Bodycam footage of Rayshard Brooks’ death shows calm, then chaos 

This was not about the man being black at all.

I am a black person and this dude died cause he acted against this officers.

The only thing racially motivated about this situation was the cop being fired.

I see no racism whatsoever but I do see stupidity in Mr. Brooks actions! RIP

As someone that has lost a loved one due to the actions of a drunk driver, the fact that he was clearly intoxicated keeps getting glossed over. He had no business being behind the wheel of a car in his state of sobriety. The officer whose taser was stolen was aiming at his leg, Mr. Brooks was fleeing after assaulting them and had a high aim sight towards head neck level. Tragic turn of events but could have been completely avoided if he just wouldn’t have gotten behind the wheel and owned up to the fact he was too drunk to drive.

I don't see that it is Black vs White issue. This is resisting arrest issue.

He chose to drink, he chose to drive drunk, he chose to sit in line as he was falling asleep, he chose to resist arrest, he chose to fight the cops and steal their taser, he chose to run and for some reason turn and fire the taser at the pursuing cop. If he doesn’t do ANY one of these things listed above, he lives.

My brother is permanently disabled and friend dead because of a drunk driver. The guy got off with a slap on the wrist. Few years later, the same guy ran over a mother and her daughter killing them. Drinking and driving is not a minor crime. Everyone found drinking and driving should be arrested. Period.

This is exactly why all police should be required to have body cams and dash cams running at all times. It will help the good cops, and it will help weed out the bad ones. It's the ultimate form of accountability.

Perfect example of why all cops should have body cams with video and audio. Also they shouldn’t have access to on/off switch. If I were a cop I wouldn’t work without one. If you’re a good cop a body cam is your best weapon! This guy could’ve been out of jail in less than 24 hours but his actions cost him his life.

Once you grab an officer's weapon, you deserve whatever happens.

Guy took the taser off an officer after resisting arrest and tried to run away. No one deserves to die, but this has nothing to do with race.

Its never a good idea to take any weapon from an officer, run away from the officer, then use that same weapon to fire on the officer. Usually not a good outcome...

See everything was going good until He jacked away from the police, all they said was "U are unable to drive because your under the influence" the police was not just helping him but also making sure he dont drive and kill a innocent bystander.. So from what i saw, he got his self killed for making a dumbass decision..

At 5:40 then he asks for an update on "Mr. Brooks"... It's kinda heartbreaking. This officer didn't go out that night wanting to shoot anybody. After everything is done, he's still concerned for the man.

1. Has drunk so much that he slept in the drive thru. 2. Failed sobriety test. 3. Resisted arrest. 4. Stole an officer's weapon. 5. Fired said weapon while escaping. 6. Got shot.

My friend is hospitalized in intensive care right now after being struck by a drunk driver yesterday. Ms Mayor of Atlanta I have 0 sympathy for drunk drivers.

As a police officer I can tell you that based upon all of my training this level of force was reasonable and justified. We should not expect our police officers to die in order to avoid the use of deadly force.

this is way different than what happened to George Floyd.

He turned into a straight up bull when the cuffs came out after he failed the sobriety test. Everyone and each step was performed calmly up until that point. The cops did their job respectively. Rayshard dialed his own demise and the cop shouldn't be looked at as a criminal at all. The truth is shown on this body cam.

This was entirely self defence. The only reason this was even talked about is because the man was black.

This man had 2 choices: 1. Don't resist, spend a night in the Drunk Tank to sober up and go home the next morning and fight the charges in a Court of Law at a later date. 2. Resist being arrested, assault a Police Officer, take the Officer's taser and then fire said taser at the Officer. Ķnowing that you will be shot if you do. He made the wrong choice...

guy was fired simply because of the cop hate climate. he did everything he was supposed to do and gave the guy so many chances to stop resisting.

This is tragedy could have been entirely avoided had Mr. Brooks remained calm and allowed himself to be lawfully taken into custody. Violence was Mr. Brooks unfortunate choice.

In case you guys don't know this: A cop cannot afford at all to be hit with his own taser. If you grab a cop's taser it is incredibly difficult for them to prioritize your safety above theirs.

For anyone with no law enforcement experience, please READ THIS with an open mind and then put yourself in the officer's position> This definitely wasn't racial, I mean they treated the driver with full respect and compassion, even being concerned about his condition at the hospital. A taser is a "less" lethal option, NOT a 'non' lethal option. Cops are trained on how to PROPERLY USE a taser. You can see the guy shot it directly at the officer's face. Taser prongs are 2 inches long and could go into your eyes and blind and/or kill you. Now, consider this> they were only at the handcuffing process, so they wouldn't have conducted a full search of his person for weapons etc. With a full adrenaline dump, in one quick second the guy points the taser and fires it at the officer, and a taser deployment makes a loud bang, it's night time and there's a flashlight on the end of a taser which will blind your view of anything past the light in the dark. So under all that stress, and the split second action that the driver did when he turned and shot the taser, and the sound of a shot going off, don't think for a second that YOU would be able to see he was pointing a yellow taser and might not have drawn a firearm that he could've had on him the whole time. That, plus all of those actions are 100% consistent with someone running and pulling a firearm to shoot at police while fleeing, which police are conditioned to seeing on every similar video and some even from experience. PUT YOURSELF IN THAT POSITION, and tell me how YOU could have saved the day instead. This was not a George Floyd incident; this is 100% justified, but very, very unfortunate. And you could see the officer was compassionate from the beginning- something the media loves to edit out when police "murder" people acting violently and portraying deadly force against them. Police do not want to kill anyone, so stop believing the ridiculous media hype over what ONE idiot person does... and I say person, because any officer who intentionally causes death to someone IS NOT and NEVER WAS a 'police officer'.

Mr. Brooks would've been in the drunk tank for a few days and fought the DUI in court like everybody else. But that night he had a self destructive mindset, and now he's gone. The cop who killed him had every right to protect his partner, and even had the respect to ask "Is Mr. Brooks alright?" afterward.

So, when a drunk person resists arrest, physically fights the cops. Then takes a cops tazer, and shoots the cop with his own weapon. What was the cop supposed to do when his own life was being put in danger? Stand there and politely ask the drunk with a weapon to stop attacking him, and please return his weapon? These cops did no wrong.

Well, this changes everything. The cops were in the right! The man started the entire thing!

The cops should be given their jobs back.
