In this video I'll be finishing all of the body filler work a.k.a. Bondo, and then it's on to primer. I will show you the steps necessary to get through this process and I will also throw in a DIY tool making tutorial in as a bonus.
Just a disclaimer, the whole drinking and driving scene wasn't real... No alcohol was consumed before I went on the drive. That's not a behavior that I would condone. So just wanted to clear that up.
I've been in my neighborhood for a long time, and I always help my neighbors out with any car problems that they may have, therefore everyone likes me around here and no one's gonna call on me :-)
Stumbled on your videos and I’m just blown away by your skills and common sense. Now I’m going thru all your videos. I also suspected that you were Russian as am I, 99.9 % sure. It takes one to know one. Anyway your awesome skills and results got me hooked from n your videos.
Thanks man!! Really appreciate your comment. Yes, I am Russian 👍 and I got a lot more videos in the works that will be getting posted here pretty soon, stay tuned, hope you'll like them :-)
I try that next time :) with the first piece of tape I overlapped the pencil line just barely, so once I peeled the tape off that line was still present so I was able to tape right up to it once more
You have been so good to help us. I want to give you a great tip. There is a product called “The Blade” that is fantastic for shaping panels with body filler with a skin coat, once the metal work is done. Have you heard of this ?
I'm familiar with the "Blade" and I'm not too impressed with it, it only works on large flat areas... it's just a large spreader, instead you can just use a 12 inch drywall mud spreader with similar results... Can't use it on surfaces with compound curves
Great video as always brother ! Can’t wait to see the finish product ! What grit sandpaper do you use to start sanding the filler ? I’ve heard Normally you will use 36 grit to remove paint down to bare metal and to do some rough shaping of your autobody filler. Once you have a rough shape you can jump up to 80 grit for leveling the bondo and then 120 or 180 just before you put on primer. Is that accurate?
You can use 36/40 grit paper if you are working on a large area and need to blend it all together rather quick. In smaller areas like in this vid since I had metal work done pretty good I didn't have to put a thick layer of filler on the panel so i had to knock down just a minimal amount of filler so I started out with 80 grit. And I normally finish off with 180 which is suitable for high build primer.
The fact that the car was so badly damaged to start with has almost disappeared. It's looking like it just needed the paintwork touched up now. Interesting tool that you made for the body lines. I'll keep that one in mind in case I need to do a repair like that. Your weather should be getting warmer now that you are in spring. How's the summer there? We have fall here now, but a lot of overcast weather with light showers and occasional rain. We'll be experiencing drier, but colder weather soon. Stay safe in this crisis and I'll look forward to your next video.
It's definitely warming up, I can finally ditch my hat :) Summers here are pretty good, it doesn't get too hot since we're so close to the coast which is nice ! Hope it won't get too cold too fast down under, stay warm and safe my friend !!! 👍
Hello friend, I am about to start my spotter, but I have a question, does the voltage and amperage of this machine not damage the electrical parts of the cars to be repaired?.. thanks and best regards
Electrical parts of the car will not get damaged, but if you are concerned you can alway unplug the car battery. Just think about it as if you were using a welder to weld something on the car.
Good job done with tools but it better to wash cars before work on them to avoid contamination which is the number one problem in paintjobs. And do not Drink and Drive please for your and other healths please😉.My english is probably not good but you can get the idea.
Drinking and driving scene was just a joke.. I don't drink... I do clean the surface as much as I possibly can, so far I've had some good luck with all of the painting that I've done 👍
I remember the old days when i was doing body work outside , nice work ! Filler is expensive in US , in Romania 1 kg is 15 usd , a decent brand ! Check my Diy 6 euro Tram gauge video ! Keep the videos coming !
@@fix206 Amazing! I love how you make tools, especially from old microwaves! Do you service SRS modules? I saw your other video but I am not that comfortable pulling circuit boards apart, I am local to Seattle.
Hey i need some help working on a 2013 Dodge Charger. Driverside seat and curtain airbags went off. I have replaced them but have not cleared the codes yet. If i hook the battery up without clearing the airbag codes will the new airbags explode and go off? Do i also need to replace the airbag sensor that goes to those airbags? They are not damaged.
