We set off on another adventure to Bocas Del Toro! We make a quick stop at Escudo de Veraguas, a beautiful island just east of Bocas. We are abruptly woken up at 3am by a squall with torrential rain and large waves. We drag anchor but are saved by a rock that captures the anchor. It was a bit touch and go, but lady luck saved us. We planned on snorkeling on the north end of the island, but the waves were too big so we set off for Laguna de Bluefield.
Arriving at Laguna de Bluefield, we are surrounded by desperate locals in search of anything they can get from us for free. Three weeks of protesting had taken it's toll on this small community.
We leave early the next morning at anchor at Crawl Cay, a calm anchorage that gave us a taste of Bocas; however, the next morning when we tried to lift anchor, it was snagged on some dead corral. I tried everything I could to get us free: back and forth, turning in circles. Finally, I let out all the chain by accident as the chain jumped off the windlass, tied it to the cleat with a snubber and then ran the boat at full speed. I managed to break the anchor off the coral, but i also broke the line with the snubber and the chain holder. It swiftly sank to the bottom of the ocean.
We then sail east and find a secluded anchorage behind The Blue Coconut. However, as it was filthy Fridays, we listened to techno music all night long until 5 am. We then set off for Starfish Beach, the most western location of Bocas. We met up with some friends and had a wonderful few days catching up over lobster dinner and drinks.
We then meet up with some new friends with a girl the same age as Sakura. They became fast friends and we had a wonderful time with them in their house that they were house sitting for; however, we did get eaten alive by noseems. Poor Tomoko was eaten the worst by them.
We head for Bocus del Toro town and provision and chill out. We celebrate Tomoko's birthday with friends and move on to the Red Frog Marina for some white sandy beach and R&R. Afterwards, we head through the cut to Dolphin Bay. We snorkel and eat a wonderful dinner at the Blue Dolphin restaurant
The following day we head back to Bocas del Toro before heading back to Shelter Bay Marina.
Good times were had by all.
