Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #166!
Exploring the historic ghost town of Bodie, CA. The upsides: there are TONS of buildings left standing, sealed off exactly as the previous inhabitants left them -- furniture and all! The downsides: you can't go inside most of them, and because this is a well-known, easily-accessed tourist attraction, it gets really crowded. Also, it is now a CA State Park, so you have to pay $8 to go in.

My family went to Bodie when I was a little kid in the mid 60's......My dad and I explored all the old cabins before they were off limits.....Thanks for the Vid Sarah Jane....You're destined to be the next Huell Howser!

Glad you finally got to Bodie. My first trip there was 1955 and was a lot more open to explore, not a state park then. There was an old "Watchman' (that's what was hand painted on his Model A door), he packed a six gun and kept a pretty good eye on things. A movie was made in about 1932 there called Hell's Hero's show some of the town before big fire.

I'm a pool table installer and that billiard table is worth $100,000+. The bottom is entirely cast iron. Amazing! I love your videos. Thank you for what you do. I live on the east coast and might start doing abandoned videos over here very soon. Stay safe!

Hey Hussy. I first went to Bodie in the mid 1960's ,it hasn't changed much. The town is pretty remote, and the State has done a really good job with allowing Bodie to just return to nature. Great tour!

I too was at Bodie in the early 60s. I was with somebody that grew up there. That somebody was my grandfather. It was beautiful that he could show me the history of his life.

Some of the old coffins had a glass window for viewing because it was to much work to take the lid off after it was nailed shut. And you did not smell the body that way.

Bodie is so cool! I wish you could go in the buildings but then people would tear things up, at least they could stand up the bottles on the bar. That pool table was awesome! I wonder how much it's worth? Great video, Thanks Wonderhussy!

Good thing you didn't take anything from there. It's said taking anything from there brings bad luck. I watched a documentary about this town and the park employees said they get knick-knacks in the mail all tbe time. Items people took as a souvenir and reported all kinds crap happening to them. One employee stated he even dusts the dirt off the bottoms of his shoes before he goes home at night. Better safe than sorry...Good Vid 😁

You missed out. That mill is in incredible shape. It has 4 x 5 stamp mills in tact, shaker plates, mercury amalgamation plates, the 2 original electrical motors (they switched from steam), a lathe that will handle a 16' stock... that was used in the civil war in the south then shipped there by train and the final bunch of miles by oxen and wagon... it is a must see!!! The most intact mill I have seen out of approx. 100 or more ghost towns.

Hello again from rural New Hampshire. I saw an amazing bio on Brodie on RU-vid. Yes they have park rangers that stay on site but it is pretty much closed down in the fall. For those planning a trip. Been over thirty years since I was through Bodie . I do remember the undertaker building. The place that you thought might be a kitchen was the assay lab where the chemist checked ore samples to determine the grade of ore that was being mined. They needed to know just how much gold and silver was being mined. If you go traveling next summer I would suggest paying a visit to Leadville . The National Mining Hall of Fame and museum is a must visit to get you aquatinted with the process of how the ore was mined from early day to present.

Bodie has such extreme weather it is amazing the buildings have withstood time. The old windows are quite reflective and hint at high lead content. I have been there three times, all summer and two times hit with monsoonal downpours and had to take shelter. I am headed back there in two weeks to take 8K video and HD photos. A professional photographer friend has tours of Bodie and has night time access and opened doors on buildings. YIKES! LOL

An interesting, large, well preserved abandoned mining town. Can't believe the number of tourists there. Too bad that everything is closed up and well secured. I believe that if this ghost town was in Nevada things would be looser with better access, what do you think, Sarah? The video and audio are good - I saw by reflection that you are using your smart phone, sorry your go pros are not working, Damn If I had the bux I'd buy you a new one, but I live in the big D ghost town and well... you know. All in all this was a good quickie! BTW, I thought your comments around the church were discreet. You don't want to get demonetized - can't be too careful with yt these days...

Hello Sarah Jane, many years ago a buddy of mine took home some sort of relic from Bodie, CA and severely regretted doing so due to the nightmares he experienced as he claims was caused by the artifact.. I can relate to this because it happened to me when I was around 11 yrs old after taking something from a drawer of an antique cabinet inside an old pre =WW2 mansion in the Philippines... it had Japanese characters on it. Anyway thanks again for another excellent video...take care.

Well IMHO , { my 1/2 cent thought } I am not superstitious and don't believe in curses either, most of the stuff I went through happened during my early age which I wont and dare fabricate for history;s sake..most people think of "ghost's as "SUPERNATURAL' they are not .. they are energy imprints left behind just like magnetic tape ...natural..so why be scared of footprints..lol I have had my share to a point where it would be funny to be scared ... life is great.. to me LOVE is a mystery now eat that.. That's probably a child's coffin, Sarah. (Not just because they were short.) Magnificent houses were common then for "funeral parlors" as only after the Civil War - did humans begin to consign burials. BEFORE it was TOTALLY a family matter/ and Private.
