This was the BEST ever!! Both of them looked like they were having such a great time!! That Clyde McPhatter was one handsome man and Bobby was nice looking too. Both gone early in age and way too soon. RIP🌹🌹

Bobby Darin's AMAZING grandmother taught him to read and write sheet music, play numerous instruments, sing, stage perform, interact amicably/entertainingly with any audience. Please, as soon as you can, screen the fantastic Kevin Spacey film 'Beyond The Sea' to learn much more, have your heartstrings pulled and be entertained to no end! : ) May both Mr.s Clyde McPhatter and Bobby Darin be resting in PEACE!!! {oxo ]

Just thinking of Clyde McPhatter, he was one of 1st stars to bring RnB into mainstream music. A great talent, but we hear little about him, and he is so worthy of praise.

I met Clyde in 1968, sadly his unchecked diabetes was kicking in. He told us about his Air Force days and working with Sam Cooke and Frankie Lymon. I thought the early Drifters were magic inspired by the Lord

Bobby Darin was a great pianist (there are plenty of live BD on piano vids on YT, look for Splish Splash live medley, more piano than this one....and drums (his first instrument), guitar (his rendition of a Hank Williams song, Hear That Lonesome Whistle, live with guitar, is one of the best Hank Williams song performances ever), and xylophone. On the Darin at the Copa Live CD (wish I had the DVD), his xylophone playing is fantastic. Some other of his great xylophone playing on YT, live video, as well. Because he learned so many instruments as a kid (must have got it in public school, which provided music in those days, at no cost, I know my elementary school did), that's why he was such a great composer. Few people realize how many great songs he composed, music and lyrics. Gotta be a musician to do that. :-)

He was also a fantastic actor. When I saw the movie "Pressure Point", I could tell that the guy who played the Nazi looked familiar. But it was only when I looked it up that I realized that one of the best dramatic performances I've ever seen was from the guy who sang "Mac the Knife".

Clyde is sounding a whole lot like his days with the Drifters and looking like he really is enjoying it.. The man had the most incredible voice in Rock'n'Roll. And to see Bobby Darin accompanying him is truly amazing. It was around this time same time that Bobby released a long forgotten instrumental called "Beachcomber".

I saw a show at the Lewisham Odean around this time (1960) it included Bobby Darin, Clyde McPhatter, Diane Eddy, Emile Ford and the Checkmates, Bob Miller and the Miller men. Some show. I remember that Clyde stood out. I'd never seen anyone sing with such power.

How great is this? How many people aren't even aware of it? Many young people today have no clue how great these two men were. Darin's playing is terrific -- and he played multiple instruments. With music -- Darin was comfortable with anyone. I really, really wish he and Elvis sang a song together -- I would have paid big bucks for that.

I saw Clyde 7 mos. before he was found dead in the Northeast section of the Bronx, when he headlined an Apollo Theater 'oldies show' that included Ruth Brown, the Dells, Frankie Lymon's Teenagers led by Patti Vandross (Luther's younger sister), etc. When Clyde came out to finish up the Saturday nite show while Rueben Phillips Band played the intro to "Treasure of Love", he was so drunk he couldn't remember the words. Ruth took him by the hand and they sang it together as the audience filed out

Posh! A great duo here. I have Clyde as one of the 3 top black singers during 50s and early 60s. The others are Sam Cooke....and third, well haven't decided yet as there are so many, maybe Little Willie John. Clyde's performance was magic and such a great voice. His end is a crying shame, died alone, forgotten by fans, destitued, and an alcoholic in a hotel room (I've read & heard) 13 June, 1972 at age 39.. Seems the fact differ. Acording to Wiki (notorious, in many cases being wrong) it was 1165 East 229 St., Bronx, New York, US. Other sources, same date/year BUT Teaneck, New Jersey, US.
