"Dream Lover" is a song written and recorded by Bobby Darin on March 5, 1959. Darin decided to stretch out some chord changes he found on the piano, and add strings and voices. It was produced by Ahmet Ertegun and Jerry Wexler and engineered by Tom Dowd. The song became a multi-million seller, reaching #2 in US charts for a week and #4 on the R&B charts. "Dream Lover" was kept from the number one spot by "The Battle of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton and went to #1 in UK for four weeks during June and July 1959 respectively. It was released as a single on Atco Records in 1959. In addition to Darin's vocal, the song features Neil Sedaka on piano. A picture sleeve, featuring a portrait of Darin, was also issued for this record. "Splish Splash" is a 1958 song performed and co-written by Bobby Darin. It was written with DJ Murray the K (Murray Kaufman), who bet that Darin couldn't write a song that began with the words, "Splish Splash, I was takin' a bath", as suggested by Murray's mother, Jean Kaufman. The song was credited to Darin and "Jean Murray" (a combination of their names) to avoid any hint of payola. The song helped to give Darin a major boost in his career, reaching No. 3 on the U.S. pop singles chart. It was recorded in a session at New York's Atlantic Studios on the evening of April 10, 1958.

We tend to underrate the singers and musicians of the 50s and 60s, most often seeing them perform on playback. But this here shows us their true caliber. This is just magical, honest, great music.

Holly hell. He’s unbelievable! There’s like 8 different genres going on here and his musicianship is off the scale. He died before I was born but I’ve Always liked him as I adore the 50s… but I didn’t realise he was THAT good.

Great performance. Clearly, Jerry Lee Lewis style and it shows how versatile Bobby Darin (and Jerry Lee too) are. This was a great era of music. And it remains alive to this day.

In the early to mid '70's, there was a HUGE '50's REVIVAL, and you can hear that in the audience reaction when he sings Splish Splash. The '50's Ruled in the '70's: GREASE, HAPPY DAYS, LAVERNE & SHIRLEY. In the ‘70’s, the FIFTIES Nostalgia was palpable. American Graffiti (1973) was made by George Lucas for $777,000 and made a whopping $140 MILLION, making it THE HIGHEST GROSSING FILM IN HISTORY when compared to its production budget. American Graffiti’s success paved the way to STAR WARS, because the studio realized they had a bankable director. FIFTIES NOSTALGIA in the ‘70’s led to the most FUTURISTIC MOVIE: Star Wars. Both American Graffiti and Star Wars featured Harrison Ford.

this may have been from his TV show. in the early seventies he had a show and, on the last episode, he knew it had been cancelled so he did what he wanted. I remember him playing splish splash on the piano and singing. it was an awesome last episode. also, I heard a different story about how he wrote splish splash. what I read was he was with Mae Axton (who also wrote heartbreak hotel) and she told him she had a bunch of phrases she'd jotted on pieces of paper. she may have had them in a file but my recollection is it was a shoe box. she got them out and read them and one was, "Splish-splash, take a bath." she laughed at its ludicrous nature but bobby like it and wrote it into that song--somewhat inspired by Great Balls of Fire (in my opinion). that's it. Long time ago. I remember where I was when I heard he was dead. definitely a performer I loved. bless you, bobby Darin fans.

this may have been from the final episode of "the bobby darin show". Here's what Wikipedia says, "Beginning on January 19, 1973, he starred in a similar show on NBC called The Bobby Darin Show. That show ran for 13 episodes ending on April 27, 1973."

He was absolutely fantastic beyond words, the showmanship of this man! and in this clip hes playing 3 different instruments in an all out rock, go to any of his covers before 1970 and youll find nothing but absolute gold, clementine live is a great example of this.
