You Know what i said about The Beau Brummels, goes double for these guys!- i love Bobby Fuller! i was very sad to hear about his untimely demise, just as he was at the height of his career. they even did an UNSOLVED MYSTERY seg about him! whatever the case of this tragedy-Bobby Fuller was THE best,,and his Music will live-on forever!
I loved the 50's,60's and 70's genre of music......It is however unfortunate that there was some big losses of wonderful singers and intrument players during those era's too.....but,we do fortunetly still have the great music in which they composed, played and recorded to remember them by. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The clip of the jail guard dancing "the monkey" with Lada Edmund Jr is still kinda funny after all these years. Thanks for sharing this kinescope from NBC's Hullabaloo. May Mr. Fuller's murderer(s) be brought to justice and may Bobby be inducted into the rock hall someday.
This song was first made by Sonny Curtis and the Crickets, Buddy Holly's band, after Holly died in 1959. Bobby Fuller Four had the biggest hit with the song, though.
@MisFire45 Even Bobby didn't do it first. It became a local hit in some areas, and all it took was the Bobby Fuller Four's definitive version to put it on the charts.
Thanks for posting this. Best up-close pictures I've seen of Bobby Fuller. What happened to him? These were fine, clean-cut young men. Who was the girl in jail?
I was in Canada (Medicine Hat Alberta) in October 1973 and saw the “Frank Fuller Four” at a bar called the Royal, who sang this. I bought a Tape from them for $2 (long Gone) which had this song on.....Now to my question.......is it the same group?
I'm not sure what you're talking about with the lyrics. I don't know what version you've heard, by the studio recording of the clash song says "i left my baby" too.
Yep. They used to lip sync much more frequently in those days, and the mics sometimes had funny, futuristic shapes. Nonetheless, they were just for decoration.
I'm not saying either one is better or worse, but do a search for "I fought the law" followed by each band name and you'll find more results with the Clash than Bobby Fuller. And to clear things up by "best known" I meant more people know about it, not that it was the best version.
bobby fullers version is not the original either, tho probably the best, sonny curtis wrote the tune, and the crickets released the hit post buddy holly, around 1958...
