Yea they all have their place otherwise they wouldn’t exist. If you have shit knees for example, wraps or compression sleeves might not be such a bad idea. It’s when people are using accessories without considering if they really need to/should use them where it becomes a bit of a laugh.

If you're just starting out and it's more comfortable for you don't be afraid to use gloves. In the beginning I hated the feeling of the bar and the calluses that would form on my hands. I found I was focusing more on the unpleasant feeling than my form or mind-muscle connection. But once I started wearing gloves lifting became comfortable and I was able to focus more. I used them for years until going without didn't really bother me anymore.
@l.palacio9076
@l.palacio9076 3 месяца назад
But I think creating some calluses with lighter weight is better than building then with heavier weight lol. Your hands will get tougher together with your progression, like the joints. And honestly is not that bad, the worst part is the first 2 to 3 weeks
@justmemin7005
@justmemin7005 3 месяца назад
Gloves are underrated. Honestly, for the first few months you really should use your hands only and take care of of them by regularly moisturizing them and shaving off blisters and PAINFUL calluses, not the good ones. But occasionally if youre having pain or just cant hold on for too long because of pain (not grip) using gloves can help your hands keep nice and soft without compromising the lift. Though, I wouldn't use them all the time, just whenever the pain gets too much, and you haven't taken care of your hands in a while.

One very underestimated use of straps if for any leg exercises where you are using dumbbells like lounges or Bulgarian split squats. It allows you to simply not think about holding weight, even if you use two small 15-20kg dumbbells it might look weird but the ability to fully focus on leg/core work during those exercises is super worth it

I must say, I'm very disappointed. I bought the Upper Lower training plan. I don't understand the good reviews, might be fake ones. I love the youtube channel, but the training plans are just lazy work. We don't have real exercise selection, there is WAY TOO MUCH exercise in these. 11 exercise in ONE upper day, WTF ?! Then as I said it's just lazy work, no pictures, no guidelines, no rest time nothing. Also i tried to post a negative review because I litterally had an e-mail asking me to review it "PLEASE", and I can't find my review. I genuinely hope you aren't faking good reviews. I love your youtube channel but this is just insane. Also is the discord gone ? I can't find it anywhere.

@@All_About_the_Benjaminsbuying the book just financially supports Rippetoe (i own a copy myself and thats the only reason i really bought it). Bench, squat, deadlift, (overhead) press, clean, row. Add 5 lbs a week, on sets of 5, to the bar until you cant, and then you start messing with rep numbers and trying to increase those when the margins close. Right now im tracking my max on 1,2,3,4,5 reps and trying to increase one of those maxes every workout (because i cant just add 5 lbs to the bar anymore).

I’m by no means a pro at the gym, but I’m there 5 days a week and am definitely pulling the heavier weights. In addition to this video there is something that 90% of people don’t do these days: sweating! I will use, and recommend wrist bands till the day that I die. They’re not only good for stability, but also great sweatbands.

I used to use gloves during the first few months because whenever I wanted to do deadlifts (it's my favourite exercise). My skin would just peel off and my hands would be in immense throbbing pain. One time I tried to go for a PR and the peeled skin on my calluses bled out. Now it's doing much better because i've been exercising more with hangs so that my hands aren't as sensitive, so nowadays I barely use my gloves anymore, unless I'm going for a massive PR. like heat and cold touch I can feel extremely well, which isn't nice when working in a kitchen.

5:36 totally disagree with you here, if you don't wear gloves your hands will be rough, which a lot of girls hate when you hold their hands. Literally every girl I've been with has mentioned that to me, until one of my girlfriends bought me some gloves and since then I've never stopped wearing them. It not only avoids the problem of blisters and sores on the palms, but also helps you to better grip the dumbbells.

@roebuckmckinney
@roebuckmckinney 2 месяца назад
I know this is a channel for beginners, and I didn't use a belt myself for a long time, so I don't totally disagree with the advice on belts. I still don't wear one unless I'm going above 90% of my max on deadlifts. But for squats, they're a game changer, even at lower percentages or RPEs. Once you know how to use a belt properly and your squat technique is solid, it adds so much stability for higher rep squats that you might as well be using a leg press. Again, I don't use it on every set, and you're not going to need one in your first couple years of training, but if you're taking things into 8 plus reps, you can blow up your legs and glutes without exhausting your low back.

It would've been nice if you went over lifting grips like Versa Gripps and Cobra Grips. While costlier than traditional lifting straps, they can perform better, especially for machine and cable exercises. You can't wrap a strap around a D handle or rope with lifting straps. For some machines, the surface of the handle is hard to wrap around with lifting straps. That's where the lifting grips come in.

While I agree that a belt, and wrist wraps aren't needed right when you start, I do say a belt is extremely useful as you keep pushing your limits. I was stuck at like a 225lb squat, maybe slightly more. But it was stressful on my lower back (I've had 3 spinal fusions) I added a belt instantly shot up my squat to 275lbs, and within 8 months my squat was over 400lbs. My beltless squat also increased greatly easily able to go over 300lbs. It's a tool not a crutch, and bracing against it also activates more of your core muscles. Wrist wraps are fine after you get a bit stronger, no reason not to add some support to them to reduce stress on the joints when you start getting heavier and heavier weights on the bar. For me the only gym accessories I think are needed, is a good Belt, Straps, and wrist wraps. Everything else is fluff. But beginners just need to get their ass in the gym and start putting in the work.

time to drop a hot take: lifting straps are pointless for 90% of gym goers. Training my grip strength by not using them on pulling motions lets me be more capable outside the gym and helps me in daily tasks. I hold expensive cameras and race cars consistently so a weak grip strength can be the difference between a perfect drift and a tow truck call, or an excellent photo compared to dropping my $5000 camera. I’d highly recommend working your grip strength to the point it’s no longer a limiting factor if you’d like to look and be strong

Very good things to train your upper body, my gym has the yellow suspension system thingy which si similar and it really does help a ton in upper body movements. They also really train your stabilisation strenght, like how well you can keep still and prevent yourself from wobbling, which is very important. And you can also use them to do basically any bodyweight upper body exercise, and you really have a good stretch basic exercises like pushups, inverted rows, pull ups, dips and pike pushups and you can also use them to do isolation exercises like chest flies, rear delt rows, bicep curls, pelican curls which is so fucking good for your biceps it is crazy, tricep extensions and so much more. Then you can also practice calisthenics skills and other variations if you really are that guy or even add a weight vest to the mix.
