I'm not sure about this one, but I found that as the woman is walking away, Arthur looks at her desperately with a kind a pleading sorrow in his face, as he doesn't want to freak her out and is trying to show that in his face. It could also be a cry for help, like the one she loosely gave him when she looked in his direction while the guys were harassing her. It seemed poetic to me how those two scenes seemed to reflect off each other.

Harassing people is bad enough, but antagonizing and assaulting someone who obviously has a psychiatric/neurological condition is beyond low. I feel like this should serve as a very grave warning to the terminally vile assholes of the world that just because someone is disabled doesn't mean they're going to be your victim. I support everyone who is of stable and sound mind and able to take the training courses and safety education who chooses to arm themselves, because nothing puts three physically superior attackers in their place faster than some .45ACP or .357 magnum. Doesn't matter if you're 4 feet tall and 90 pounds or wheelchair bound, a loaded magazine and the flick of a safety can save your life from a 6' 10" 280 pound linebacker.

That could be, given how nervous and anxious Arthur is for the first half of the movie. But even so, we do know that Arthur had to have killed these guys as it had lasting repercussions in the movie outside of just what effects him (i.e. more consistent than any of his other fantasies.) So if he did fantasize their threatening nature, it isn’t like his fantasy with his “girlfriend” or the stand up at Pogo’s where he feels empowered, since he’s just as scared as the lady appears to be (though that could also be projecting). As we see, the shooting (at least the first shot and debatably second) was in self defense until he purposely hunted down the third guy. So if the guys weren’t drunk and belligerent as we see them here, what instigated the fight? Could’ve been something else, but I can see these Wall Street guys being drunk and belligerent (why else would they take the subway home?)

For me the best part of that scene is when Arthur briefly points the gun at himself and realises that killing himself would only enforce the ideolgy of the press. He killed 2 men and killed himself? Run of the mill story. He instead decides to become "The Joker" executing the harasser, and sowing the seeds of the symbol he created at the end of the film. That's how I saw it anyway, Great video!

Did Arthur laughs because he gets emotional (His patholagical condition) that he felt sad that he is unable to help! Or he fake it so they get distracted with Arthur and the woman is safed?! WOW!! this movie is really awesome and filled with many unbreaked-down scenes! Edit: when you said 2:27 I disagree I think that he looks at them briefly because he want to caught their attention.. looks down and briefly looks at them so they might think that he is mocking them (You know when you laugh at someone but you don't want him to notice!) I think that Arthur (AS Joker the most hyper-sane character ever created) is doing this in purpose, and he thought that when he tell them that he have a condition they will leave him alone! but they didn't and that's why he was furious in Murray's show and blaming the audience that they feel sorry for the wall st. guys!

Certain motor functions, such as the crossing of one's legs, does not always have meaning behind it. For the woman on the train, it's a matter of physical comfort as humans tend to rest their dominant leg over their non-dominant one. Direction is irrelevant. Furthermore, through all this analysis about subtlety in human behavior, you glossed over the fact that Arthur managed to fire 8 rounds from a 6 round 38. revolver.

@Tounushi
@Tounushi 3 года назад
What I liked about the scene was that the gunshots were far louder than they usually are in films. In action films, the staccato of repeated firing is for the sake of an action scene, in dramas the gun is just an implement for its user to enact his will. With the gunshot being loud, it is itself a force, the violent and life-breaking enactor of Joker's desire. And in real life, the explosion of several grams of explosives and (depending on the cartridge) the supersonic crack is really damn loud. Earpro exists for a reason and suppressors are a desired item for that same reason. Earpro protects your ears, suppressors simply mitigate the noise. Though for your ears the mitigation is the difference between standing next to a concert loudspeaker and having your headset on maximum.
