I was a natural competitive bodybuilder for a couple of years back in the early 1990s. ( BTW i am a woman) the posing routines and mandatory poses practice is a big part of training as you come close to competition, the diet coupled with the posing practice is how you get to isolate and get deeper separations. Because I was not taking drugs I had to always be focused on keeping muscle tension at all times so I looked like I was as jacked as the drugged ones. hahaha one never does a {gun show bicep pose without flexing the quads and everything else!) it becomes a neuromuscular response. Even now at 62, if I flex my arms, I stand with my left leg out to the side, trying separate the quads..... can't unlearn it! Even though I am not as crazy lean as then, I can still flex them!

I had some problems with the kettlebell clean, too and what really helped me was your article Champion of the Clean(really one of your best articles i’ve read) and the cue to put one hand on the opposite quad helped me a lot with dealing with the „loud elbows“ that and learning to zip the bell upwards instead of forwards

These longform videos are much more convenient to watch than the cutup ones you used to do.

Thank you for answering my questions. Just to clear any confusion I follow the 4th week deadlift just as prescribed. What I meant by deload is after every cycle your training max for the lower body lifts increases by 10 pounds and it ended up catching up with me. However, after my 4th cycle I retested my maxes and the numbers I use now are scaled back. Another caveat is I've only been using the original variation of 5/3/1 and I might just need to switch to a template of his with a little more volume. With that being said I really like the recommendation you made and I'll do that after I finish my current cycle. Front squats are also a good idea as I already do them as supplemental work. Thank you so much again for your insight, and I can't wait to get a physical copy of the easy strength omnibook. Happy holidays coach!

I love 5/3/1. I would say to the guy with the 5/3/1 question that he should read and try the variations in 'Beyond 5/3/1'.

At your kid's age my daughter would throw med balls and I taught her the KB clean and press. They are not that technical and just fun. This would hold her interest for a few minutes and she probability got something out of it. So she had fun and at 11 started training more regularly. ps she started with a 15lb

When you tell it is a swing , you want to emphasize whipping hip hinge motion, instead of bringing shoulders up like in O lifting clean? I was thinking what is a difference, and main difference I see is force directionality. In swing it is forward and in clean it is up (as we redirect it using our elbows). Do you agree with that ?
@DanJohnStrengthCoach

Hinge-plank. Anything else is crap, I think.So, yes, I agree with you.

Dear, Dan Jhon !!! Good Afternoon !! I train 5x 5 , 3 x a week ( squat, hinge, pull, push and carry ). In view of this, is it possible, for example, in the movement of pulling the training to have 3 sets of pullups and 2 of rowing and in the movement of pushing to have 3 sets of military press and 2 of dips ? Greetings !!! 👍💪👊🤝
