It's not a competition, that ended 5 years ago. Starliner can only launch on the already contracted flights - the Atlas rockets required have been put aside and there are no more. And nobody is funding the work for it to be launched on any other rocket. Meanwhile SpaceX can easily launch as often as they wish - and are actively trying to secure commercial customers.

How much does it cost per launch for Boeing? It’s not competition if Boeing goes bankrupt after a few launches.

The same CEO is in charge. Due to extream cost over runs, and that this is not a cost plus contract, they don't want to do it. They got TWICE as much money to make this, and it has had nothing but issues the entire time.

That Boeing was the supposed low-cost, low-risk option while getting a significantly higher budget is something not talked about enough. Elon and Co. are typically late on projects but from cars to spacecraft they are amazing and best in class on safety/reliability. Today, Boeing doesn’t deserve any assumptions of quality or reliability and needs smaller contracts to re-build confidence over time, IMO. (I love SpaceX but agree even they need competition)

There is, the Starliner is supposed to be able to do re-boost for the space station, Dragon can't do that. Though at this rate I don't think we will see another Starliner launch for a long time after thrusters malfunctioned yet again and helium leaks led to systems on the ship needing to be shut down. Starliner has been an utter disaster for NASA and Boeing and a total waste of tax payer money.

Dragon looks like SpaceX hired a designer with a brief of "Make it simple to use, with nothing for the suits to catch or be cut on". It looks clean and safe, and not like a teenage kids bedroom version of a space capsule.

In construction insider good old boy arrangements make it much easier for well connected companies to operate. The reality is new unexperenced contractors often are incapable of delivering a product. However new competent companies like Space X can be burdened to the point of failure.

Why does the inside of the Starliner look like a cheap '90's SciFi film set built with '70's panels? Heck, pause at the one minute twenty seconds mark, and you can see a crack in the underside of the control interface module! And then there's all the straps and cables running around the place making it look more like a budget camping trip then a spacecraft. There's a ton of stuff exposed that suits could catch on. It doesn't look like NASA has gotten much return on the 4.3Billion contract and 1.2Billon in over-run costs. That's 5.5 Billion US dollars in to Boeing's bank accounts, for a vehicle that should have been in service more then two years ago, and won't be ready to be regularly carrying passengers for at least another year.
