Nobody gives credit to the defence who cleared the crease, kept oil to the outside, didn’t give many rebound opportunities, next to no second chances, let bob see everything and completely shut them down in the third period

Panthers will come out next game better than this one. Run and gun from tbe Oilers won't work, you can see as the game went on that the Oilers were slower than they were in the beginning. Panthers have been good at that this year, generally. Their style of play always will send them to the box more than average, but these playoffs they've been especially effective of picking their moments to use their physicality and pest tactics, as well as not retaliating as hard or as much as they did last year. Oilers are going to struggle if they can't get 5v5 scoring

Bobrovski wasn't even playing at his peak. He's got levels he can climb to if needed. But if McOverrated isn't going to step up and lead his team(that doesn't belong here) then why should Sergei even turn it up to 2. 🤣🍻 Watch next game, Stewie is gonna get another juice jab from the training staff and look like he did in the final 2 games against Dallas.

The clear lack of depth is what I think the Oilers are going to struggle with. Especially towards the end of the game you saw what Ray Ferraro kept referring to as a “fivesome”. The best five guys on the ice for the oilers and they struggled offensively when they weren’t on the ice.

I'm a Canadian and I knew Edmonton doesn't have it in them to win this series. You cannot win games with only 5 players and mediocre goalie. Next game, now that the Panthers have warmed up, your gonna see another blow out. Obviously the Oilers was fresher. They had more than a day and a half of waiting than the Oilers 4 days. The media is setting up the Oilers for massive failure saying they are a powerhouse of a team just cause of McDavid. He is only one person. You need a full team to win like Florida.

Bob was DIALED all game. If it plays like this as the team plays much better that they did tonight, Florida should have no problems moving forward. There's definitely plenty to take away from tonight from both sides, Edmonton just got badly outgoalie'd, and Florida needs to get a lot more shots on goal and start forechecking more, which is why they're even here in to begin with.

oilers only outplayed florida in the first period. By the second it was high quality chances both ways, and after florida got an insurance goal they started playing more conservatively. Game management became the focus. Their 2nd powerplay looked weak because they weren't taking any chances that late in the third. Why give the oilers a short handed break that would change the game when you can just kill 2 mins off the clock? They didn't need to press for another goal, just make the oilers come 200 feet every time and clog up the neutral zone making it impossible for a rush goal.

Im convinced Canada will never see another stanley cup victory ever again. Statistically speaking we are already very unlucky, going 30+ years without a cup, having like 6-7 canadians teams in the league. And of course we have only see 5 teams make the finals since the 05 lockout.... of course all 5 have lost. of course. we had the canucks lose in 94, flames lost in 04, oilers in 06, sens in 07. nucks in 11, canadiens in 21, and now the oilers. But something always happens that we just fucking lose. Its been so bad that i cant even get excited for hockey. Im so unbelievably frustrated constantly not being excited for the cup winners. The only time i was truly happy, was seeing Ovy win it in 18. Other than that, half the time i dont even watch the finals. Just a total bummer. NHL sucks. oilers suck. canada sucks.

Yeah, I'm not sure what this commentary was, but I understand the glazing of the Oilers to an extent. The Oilers played the best hockey I've seen them play in these playoffs, and the panthers other than bobrovsky played some of the worst. The oilers doubling the Shots on goal, calls in their favor, and overall oppressive offense in game 1 should have had them winning this game. Instead they can't even put 1 on the board. I called Panthers in 4 before the series started, because it's the best team in the NHL vs. the most overrated team maybe ever, but we'll see how that goes. Considering this was a game 1 and the teams were feeling each other out, I doubt we see FLA play this poorly again this series, and I think it's unlikely EDM plays like this again. The Oilers are gonna want this one back for sure.

Knoblauch panicked yet again and tried to get Draisaitl to carry McDavid, which just puts the Oiler's two best players against Florida's shutdown line instead of one of them. Good Florida goaltending, bad Oiler's coaching, and full credit the Panthers buried their chances unlike the Oilers.

Counter view. Florida fans should be scared. They got outplayed for 40 minutes straight and only started to look like the normal panthers during the last 10 minutes when they switched to the trap to just sit on the lead. They play the same game again and oilers win 99.9% of the time. They need to show everyone that the first 2 periods weren’t just a fluke. A couple of bounces that go the other way and a fraction of the luck Florida had and Edmonton could have easily won this game and everyone would be saying they looked dominant and Florida doesn’t have an answer for there offense. It felt like oilers were on the verge of a comeback up until the 3rd goal

There's a flip side to that. Edmonton fans should be scared. The Panthers played their worst game of the playoffs and still got a 3-0 shutout victory. They won't have back to back games like that and may not again for the series. Edmonton had this game and let it get away. Big mistake. They came out like Mike Tyson, throwing haymakers and uppercuts and got nothing to show for it, not even a single goal. The Panthers will watch film and regroup as a team and be much better game 2. How can the Oilers be much better?

Tonight the Panthers looked like what the Rangers looked like against Panthers in ECF. They gotta step it up since relying on your goalie this much to carry might come back to bite you. That being said I think Panthers are able to step their game up from what we saw tonight, they were not playing their best game

Looking at the stats and at the game, two things strike me: the panthers were working on adjusting to how McDavid and Draisaitl play in the playoffs and working on figuring out the best way to shut them down. 1) that took them 40 minutes of adjusting, not that surprised they tend to be a little rough after long breaks. But even with Barkov's line not having the best game defensively (a rarity) they still did a lot of work to give Bob his best chance to steal the game 2) outside of the Barkov-McDavid matchup, the Cats 2nd and 3rd lines were extremely effective in disrupting play by the Oilers depth. And ERod scoring bodes well for their ability to push through the Oiler's defense. Ultimately I kind of expect this series to be like the Rangers-Cats series, where you saw the top lines on both sides mostly fall quiet, but because on the Panther's side, they were mainly focused on defensive play.

I don’t really think the Oilers outplayed Florida by a mile. Sure their shot count was much higher but how many of those were solid chances? Oilers had 10 PP minutes and couldn’t score once. They had McDavid, Leon, Hyman with over 23+ minutes on the ice. Their star players have already been burnt all playoffs trying to score and win its only going to get more tiring and grueling for them over this series. Florida just doesn’t need to play their top players that much to be effective.

Last night was all about learning that analytics are moot. Quality over Quantity. The refs were a bit…lenient..but all and all..if I wasn’t trying to pull for the Canadian team to finally get a cup back..I would have enjoyed it. Bob is a beast.

Bob had a expected 5.61 Goals saved above THIS game. Before this game he had a expected 4.8 TOTAL in the whole playoffs. Anyone that thinks this is not going to come smacking back to parity is insane.

Bobrovsky can only protect the Panthers for so long. The Oilers were just feeling them out is all😅

Oilers played better. Much more skill. Florida just played dirty and used brute force right out the gate. Skill level not even comparable to the oilers players. It was bobrovaky that carried the panthers. He's the only reason they won. He is a good goal tender.. wow.
