Bobby Darin - Simple Song Of Freedom (Live and with a Tux) A mega star in his own right, taken way to soon from this world. He was crossing over from the nightclub circuit into the arena of folk music, where his pacifist views were clearly developing.

I am.62 yrs. old now,(2013), and have sung Bobby Darin's song of freedom for most of my life, almost as a comforting mantra. The song is so incredibly beautiful and with such meaning and always gave warmth to my heart. To honour Bobby , I love singing and playing it on my acoustic guitar for people. God bless Mr. Darrin, and I thank him so much for this touching song. Wish so much that he could have lived longer. His song here sure did give me life.

This song is as relevant today as when Bobby Darin wrote and sang it. Everyone should listen the the words and tell our government that this is what should be. Bobby wrote this song in 1971. Please listen.

Imagine this guy, dressed in a tuxedo, looking for-all-the-world like Mr. Establishment, singing a song like this. Just goes to show that you can't judge a book by its cover. He was a great entertainer and was becoming the voice of the people when he met his untimely death. There should be more like him!

Its not obvious, but what Bobby Darin did starting in about 1966, was ballsy. Total transformation in his style. He probably pissed off his older mainstream fans with this kind of material. But he really clearly did not care and I admire the hell out of that.

Bobby had his first open heart surgery in Feb 1971, this is Jan 1972. He had to take oxygen offstage between songs. He got his own NBC variety show in the summer of 1972. It lasted until May 1973. Bobby had his 2nd open heart surgery in Dec 1973. He died in the recovery room afterward. Bobby was a brave, wise soul. Gone too soon.

Bobby sang a lot of different styles of music, which means there's something for everyone. I remember some of his early songs which I didn't know @ the time were his! others I've never heard til recently on UTUBE. Some that he sang are songs I didn't like by those I heard originally sing them. But I DO like his recording of them. So, like I say, something for everyone. And I'm a bigger Bobby Darin fan than ever. IF HE ONLY KNEW! LOVE YOU BOBBY DARIN! SEE YOU IN HEAVEN!

I worked in a record shop in '59 when his Mack the Knife was number 1 the whole year. I mostly like the old music. I learned to like jazz and opera after working at the shop. I don't care for any of today's music. I saw on utube that he did a rap song so I had to listen to it. It was way before all the current rap artists. "Me and Mr. Horner Standing on the Corner". Guess what I have listened to this one more than a couple of times.

A local DJ friend took me out to the Flamingo Hotel to Bobby's dressing room and introduced us.Bobby went to LA and recorded 18 Yellow Roses. When he came back he came to where my band played, Twin Lakes Lodge. He sang this song that night, the first time it was played publicly. He was the nicest person you would ever hope to meet. Lyrics Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. Hey, there, mister black man, can you hear me? I don't want your diamonds or your game I just want to be someone known to you as me And I will bet my life you want the same. Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. Seven hundred million are ya list'nin'? Most of what you read is made of lies But, speakin' one to one ain't it everybody's sun To wake to in the mornin' when we rise? Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. Brother Solzhenitsyn, are you busy? If not, won't you drop this friend a line Tell me if the man who is plowin' up your land Has got the war machine upon his mind? Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. Now, no doubt some folks enjoy doin' battle Like presidents, prime ministers and kings So, let's all build them shelves Where they can fight among themselves Leave the people be who love to sing. Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. I say … let it fill the air … Tellin' people everywhere … We, the people here, don't want a war. play.google.com/music/preview/Tqxf63x6n5kfzl4xpmtk3vgoc7e?lyrics=1&pcampaignid=kp-lyrics&u=0#

Bobby Darin is truly one of our musical icons and his really caring deep side I don't think showed much on the performance circuit. I don't think I heard this song until I saw the movie beyond the Sea. And the dramatization of this song will never stop moving my emotions. And as others have said it is still very relevant today. Tragic that he had to have and go through the rheumatic fever -a deadly disease. My mother had it and a good friend of mine her mother had it. pm destroys the heart valves, and my mother literally died of a broken ❤️ figuratively and literally when they aorta broke as well and my friend's mother died also from the plastic replacement valves she obtained through surgery and they finally wore through. Bobby's music will be remembered forever and I hope his soul is soaring to greater heights and maybe he'll come back and reincarnate and bring help and energy to get us through this mess we r in right now!

It's incredible. His "People hear what they see" idea really worked. Bobby was booed off stage when he first sang his protest songs, wearing jeans + a mustache! As Bob Darin. They wanted their old Mack-the-knife-Bobby back! He didn't know what to do, so he combined it. Put on his tux again, sang a few of his old songs + some of his new material. These songs meant a lot to him. And suddenly the audience loved the protest songs,too! It was basically the same set list, he just looked different.
@The22on
@The22on 3 года назад
Good explanation! I heard the audience booed him off the stage when he changed from his big band style to the protest style. I didn't know Las Vegas audiences accepted him when he put on a tux. By the way, he looks and sounds super laid back in this video. I guess he was so sick. He didn't have the energy. But that worked for this song. The straight ahead style is better than the brassy style of his earlier days.

This has always been my favorite Darin recording, Splish Splash, You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby are of course amazing. But it seemed like whenever he sang this song he was putting himself completely into it and it was from his heart.

Just great. Bobby Darin did it all, and to think, with all his talents, he was open to new ideas! Thanks!.

Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war Hey there, Mister Black Man can you hear me? I don't want your diamonds or your game I do want to be someone known to you as me And I will bet my life you want the same Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war Seven hundred million are enlisted Most of what you read, most of what you read, is made of lies But speaking one to one, ain't it everybody's son To wake to in the morning when we rise? Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung, never sung, before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war No doubt some folks enjoy doin' battle Like presidents, prime ministers and kings So let's all build them shelves so they can fight among themselves And leave us be those who want to sing Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never, ever, sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never, ever, sung before Speaking one to one Ain't it everybody's son To wake to in the morning when we rise Speaking one to one Ain't it everybody's son To wake to in the morning when we rise .Songwriters: Bobby Darin.

Just saw a movie about Bobby Darin called Somewhere Beyond the Sea...When the actor sang this song at the Flamingo...in this movie... it shows that Darin tore the house down with that song. ..it is quite a song and Bobby was quite an artist.

God bless Bobby Darin, This song still holds some relevance today (in 2013) Sure Bush has left office, but some wars still drag on. Still we still want to sing a "Simple Song Of Freedom!"

(Canadian here) On Remembrance Day (Veterans Day in USA), my wife & I were listening to a special satellite radio music program from San Diego. 4 hours of ‘60s music honoring the Veterans, but I didn’t hear this song. As Mr Dave Harper commented here a few years ago, it’s as relevant today as it was initially recorded. Hmmm. I wonder what would happen if someone updated the names to be more current and re-recorded it?
