The 3-way USB C port is a clever idea to make the Quest 2 suddenly dockable. However, I'm sure they could've sold even more units if they also bundled this with a controller charging solution. I REALLY want rechargeable controllers as well.

For myself I’d have to disagree with the controller charger being a part of it(atleast physically), a separate unit would be fine but some folks prefer batteries (myself included) too many times have I forgot to put my index controllers on charge and it sucks having to run cables to them and restrict overall mobility, where as with a pack of rechargeable batteries and a charger I have essentially unlimited play time.

Love the indepth review and the teardown, this is exactly what I'm looking for.

Looks like there is enough space inside to add some weights if you don't want to rely on the sticky pad. I know the Anker dock is much heavier, but that also makes it more expensive to ship. Seems simple enough to add some weights into the Bobo D2 Dock to hold it down, no? Thanks for the review!

@VR Commando During the teardown portion, did you notice a way to silence or reduce the charging beep of the d2?

is this dock still made? going into their website it isn't even listed anymore, it looks awesome specially due to the dual purpose connector

Hey great video, I saw the anker charging dock won’t fit the headset if you have a silicone cover, would this have the same issue?

So I am a bit confused....so can you charge on of the batteries while on the head strap.....IE one in the charger dock and one on the head strap....???
@MrTrumpoi
@MrTrumpoi 2 года назад
No, they said they are working on a fix for the future. So the optimal way is to take off the battery on the headset and put it in the specific battery charging port, as it won't charge the battery that's on the headset and only charges the actual headset.

Awesome video! I was looking into getting this setup for my Quest 2. I have a question and some thoughts though. Does it even make sense to get the dock? I feel like BOBOVR outdone themselves on this, let met elaborate. Since the BOBO battery charges faster than it can charge a Quest 2, I feel it wouldn't be a necessity to charge the headset itself with a dock. Just charge one of two BOBO battery's and you'd be good to go, the other one can charge while using your headset. Only benefit I see is the initial time to a battery swap would be decreased by 2 hours or so. Another benefit I think is the elegance of such a dock setup and more magnets :D Do you think it's worth the extra 50 euros? I do play on getting the strap and an extra battery anyway.

I would get the extra battery and think about the dock later, its there if you want it. As a resting place for your headset.

I’d pay more for a weighted version that allows for passthrough charging and has a way to charge the Touch controllers

I think Anker has a doc as well, for controllers and headset. This one does look cleaners tho, just doesn't have controller charging as you pointed out

As I commented above, it looks like there is enough space inside to add your own weights once you open it up. Doesn't help the charging the controllers issue, but does help with holding it down without resorting to the sticky pad alone.

Could this have the kkcobvr ir Illuminator plugged in to its pass through and have the bobom2 pros cable plugged into that?

as you are aware . when the charging indicator for the battery turns off . it should mean that the battery is fully charged . However there were a few times that the indicator turned off it was charged only 2 lights out of 4. since it is not at all times when fully charged after the charging indicator light turns off . I decided to no longer use the charging dock . just charging directly with cords . that way I have a guarantee of a full charge when I swap batteries

@VR Commando, during the teardown portion, did you notice where the module making the beep was? I’m trying to reduce the volume of the beep.

I should have looked out for that, didn't notice anything but next time its in my hands, I'll check and let you know.

@@VRKommando checking in again, were you ever able to figure out how it made the beep noise and if it could be disabled
@VRKommando
@VRKommando 2 года назад
@@Mitchhedburg Hey man, sorry it too this long to get back to you on that, I dug it up today and I can tell you that, yes you can indeed disable it, as it is using an SMD Buzzer, look it up on google, it looks like a small black box. Which can be seen in the disassembly part of the video. Tho it is not as easy as sniping a single wire. You will either need a soldering heat gun and some flux to remove it, or use a pair of plyers to crush it, or you could possibly use some hot glue to tone it down a bunch to a less aggressive chime.

Like all docks for the Quest it is designed backwards. You want the business end towards your face! It's a tool, not a table ornament. It doesn't really matter much with this design, only the cable is facing the wrong way.

hi I'm reading some other reviews that it start beeping constantly, encounter any of this after using it for a while? thanks
@VRKommando
@VRKommando 2 года назад
I read the manual, it says if something is wrong, it will do that, haven't ran into that issue yet personally. It says to use the original oculus charger and cable if you have it, and to detach the battery from the strap when using it
@VRKommando
@VRKommando 2 года назад
O yea in the manual it also says to shutdown the headset before charging. I asked them about this. But that has been fixed apparently with the new models, the IC has been changed on all current units and the program has been rewritten. What I understand is that the quest 2 uses a little bit of battery and the quest 2 wakes it up constantly to charge, while its on.
@travislowrider6623

So should it be shutdown when docked on the new units or no?
