious re-harm happening here. Never heard this before. Cool but pretty intense for the early morning CBS audience. RIP to the great Bobby Caldwell.
WOW...even better as he get's older! I have always loved Bobby Caldwell since I was introduced to him in the 80's...great singer and song writer also has one of the most down to earth bands that ever performed. You can tell that they just love music! Keep doing u Bobby!
My most favorite song ever! I remeber going to my local record store to buy it and the owner sold me 4 knock off versions before ordering me the real one. I was so pissed. The message in the lyrics is so true! Bobby please don't change it up during your performance too much. The original is a masterpece and everyone loves to hear the masterpiece as it was originally intended. Thanks for such a great song. Live Long.
Dream to have Mr. Caldwell sings this to me and my future hubby at either engagement party or wedding reception! I have love this song since I was 10 years old.
Bobby Caldwell in concert with last Boney James last tour with him and 30+ piece Band! This Was By Far the Very Best Concert I will Ever be at! So Much Energy by ALL!!!
Oh how I wish he was still touring more than Calif....or that he would please please please come to Nashville,Tn. I give anything to see Bobby at the Ryman Theater.... Have seen him in Arizona & Florida... His music is as fresh today as it was in late 70's-80's & 90's just like Donald Fagen, Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, Cha Khan & many others.... Please expand you're tour areas! 👍💖
I usually don't like it when the original artist, much less anyone else, screws with the original arrangement but I must say this is worthy. One of the greatest records of all time.
Ha. I get it. Imagine how many times he played it the same way and finally said “got to try something different “. Genius Re-imagining of his great song. Bobby C also played bass guitar and sang all backing vocals on the original record.
Thanks for posting this! I recorded it off the TV that day, but I'm so glad to be able to see it on my computer. Bobby is a favorite of my husband, my daughter, and mine! Our goal is to someday travel to the Mainland and see him perform live. It's a pity we never get to see him on TV. This was the first time in over 20 years (saw him on Arsenio Hall ages ago). LOVE YOU BOBBY, you are the BEST!!!!
