The Oceanside contest in 85 had a lot of the same obstacles but lacked a proper jump ramp, Mark Gonzales did an Ollie to 50-50 stall on just the seat/ledge below the railing and his last trick was a 50-50 stall on the seat of the picnic table.. and it blew everyone’s mind.. I was watching a vhs Vision tape in 1986..his run got me completely obsessed with learning how to Ollie high

I think everyone else wanted to ollie as high as mark too. At least I did. He is such a beast. This spot is 45 min from my house.

My buddy Tom and I watched this video constantly. Mark , Mike and Natas are the holy trinity of street style. We were so lucky to have seen the skate in demos. Thanks again Bobby for celebrating these seminal moments of our skate culture.

I'm surprised Bobby didn't mention Marks reaction to Natas heading towards that handrail. That part is completely PRICELESS. He literally gets so excited and pushes a dude out of the way, because he's so excited to see what was gonna happen.

My take-aways: Mark's riding small wheels. He's got a Powell shirt on when he rides for Vision. He does perhaps the first swongo push into that half cab boardslide. Great job as always Bobby.

@@kevvymetal666 I think that is correct more like 87. I think later there was a wheel Bones Streetstyle. I know it was at least before I could drive in 88. I think I first had the freestyles on the first SMA natas deck with the super narrow and steep tail. Also that Tracker GSD board that was narrow for the time.

Dig up the footy of mark doing kickflips to axle and to nosepick on those blocks like a year later. We saw that out east and started doing all of that at the time. I think it was in some store promo from vision or vision street wear

I went to that contest. Not even a year later, we were randomly skating a schoolyard curb in Monrovia and we saw Natas skating by himself and boardsliding back-to-back handrails. We couldn't believe that he was there and doing that. The way everyone reacted reinforced to me that vert was dead.