The only time airbag sensors need to be replaced as if they were physically damaged in the accident, so if the sensor is not broken in anyway then it should work just fine. And don't worry, you're a new airbags will not go off just because the SRS module has not been reset
Sorry man, I only work on my own cars.... Some of my projects been on the back burner for couple of years and haven't been able to get to them due to time constraints... Last thing I need is another project, hope you understand
LOL... I feel hella guilty for not posting for a while. I've been working on couple of projects and also been filming them at the same time. Hopefully I'll have a couple of vids to release before long... Thanks for reaching out man 👍👍👍
GREAT WAY TO GET ARRESTED FOR DRUNK OR IMPAIRED DRIVING. NEVER HAVE ONE FOR THE ROAD.EVEN IF YOU ARE JOKING BECAUSE BASED ON WHAT I SEE YOU ARE SENDING THE WRONG MESSAGE TO KIDS AND ADULTS!!!!!!!!!!!! EVEN ONE DRINK GETS YOU ARRESTED IN NY AND IF YOU HIT AND KILL SOMEONE YOU WILL BE IN JAIL FOR A VERY LONG TIME!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty sure that it was obvious that it was a joke, while looking at my stats on the channel I know that I don't have any viewers under 18 years of age. And I'm quite certain that no one's gonna get drunk and go driving just because they watched one of my videos
@@fix206 dude you need to remove that scene from your video. you are a bad influence on adults and kids alike. you have no clue who is watching your videos.
I actually started my channel by fixing that speed3 after I got carjacked and thief got away with my Speed3 but not before he side swiped a pole that resulted in the 2 doors and part of the quarter panel needing to be replaced. If you go through my videos and scroll all the way to the bottom of the list, you'll see how the channel got started with the Mazda repair/paint videos...
I will be doing a video pretty soon where I will reverse engineer that entire puller... If I'm successful I might just start making and selling them :-)
The brand that I'm using is Keystone automotive, but from what I've heard it's a RageGold filler that ships in Keystone cans and is a bit cheaper then actual RageGold
Hey fix206! You fixed my tahoe cluster a few months back. Trying to figure out how to get a hold of you again so you can do another cluster 2003 envoy Thanks!! Jeremy
Yep I can sure fix the Envoy cluster... I don't want to post phone number on here but you can find my add on your local craigslist, just type in GM cluster and you'll see the add. My phone number is going to be in there as well... Give me a ring... Cheers !!
I built the spotter myself... I did a very detailed video on the build process here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j6UgtCN5vzU.html
Hey man amazing work on this car honestly all your videos are very helpful. Please share with us the paint process how to prepare the surface. How to aply primer, color and clear.thanked
I have a question related to an older video. What thickness of plate and tube did you use to make the red arms that you attached to your frame machine? It is the last material that I need to purchase to build my frame machine. Thanks in advance.
I’m so glad I’ve found your channel buddy!!..everything that has to do with body work and you teach us how to make many of the tools!!..thanks so much !!..time to binge watch you channel 👍🏻👍🏻..
Welcome aboard brother! I got alot more how to vids in the works, I try to be more detailed about the process in later videos. Hopefully you can learn a thing or two, after all that is my whole intent for this channel 👍
You do what you gotta do brother... Sometimes we have to jump over hurdles to get 'er done. As long as end result looks good then that's all that matters !!!
@@fix206 true, never been good at body work, but so far one side done and it looks great. Quarter panel rust of the Midwest don't think it's the last time I'll be dealing with it.
@@NWCI Oh,... Hate the rust, it's such a pain in the a$$... The key here is to just take your time and don't rush, and I'm sure the end result will look great !!! Cheers
That was a joke, I actually don't drink. And it was just water in the bottle. Watched a movie with a similar scene the night before I filmed it and told my son that I would reference the scene from the movie in my vid just for fun 😆
@@fix206 I was sure that was a joke, but some viewers may have taken it the wrong way. Like you, I also don't drink alcohol. Can't see any point to it, just a waste of money and a danger to your health. Here in Australia, they've had to put limits on alcohol sales, because they are concerned about people drinking too much while they are at home. It's good that you have a secure job with the trucking business, as that's an essential service.
