I find it very ironic, though, as it shows more just how little people were paying attention all these years given that videogame development is an industry over fifty years old at this point! Even more notable is that most people in the industry back in the 1970s were educated adults with some years in computer science work already, so not the youngest people to start with. Thus, we actually have quite a few men and women today well over seventy years of age who can claim legitimate careers in game development. Strictly speaking, it has been a long while since people could start claiming their Grandpa or Grandma was a game developer. However, as you rightly point out, it is only now that it is becoming something that we take for granted should be the case! Time does fly when you are having fun!

i love it tbh its just as cheesy and funny (now) as like when creepypastas would be like "Mario stopped and turned his head to me, to the cameraーhis eyes became realistic and bloodshot, before blood began pouring from his eyes and down his face."

Maybe that's just the grandpa's humor, maybe the kind of humor that the people that used to be around him was not into anymore. Or who knows, some people when they grow old start doing whatever they want since they know they'll die soon anyways. So maybe he would genuinely do that sort of thing on the street.

I honestly kind of assumed the game, being unfinished, might just have had some of that text as a goofy placeholder until the grandfather came up with something better.

@@somethinganonymous1723 It was one of nine games in a collection of analog horror games. So I thought it was a finished game, although the dev could add more to it. I would like to see a little more, so I get the story and we see more of a conclusion. At least I hope they add more bc it was an interesting premise. And I liked the weird little sprite. :)

The lack of hygiene could be an allegory when an old person loses the ability to take care of themselves. Sometimes dementia could be the cause.

@@Sroup the long and short of it? It wasn't a Velma show, it was a Mindy show. And Mindy is... Basically, whenever a conservative calls someone a snowflake? Mindy is what they think of, when they say that: a cartoon feminist whose entire worldview is based on sticking it to people she doesn't like. Which includes herself and her heritage. They basically spent the entire show making fun of Fred being a glory-hog and a credit-stealer, using th universe to punish him (basically, he got turned into Meg from Family Guy with how much the show shits on him), but if you actually pay attention, you'd find that Velma is actually the one riding on the coattails of others.

That's how I feel about it. Plus the game having to explain to the player what they're supposed to feel and give them the message that the grandfather offed himself, made it seem like they couldn't covnvey the idea without using the players thoughts on screen. There was bad choices made by the dev, a good story teller would be able to deliver the point by showing the player, and not telling them. Context clues can be given, even in a short game. I wonder if it was intentional, because of how video game creepypastas had gotten so subpar.

Not to mention that were talking about a VHS tape... a game on a VHS tape...

not to mention what a pain in the ass it was to record gameplay footage that wasn't just a camcorder pointed at a screen
