I lived in Montara ,California (as did Bobby) when he recorded this. What a treat it was to hear him practicing and the sweet sounds coming through the cypress trees in the morning. His son delivered my newspaper and more than once , when his son could not make it, my paper was delivered by a world class jazzz musician.

My roommate, Manny Boyd, was playing sax with Bobby when this album was recorded, and I was at the house at Montara once with him. I heard these tunes as Manny rehearsed, as I was hanging out in a wedding hammock in the living room, and can't hear these songs without feeling like I'm floating in that hammock.
One of my fondest memories is of first listening to Bobby Hutcherson when I was introduced to jazz 30 years ago... RIP & thank You, Serge. You were a legend ❤️
I'm an old school hip hop head so I remember when I was in college a group called the hoodratz used this on the remix to their song "murdered ova nuttin". also 90210 actor brian austin green used this in his song "that's right" from his "one stop carnival" lp. In the song he shouts out the black eyed peas who were completely unknown back then. both of those preceeded royal flush's use of the sample.
Was driving through Montara, CA the day he passed. What a beautiful strange world this is. The waves of vibe notes crashing and resting, playing and staying after the water retreats, imprinted on the sand.
been listening to so much harder hip hop music lately and this is so refreshing. Used to be so blow away every time I listened as I am right now, sooooooo smooth
An absolute favorite, it just does not get old. Even just the main melody is just as beautiful every time I hear it at both the beginning and end. Grooves so hard
Love it. Just googled 'Montara, CA', then clicked on 'images', while playing Madlib's version. Then it brought me here to the original. They both Connect.
This piece right here, take me back to my teens, Philadelphia Pa. WDAS-FM in the night time. Fairmount Park, relaxing! 70's music 🎵🎶 reigns Supreme for me!
My favorite vibraphonist. Love ALL his stuff. The early material is outstanding. Like his San Francisco Lp. His version of Maiden Voyage, from Lp/Cd Happenings. I could ramble on, just my favorite. Thank you
So superb and beautiful, in a way it's like lounge music raised to the highest art, just breathtaking...thanks so much for posting one of the great vibe players, right in the class of Lionel Hampton and Cal Tjader...
