I think it's what happens when you have a voice of solid gold, innate musicianship & a creativity that doesn't create boundaries, doesn't 'border' on genius but hits it dead centre. Great to see living breathing genius, because that's what this guy is.
Saw this live. A funny thing is that half the crowd knew what was coming, and were politely shushing the people who didn't. You really don't want to miss 2:08.
Does anybody has another version where the video and the sound are synchronized ? Because it takes a lot of the fun out of watching a live video when the timing's not right.
@Zeblin29 I'm affraid so... Wiki: "McFerrin is also capable of multiphonic singing; as observed in his song "Drive" from the 2005 DVD Live in Montreal."
@Zeblin29 haha yeah that really happened. We have two sets of vocal chords and some rare people can actually train and develop the ability to isolate each set and use them independently to produce two different notes at the same time. Now, its not like they can just speak and out comes two different tones, it's usually like what he did, special ways of singing that usually have to cause a lot of heavy vibration of the vocal chords. Some forms of "Tuvan Throat Singing" utilize multiphonic singing
That was one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen, and I've seen plenty of stuff. Truly remarkable. Too bad the line into the clinic was a mile long.
Please sync this. Please. I want to show my friends how awesome Bobby McFerrin is...This video has amazing sound quality, but I can't get the full effect unless it's in sync. Please?
Look like two comments down. I wouldn't put it past McFerrin to bust some Tuvan Throat Singing... He is definitely a very talented individual. So yeah, it's very possible multiple notes are being produced.
I have this DVD, I can tell you right now RU-vid does no justice for these videos. There are even more sound effects youtube is not picking up that you get on the DVD. Its worth it...
i remember his song don't worry be happy, but i had no idea he could all this great stuff! thanks to everyone who has posted his works-he blows me away-what a great talent!!!
Um I .... I will mention that on account of its amazeballs that anybody could do that I think bobby is a badass when it comes to what I think we all can assess is a variation of beat boxing
Does anyone have the slightest idea how he is singing the two notes at the same time? Cause it doesn't sound like overtones, more like every not was actually sung each with the whole set of overtones and such. Man, this guy is great.
It's actually different than tibetan throat singers. What Bobby's doing here is humming a note with his vocal cords, and buzzing his lips to make the harmonizing note at the same time. He's actually producing two separate notes with his throat and his mouth. The tibetan guys actually do it all with the throat and use harmonic overtones to generate the effect of there being two notes, but there's really only one sound being made. Bobby's method is the easier one to master by far!
It's so that he would lose his concentration, and those is still in the rhythm with his music. I would stop ppl from clapping if I was doing a presentation on about Phoenix Wright.
Hey guys i hope you don't mind but i love this video, but the fact that it was out of synq was such a shame i have taken it upon myself to resynq it and repost, which you can find on my channel which is 25crazymark, i hope you done mind. Much Love Mark Marler.
I know the audience enthusiasm it's something that an artist should cherish, but the western appluse is something completely against sound... it's noise on sound and it can really deconcentrate from the sound effects.

Not talent, practice. Don't ever think he didn't work hard for this. (I know because I can also do the harmonisation that he did at the end, and it took me seven months to learn)
Althought it's not in sync i just dont care. i love it. i listen to it everyday to chill me out. when im upset stressed or agnry i listen to Bobby McFerrin and i just hit a whole new world. He truly is one of the best singers of this planet =D
You right to be honest i couldnt understand the stuff you wrote beyond because i dont know those yet in english ill just try to do it on my guitar and ill understand
actually it's not. throat singing is when you make the uvula resonate an octave below the sung note. you can then bring out different harmonics. what he's doing here is making a 'raspberry' sound with his lips whilst humming a third (a tenth, if you're a geek like me) above it. it's a classic beatbox "robot noise" trick. rahzel does it all the time but as far as i know he doesn't have the ability to harmonise at will! takes some practice that's for sure!