Yep people still need to get their goods delivered, and I make sure that that happens and on time! Alcohol was never my thing, just thought I'd inject some humor into the vid... Guess I just get bored since there isn't much going on while most folks are on a lockdown :(
One of these days when I'll be replacing a piece of glass in one of the vehicles that I'll be working on I will show off all of the tools necessary for the job and also the process
In the UK u pol primer 1.25 l kit £20 Solvent base coat £32 per litre (plus 50 percent reducer) You paid $114 ??? Need to find some one else. We keep watching))
Wow I need to move to UK :))) There are cheaper primer/base coat options out there, but I like using UPOL primer, it's a bit more expensive then some other primers, but I really like the way it builds and also the way it sands... Same goes for the base coat, there are cheaper options but this particular brand that I use has better color match and also the coverage is real good, I have used other cheaper brands in the past and have found the color to be off more than I wanted it to be and also sometimes it would take 3 - 4 coats in order to cover up the lighter primer underneath and what not... But the kicker is, if I would've gone to another paint store just down the street then for the same amount of materials that I picked up I would be shelling out $300 - $400 😱🥺
@@fix206 I use Octoral basecoat ,have tried kapci and it's shite. The best one Ive used it was Glasurit(WATER) I know we could of use our russian language to communicate but to support your channel we will keep it original !! Just out of interest, Why Honda's Accord ,why old cars?. You just practice and thinking to do better cars in the future? I'm trying to work out how to adapt my garage to be able to pull out dented car bodies mainly not the frames to avoid having to use doser(too big to store it). Looking for something I can fit in to the concrete floor to be able to hook of it and pull the car with hydraulic. Anyone with any ideas and help would be welcomed.
I have never heard of Octoral or Kapci... Must be a European brand? Base coat that is commonly used in U.S. is PPG and Dupont but both are pretty expensive options, I used to use Matrix brand for sometime, but then they raised their prices. So now I use Perfectcoat which is produced by Sikkens. Perfectcoat isn't all that cheap but quality is real good, I like spraying it. This Acura isn't too old, it's 2014 model with low miles. I got a pretty good deal on it so I couldn't pass it up. I usually don't pick up cars that are too new or that are real expensive, most cars that I buy, I get from the insurance auto auction. That means that all of these cars had been deemed as a total loss by the insurance company. Therefore when I go to sell them I normally target a buyer that would have enough cash on hand to buy the car out right. Because once you get into newer, more expensive vehicles, most people don't have enough funds on hand to cover the purchase so they have to get a loan through the bank and banks here don't like to loan money on cars that had been previously totaled out by the insurance company. Therefore selling newer/more expensive cars is much more difficult than slightly older/less expensive ones. As far as making pulls in the garage, you can just put some anchor pots into the floor and use a rollaway tower. I ended up just building myself a portable Frame rack that I can tip on its side and put it up against the wall once I'm done using it. It's about 10 feet long but the thickness of it is only 5 inches so once it's up against the wall it's not taking up any space at all. Here is the link to the video where I built it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-krCki0BT8Fw.html
yeah ,I've seen your Doser frame ,that's too much work ,I don't want to think about how long it took ya from planning it all, getting materials an actually building it, I'm looking in to something like that (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uZyjMv85dG8.html) when you done with it just put it away so you don't see it))) Copart mate, I do the same but just as a hobby . And you are right about getting a cheaper cars so people can buy it, had the same problemmo with selling it .but older cars have so many problems collected over the years and you there to solve it. you got it with damage there but after inspection you have all car with bit here and there newer cars got totalled with lighter damage so easier to repair but harder to sell . need to make this spotter tool from mastic gun))) good luck Boss
Indeed, getting my frame rack from an idea to finished product took me close to six months. But I had a vision of what I wanted and I was determined to get it done. Just as yourself I do this as a hobby, I do have a day job where I manage a trucking company and I work on cars in my spare time. It keeps me busy and also provides a source of side income. I normally buy Japanese cars that are between 4-7 years old, also I make sure that whatever I buy has lower miles. Japanese cars are reliable, everybody knows that and if you put lower mileage in that equation then it makes the sale that much easier :-) Сам то откуда родом? Как давно живёшь в Англии?
Personally I am not a fan of that company... They do make make nice tools, but those tools are waaay overpriced...I got all of the clamps that I need, and I bet that the price I paid for all 5 of them would only cover the purchase of just one "MoClamp" clamp. And I also got a much better option then the weld-on tabs. If you go couple of videos back on my channel you'll see my Spotter tool that I built in action, I used it to raise the entire "dogleg" on this Acura.
