Chris. Roger, Kelly, thanks fellas. Been paralyzed 6 years now. Jones to skate like no other. You really take me there with your chosen work. High fives for days. Al out of tucson. Big ups boys. I appreciate you and keep up the good work.
@@SubieLife10 skated since 3. Started riding bulls in rodeos at 13. Rode bulls for 20 years. Got hit in the face while training to go bask to the pros. Crushed my c6 woke up a weekf later paralyzed from the chest down. Haven't skated or rode a bull since. I've always skated. I was just decent at riding bulls. Better than i was at skating. My skate was like my first friend. No biggie.
He was definitely an archetypal mid-90s SLAP skater. So good. I was the only one in my crew of skate friends in high school that had a SLAP subscription, so I’d be getting into reading Bukowski, listening to Jazz and smoking Camel Lights and the other dudes were like WTF???
Phrases I would love to hear mentioned in any Nine Club episode. Kastel footwear, Silverstar boards, Dukes Shoes, Sonic boards, Capital boards, Nicotine wheels, Neighborhood boards, ATM Click boards, New School boards, Adrenalin boards, Acme boards, Channel One boards, Dukes shoes, 60/40 boards, Finesse/Status boards, A1 Meats Wheels, Chapman boards, Deadbolt Trucks.
Still regret giving my old Puleo enjoi deck away...thank you nine club for having the only pro skater besides Oyola who doesn't have a single clip at a schoolyard in Cali
Oh wow. Bobby Puleo is a "special...special...special guest! Bobby P. has always been one of my favorites. Such a wonderful style. I've been a fan since his Mad Circle days. A true East Coast legend right here. This is a going to be a good one. Definitely looking forward to his stories and insight. The Nine C is now 133-0.
i remember watching his static 2 part in my friend's bedroom before we go to skate over and over.. thank you guys for get him in this show, one of my favorite skateboarder here! you guys the best!
Kalis had such a dope skate style. Really got hyped off his Timecode part with Alien. I'd be interested to hear about all the stuff he did after skateboarding.
When Bobby mention that he would like to see Gonz’s room and everything from his past. I right away thought about new Spike Jones project Becoming Mark Gonz Gonzales. Imagine how many people would go on tour into the mind of the Gonz!!!!
I had a friend lose his spleen skateboarding also. Like hearing his roots from the past. I remember the 1st time I saw skateboards on the wall. Similar to my own experience. Seeing the pigs with all those graphics blew me away.
I remember his "Skate Anatomy" article in Skateboarder magazine I think it was. Always respected him just based on that. I later saw his actual skate footage for the first time and thought, "I've been missing wayyy out."
Bobby Pulio really have distinctive bigger picture about culture significance of skateboarding. Yes the board with four wheels is the basic, the center, of it, but there is lot of things that became part of the culture. Moment when he start talking about it is at 1h:40min. I love this episode just because Pulio actually dissect the whole skateboard culture.
I love how the skateboarding industry mafia aka deluxe and thrasher are so feared that it is almost a silent understanding that we aren't even supposed to talk about their bullying presence in the industry. but through many episodes, this is subtly implied or discussed.
Every kid I knew who skated in the late 90’s and early 2000’s had a Bobby Puleo board and a story how their sister dated him (actually it was 2 kids not every, I’m a liar) but still dudes a legend. Still remember watching him skate in nj
I was totally a fan of Bobby Puleo during his am days on Stereo. It makes zero sense that he was dropped from the team because he totally fit their whole vibe. Tin Can Folklore would’ve been even radder with a part from him and Ryan Hickey.
Ya know, I’d really like to see a Stop and Chat with Bobby. Would love to hear his take on all of this shit going on with the pandemic, plus his usual banter would be great to hear. Especially breaking down old clips! I could picture Bobby being super critical of himself and I’d imagine he has a great memory for shit like that as well.
Bobby, Alex from Lodi. I remember skating with you at the Passaic Banks. Amazing time. I remember being at your house and meeting your brother. Shut Skates, Nimbus, Charlie Butterly, Felix, Coco, Mark Vaslic (RIP), TJ Murphy, ESA, Clifton Banks, and the Clifton Skate Shop contests. So happy for you bro. I remember seeing you in Miami Skate park circa 1998. You where so cool. Great interview, love the Nine Club!! Wish you all the best my friend.
