I met Chris Farley in a deli. He was eating a bowl of soup in a booth with a friend, laughing and talking, just a regular dude. I never do this, but I had to walk up to him and tell how him much I admired him and his comedy. So glad I did, because he stopped and gave me his full attention and shook my hand like he was actually glad to see this stranger interrupting his meal. His warmth and sincerity is what I will always remember about that brief but memorable interaction. Chris Farley was top notch, and I miss him.

When was this? He did have a rep for being super-nice to fans. David Spade said he would get annoyed because they'd be hanging out and if people came up to Farley and asked if he wanted to hang with them, he would.

My mom was actually kind of like this before she passed away with dementia. She wanted me to be there with her 24/7 and didn't trust anyone else with anything. One day I was doing something in another room while she was in bed and she started yelling and crying "Sunny! Sunny! I want my Sunny!" Even though she was surrounded by nurses who could have done anything she needed. When I came back she hugged me and apologized for "being a big baby" and I said it was ok and I was sorry for being away so long and scaring her.

I often like to imagine what that dimension is like.... Farley became a mega success after Shrek and switched to drama after he got clean and lean. He put on enough muscle that Marvel became interested in him to play Hawkeye. Farley stole the show in Thor. It forced them to make Thor more like Ragnorok from the beginning. He and Thor become good buddies and have that Spade/Farley chemistry. Farley became just as big a mega star as Robert Downey Jr. When Thanos snaps, everyone in the world watches Chris Farley turn to dust and they realize how different the world could have been without him. It ushers in an era of "Post snap" interpersonal peace and cooperation. The writers decide that the snap was such a potent pop culture phenomenon that they bring Hawkeye back only to have HIM use the infinity gauntlet. For the first AND last time, Hawkeye has super powers. He is the most powerful Avenger for one snap of his fingers and he saves the ENTIRE UNIVERSE. Everyone is forever changed by the sacrifice as if it were real. People really take the time to listen to one another after that. Everyone appreciates our very brief time together more after that. Chris Farley wins the Nobel peace prize after that in honor of his world peace tour. Marvel's first full on comedy is Hawkeye. Chris Farley perfectly portrays the self conscious side of Hawkeye surrounded by super humans. After Vision takes him out effortlessly in Civil War he really begins to wonder if he is good enough to be an Avenger. The Hawkeye movie was hilariously self aware, had a TON of heart, made us REALLY care about his family and PERFECTLY set up his daughter to take the spot light in the next phase. Farely is Tony's snarky suit voice after that and Stark becomes more of the Nick Fury role of the newer Avengers, like Hawkeye's daughter (that Tony feels responsible for just like Spider-man). Tony becomes the moral backbone of all people. The father figure for many of the younger characters. The new iron man should be the kid from Iron Man 3. So you've got Iron man all grown up and chasing after the next generation on Avengers. (Kept the MCU afloat for the next ten years). Bill Cosby isn't a rapist in that dimension where Farley was Shrek. Bush Sr. won a second term so Clinton wasn't able to sell out our country to China. China didn't become the economic powerhouse they are today. They didn't have the funds to mess with the coronavirus and let it escape. Bush sr finished the Iraq war the first go around and thus no 911.

you're right it's a scenario with characters that have been in many plays and works, long ago in Neopolitan commedia dell'arte, Shakespeare and more recently in America in vaudevillian Jewish slapstick a la Three Stooges. Farley plays Arlecchino the servant with two masters, Keaton is the Pantalone greedy and needy, and Sandler is the il Dottore the obstacle to lovers and comic foil to Pantalone. And of course ancient Greek and Romans also had these characters and genres

Same. I had a huge crush on Adam Sandler for years when I was younger.. however I used to tell people that I would have married Chris because I felt so bad for him. As someone who has been over weight and not the best looking chick around, I related so much to Chris. I remember watching TV and my mom came in from running errands. She told me she had bad news, she heard a celebrity had died on the radio. Someone I cared for. My heart sank because I thought it was Adam, when she told me it was Farley it broke my heart. I put a picture of him up in my room as a tribute to him. One day I want to get a tattoo in his honor, I just have to create a good one.