To what extent? I do have a video of my pulling the entire front end of the car (that consists of both frame rails and core support) back into its original position on my homemade frame rack. Here is a link to that vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S9A6gLV9EbE.html
Pretty sure I prepped everything correctly, been doing this for over 20 years, haven't had any body filler, primer, base or clear peel off ever. You're the cars that I've done belonged to a family members. They still own those vehicles and years later everything is still fine
Thank you, I just wanted to show that a regular guy with some basic tools can perform a lot of these repairs in his driveway, without having to spend thousands of dollars by having a body shop do it for them
@@fix206 They sure can, I have been restoring cars and trucks as a hobby for over 40 years in my driveway. I have also done many custom paint jobs right here too, worth tens of thousands of dollars. You can do anything you want to in your driveway. Just have to get out there and do it! I made my own fully enclosed 12 x 24 paint booth with 2 easy ups with sidewalls! I used a big plastic tarp from harborfreight for the floor when I paint to keep from screwing up my cement driveway and eliminate the dust. It is only there when I paint. Doing that the neighbors just see the easy ups and don't have anything to complain about you working on things in your driveway. I do all my work there and can open each end to clean it out and take cars in and out etc. I set it up in front of my garage door so I have access to everything in the garage too, where I keep all my tools and parts locked up. If people think a little they can do all this and keep the worst neighbors happy too, if you have problems in your neighborhood. No one bothers me I have owned this house for 50 years. We are on a very private and quiet street and I still don't bother anyone. It is a great hobby to have that makes you money while also giving you a great feeling when you finish restoring a car and you take it out for a drive and many people give you the thumbs up! That is the most fulfilling part for me. I look at a project car and can see it done in my mind, the car is like a blank canvas that I want to turn into a fine piece of art. Those compliments mean more than anything! People can make some good money in their driveway with this as a hobby. I have a corvette I have been doing for a couple years when I am out of things to do it is always there. It is ready for paint and reassembly now. a lot of work but it will be amazing when done. Right now I am doing a lincoln, a cadi, a Mercedes and a chevy truck. 2 are about done. It gives me a chance to find good deals on the parts I want by taking my time and having other things to do while waiting. I have thought about putting all this on video and loading it on youtube, but I get started and don't want to take the time to do all the video work too. I commend you for having the patience to do that. Thanks again!
@@aicsusa I can relate to what you have said in so many ways. Just like you I keep my tools in the garage and all my work outside, I like the fresh air and the daylight is the best kind of light there is as far as I am concerned. I have lived in my house for 15 years and I am in good standing with all of my neighbors, so none of them complain when I work outside. I got a 48 Chevy five window truck that I've been gathering parts for the past 4 years that I'm thinking about started working on in the next month or so. I have pictured the end result in my head 1000 times, can't wait for it to be done so I can start enjoying it :-)
@@fix206 Are you my long lost son? LOL! My kids and grandkids are not interested in cars. Although I have a house flipping business I have had for 45 years and my son did take it over for a while until got was set up for life then he decided he didn't want to do real estate anymore, he became a school teacher! My daughter has a master's in nursing, runs a nursing staff at a new hospital by them and is working on her doctorate. All the grandkids are in to typical sports. My grandson went to the little league playoffs last year and was the best hitter on the team. They hope to be in the world series this year but tryouts are canceled for now. Who knows what will happen with that this year with the Kung flu (covid19) going around! This is at least safe for us to do while staying at home too! Another advantage of this hobby! I take care of my elderly father and have to keep a close eye on him so it is working out even better for me now. I retire a few years ago and have a great management staff taking care of my businesses so I am enjoying life right now doing this until my father is gone then I am out of this country and traveling. Then it is goodbye to Los Angeles and the USA where I was born raised and live most of my life and bye to Las Vegas where I have also lived and have many businesses for decades. I am heading to Asia for some tropical island living for the rest of my life! It will be due time to enjoy my life! Best of luck to you it seems like you really enjoy this too. Take care and God bless you all!
Another sorry ass hater! Why don't you show us your videos, huh?? He's showing you how to fix cars on your driveway and how to build expensive tools for cheap but you had to come here and hate on it!
Yes it would have been for sure much easier but if you watch the first video of this project, I brought up this exact point. But I just wanted to show folks that even a heavily damaged fender such as this one could still be repaired