It was 'Fridge' magazine (I wrote a few articles for them), and 'La Luz' was mostly filmed by Jay Maldonado, but it was a Rockstar Bearings videon (I reviewed it for TWS).
Dude super in tune with music, art and architecture. Like, if he went to school and did some apprenticeship instead of skating, he might could have been having a career.
@@robertpuleo Damn, his name WAS Chase- he was making his oen hustle- amazing- I bought a set of swooshy camo pants. Robert I saw your tour of Skater Con- that was legit + you know your shit The granola California guys don't understand how DEEP skateboarding is to us from the East
It’s cool and also strange hearing skaters talk. Skating in the late 90s and 2000s it was mostly print media and a selective few video parts where you could pick up a bit of personality from your favorite skaters. 2 that always stood out were Dustin Dollin singing at the start of his Baker 2G part, and Josh Kalis talking in the reason, “skate, chill, run from the cops, smoke a blunt”.
This is an episode I've been hoping and waiting for a long time. Love Bobby and him talking puts a smile on my face. My spirit animal. Still skate 7,5s and 7,75s myself. I could relate to that wheel story so much, I remember skating home in the dark one time, there was this hill and I thought it would be great to bomb it since there was no traffic at all and I had brand new set of bearings as well. At the begining of it I see my wheel travelling all on it's own and going next to me. I'm like 'awww man'. Went back to the spot with a torch, going up and down the road and sidewalk. I found the wheel and the bolt as well, but the saddest part was that the bearing (or both of them, I can't remember) were gone. Spent good amount of time searching it in the middle of the night and just couldn't accept the fact that where it could have disappeared.
He’s cool. I’m stoked that his stories go all the way back to 85! I totally understand what he’s talking about seeing the Lester, Miller, Smith and Phillips. Those graphics were so colorful and intense! It was the beginning of a new era, and we had never seen anything like those skateboards that looked so amazing. Big wide decks with crazy color combinations. It was so new and so rad it could really blow your mind!
Man I'm still blown away by his backside flip? Or fs flip? Over that street, sidewalk to sidewalk. Forgot if it was sorry or really sorry. But shiiiit. He fucking flew like 8 feet across the road. Maybe more
Swedish Mailman it might have to due with having less (or perhaps no) sponsor pressures. He has nothing to prove. Which let's him be more relaxed and open.
Bought many boards @ Clifton Speed Center. Sadly it isn't there any more. Heard you drop Bobby's name in a later episode and had to look it up to see if it was him. Glad I found The Nine Club. Great show!
Ha I saw the other side of that Courthouse incident on The Come Up. He tried so hard to stop but bookin it without brakes, whoah skater's crossing. It ended up not being bad at all. What's his face wasn't having any of the riders multiple apologies though.
Holy Shit!! I stumbled upon this and it blew me away. I grew up in Clifton and his little brother Billy is one of my very best friends!! Great fucking podcast!!! The Mike V one was crazy too!!
Stoked! TRUE EAST! I ride BMX but Bobby and Ricky Oyola are the reason I ride street the way I do. Storm Doors and tight transition ftw! Also Indian School Ditch is FIRE! Bob Scerbo showed me some photos and footage he shot of Bobby and the spots alone were FIRE!!! But Bobby if you read this, you rule as does $cerbo!
Crazy we had the same early board! The GT coyote III ! A 80s wide board shape on 70s plastic board technology...as soon as I had some birthday cash I bought the Caballero
Bobby Puleo. Damn; so great to see you on the net’s best skate retrospective talk show. “Hobbiests” is the greatest term to coin the current “mass wave” of new skaters today. It’s the same sort of thing that happened very mildly in the mid-90’s, but has EXPLODED as a now “retro-revival” activity. The core culture is surely being over-saturated with fad-posers via over exposure. Justin Bieber is a “skater” now because it’s a hip thing to do and helps people like that to cling to a popular relevancy. Great show guys, and thank you.
