A number of factors can occur after hitting a log: It can sink your boat, damage your boat, or scratch your boat. That’s why it’s important to have a look out when sailing close to shore and especially around river inlets. You can hit debris off shore, but the risk factor is considerably less.
With this heavy bureaucracy, there is no reason to sail to the US. Expensive country with a polluted environment, uneducated people, and aggressive police officers ... I am sure there are better places to visit :)
Thank you! We found this out a bit late. We thought because we've been the US before it would be the same. Nope! No we have to jump a bunch of hurdles. Never a dull moment.
@@sailingdiscoverypassage we're in Mazatlan heading north back into the SoC for another summer of desert melting. We now have our Temp Res so we'll be sailing up and down Mexico for the next 4yrs 😃
@@SailingInfidels Mazatlán is awesome. Love that town. Glad you got your perms in! SoC is a beautiful spot. I'd love to sail it again one day. All the best and fair winds from Columbia!
Just found your channel. Family and everything is inspirational. Super great attitude. When your daughter wants to show a new trick and you say “okay in a little bit honey.” Reminded me of a Louis C K episode. Gonna binge the rest!
was that bird hooked by it’s beak? That was a tough release. I was thinking you’d hook it before it happened. I heard you should bring lots of clothing donations to that area and many local people sell food to the boaters to earn a living. Nice to see.
Golfito was a cool place to hang out for a few days. We checked out there and then checked into Panama City. Cruising Panama's Pacific was awesome. We wanted to see more, but we had to push on to the Canal to get to reduce lightening strikes. It was wild out there.
Poor boss. Did I hear you use plasma from his blood to treat the eye? Super cool. I guess navionics doesn’t have any chart updates for that area. Did you get hauled out twice due to the water intake clog? Wow. Hope you got a deal.
Yes, we used plasma. We befriended a vet in town that helped us out. We didn't have to haul out to unclog the intake. I shut off the through hull and cleaned the pipe.
After all the anticipation it looks so easy once you get in the lock, but I can see why they make you take 6 people along. Then you can take a million photos and enjoy it way more😆. Was it fast?
That's on the Pacific side, it's called Taboga Island. It was a real treat going there. Boat life allows you to explore all the islands that would otherwise be cost prohibitive.
OK, I have to give it to you. I have watched a lot of sailing videos. I have seen many near disaster episodes. I think yours tops the list in the "Guess what happed to us" episodes. I am so glad you all came out on top!
We use both Predict Wind, Windy, Zoom Earth, Weather Bug as well as local weather. We also bounce around the different forecasts such as ECMWF, GFS, and ICON. But we lean more towards ECMWF. With Windy, we check rain, wind, waves, current and CAPE; however, we find that CAPE is like reading tea leaves in a cup...
My thoughts and prayers go to the Panamanian people and I hope they can form a better deal with Canadian mining companies. This seems like an outrage! 😥
I do not care WHAT you say 🙅♂️ (as far as the various “benefits” to/of Panama 🇵🇦,….This is the MAIN reason why I will NEVER want to Retire with/to Panama. I don’t mind the overall “concept” (and veracity) of protesting - since in the USA there are VARIOUS places, that have protest 🪧- BUT…. it is NEVER to the point that it SHUTS DOWN (the ENTIRE county). So, you can HAVE your country 👎👎👎 (Panama), which is CRAZY 🤪 (due to this one ☝️ reason).
Jeez La Estrella de Panamá has several articles on environmental law breaches the mine has incurred with chemicals in the water. Also, the river issue is GEOGRAPHY. The mine threatens the Canal because it usesbthe waters that could be diverted for a potential new affluent. The Panama Canal creates one-third of our GDP, not 80% (directly and indirectly) You got the protest issue right. There are several unconstitutionality lawsuits surrounding the mine issue. It has arrived to the Supreme Court, I think about 8 lawsuits or something. The sad thing is that the new contract (the one we're protesting) has much of the same unconstitutionality quibbles as the last contract (the one that was struck down by our court). There's no referendum. The country demanded the president to stand down on that ridiculous proposal, since that (or derogation by law) would hurt Panama's chance in international arbitration and foist the blame on the Panamanian people. The protests are going to get worse because a white supremacist Zonian lone-wolfed several protesting teachers.
Your GDP figures are waaaaay off. The canal authority does provide a steady revenue stream. That is true. But you are off by a factor of nearly 8. Do better please.
@@sailingdiscoverypassageThis is a lazy answer. You cannot link stuff to RU-vid anymore (or I've been shadowbanmed), but please Google: “elibrary” IMF “Panama's Growth Story” Exactly as I typed it, please Read point 24. Canal net income is 3% of GDP. What's 80% of our GDP is the service SECTOR, of which the Canal is the most significant entity.
Thank you for your comment. I have linked the pdf to law 406 at the bottom of the description and to this comment. It's in Spanish, so i'm going to have to do my best to translate it. I believe after a brief look at it that it's in 4 zones, but after speaking to locals about the zones, they say it's complicated, so I'm not sure what that means exactly. www.gacetaoficial.gob.pa/pdfTemp/29894_A/GacetaNo_29894a_20231020.pdf
Panama is in alot of trouble economically. I think the people are right to protest. But all the subsidies after last years protests were a bad sign. Government spending at a deficit. Canal volumes to reduce by up to 50% and as you said its 80% of the GDP. Panama destined for economic collapse!
Los europeos se quejan de la de forestación. Y no le van a comprar cafe a perú por deforestar. Pero ellos destrosan africa y muchos países en desarrollo la doble moral que tienen 😢
