Leadership for Boeing’s largest labor union are calling for a raise as they head to the bargaining table.
Friday marks the start of the first full negotiations between Boeing and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in 16 years and this time, workers said they have the upper hand. The union represents approximately 32,000 workers.
IMA District 751 President Jon Holden said workers are calling for a 40% pay increase over the next three-to-four years.
“I think we believe in ourselves and there is no Boeing company without us and we have what it takes to build this company to the level it was and that’s what our focus will be going forward,” Holden said.

My goodness the level ignorance You people have no idea what Boeings profit margins actually look like so quit talking like you know what they can and cannot afford to pay the people working on the front line taking on the risk and hazard of the job to build the planes to begin with.

The people earning all those big bucks are doing it to get a profit. The people demanding to be paid are the ones who actually need money. Pay the workers. PAY THE WORKERS!!! PAY THE WORKERS!!! PAY THE WORKERS!!!

Corporations that raised prices by 40% on everything and pay workers the same. We're told to accept inflation but somehow corporations seem to lose the extra revenue they made by raising prices 🤔 they should look for they money they need to pay workers in the lining of executive pockets. It is all there. 40%.
@The6th03

That would be counterproductive: raising salaries by 40% but also increasing prices by 40% would defeat the purpose of raising prices. Speaking statistically

It's 40 % over 4 years, not all at once. Considering it's been 16 years since they last negotiated, I'd say that's more than fair.

For anyone criticizing the size the wage increase they’re asking for, you clearly do not understand the difference between working to make a big Mac and making a Boeing 737. For Christ sake. They’re not paid enough for the hazards and risk work they’re doing. Someone at McDonald’s gets your order wrong it’s no end of the world, but someone does their job wrong at Boeing, 100’s of people could die. Higher risk of work means higher pay. The more complicated the job, the higher the pay. Meanwhile Boeing is making their employs tote their bottom line salary so they can save a buck and asking them to produce more and more bigmacs- i mean planes-more planes at the cost of quality and safety it’s disgusting and they need to pay.

40% or more as most workers who are not full pay are making less than fast food workers. Been stuck in a bad contract for 10 years with no ability to negotiate. Until now. Starting pay is around 21$ an hour for mechanics. This is a skilled position. 40% would be starting pay for a skilled position being around 30$ to start. That's not much of bump for a skilled position who actually build these planes.

For starters it's 40% over a 4 year agreement. Secondly, they haven't been able to negotiate anything for more than a decade so pay that fell behind fell further behind. The management always got their raises and bonuses and it was their greed in pushing employees to violate regulatoins, working them to death that caused this.

Too ironic, it was one or more IAM that screwed up the MED plug to begin with by per performing undocumented rework by opening and closing the plug without the four bolts. They cannot pin that on management since they not allowed to touch the hardware.

And why do you think they did that. My guess is they were pushed or essentially threatened to "just get it done." However in this case the paperwork was done and was turned over to the FBI by?...........not management, an employee who knew it was the right thing to do.

With Boeings recent QC problems asking for a huge raise is not a good look for the union.
@ClintonC8806
@ClintonC8806 4 месяца назад
QC is on the the Leadership. Not the mechanics. We follow the blueprints, and any revisions. We don't make those. Remember Boeing uses 3rd party when they used to only do in house. 3rd party outsourcing work is a major issue.
@CyberRonin47
@CyberRonin47 Месяц назад
It's 40% over 4 years. And there's been no raises other than piddly little cola raises for the last 16 years. And part of Boeings problem is retentionof quality people. It takes 6 years to finally reach the top of your scale. But it's not spread evenly, in fact, you struggle quite a bit. It starts at $21 or $22 an hour. Then you get 50 cents every 6 months for 6 years. Then at the very end you get a big boost, but you'll be making less than $30 for 6 straight years. Boeing's hope was that you wouldn't wait that long and leave therefore never maxing out, and it worked. What they didn't count on was the fact that people are paid enough to give a rip, the experienced people leave or retire and you're left with people who don't understand the gravity of their work.

I'm generally pro-union, but obviously some union leaderships are prone abuse of power = excessive demands that seriously weaken the company they are a part of. A 40% pay raise is a good example of union leadership gone mad. Boeing is a great company with (statistically) an excellent safety record, but if the union is allowed to proceed making destructive demands, that solid reputation is at stake. I would encourage Boeing to find other labor locations where the workforce isn't suffering from a sense of entitlement.
@ClintonC8806
@ClintonC8806 4 месяца назад
You should look at what they pay before you look at %. In WA they start around 21$ an hour for a mechanic in a skilled position at this moment. So 40% is nothing really. If you look at the industry Boeing has fallen behind in pay big time. All because of a 10 year non adjustable contract put in place. Until this year. No real change in pay since 2014. Starting was 19$ an hour then for a skilled position.

@@ClintonC8806 According to Indeed, the average hourly pay for an aircraft mechanic in Washington State is $34.70. However, the average hourly pay for an aircraft mechanic in Seattle, Washington is $40.17 as of February 27, 2024. Starting at $21/hour is in alignment with most other skilled trades, where the inexperienced worker receives about 30% less than an experienced tradesman. A 40% increase would place the average pay at about $56/hour, a ridiculous wage relative to similar trades, e.g., auto mechanic makes about $27/hour average. The Boeing unions are knowingly destroying the company.
