Easy to get bogged in the Flinders Ranges after a rain event. I got bogged there a few weeks back. Your video shows the benefit of going in a party rather than solo (which I was). The trick is not to panic and so dig yourself in deeper.

Great video. We did the Flinders Ranges in early May and were totally blown away. The Oodnadatta Track opened just as we left Alpana Station so we managed to get through it. A great experience topped off by a flight over Lake Eyre to see it with water in it. Look forward to following your travels.

Another option to go for as a power generator is a wind generator to keep it as green as you can (apart from the fact you are towing a caravan and getting around 30L per 100 K, haha) and light weight, they work on a zephyr of a breeze. "usually" there is a breeze in the afternoon in the bush/outback and if its storming you still have power generation night or day. Hate being near those petrol genies when one is trying to enjoy the serenity...

Great videos. Love being able to travel with you in my chair I rarely get to leave so thank you for your videos. I have a suggestion for your camera work. Not sure what you are using for video but if it able to have filters attached maybe invest in what is called a CIRCULAR polarizing filter that screws onto the front of the lens. These are also great for your Canon EOS DSR camera. It will enhance colours and reduce glare or white out in backgrounds. Also for your Canon on front of the filter you can apply a UV filter to protect the lens and cut glare.

When you got bogged, the first thing I thought was, why don't you use your Maxtrax? 🙂 As for getting a Gennie, I mentioned that in one of your early videos but your weight limitations prevented you getting one. I had the same problem as you guys. I'm only in a camper trailer but the 3 X AMG batteries were not cutting it, so many cloudy days, more than I planned for. So replaced them with 3 X 100amp lithium batteries, not the over the top costly one's, VoltaX $450 each, plus a lithium charger and boy it's great. I do have a 1KW genny, but hate running that, plus it's getting old, hard to start, needs a new pull cord, so it's going and don't want to new one. But in your case a Kings genny could be a good idea, but for me, would go for a battery upgrade.

more solar panels $$$ more solar panels %%% - yup a generator will do it too $$$, but big bang for the buck A 2KVA Honda inverter generator ( or similar size) is a good start - this will run a minimum kitchen say 1400W/1500W cooktop / kettle + aat least a 50A 240V / 12 charger into the lithium battery (dont exceed the recomended charge current for your particular battery.) - If you can cook / make coffie when the generator is on and the battery is charging at the same time, you will minimise the runtime of the generator (save fuel) - dont muck about with small 240V chargers that take overnight when you are on a generator

The cheaper way would be a generator. But thats just another item adding to your weight. And you have to carry extra fuel. What onboard dc/dc charger do you have? How many amps is it? Is it utilising the maximum output of your current solar panels? Ideally bigger or more batteries and solar panels will be the way. But can be very expensive.

All enerdrive gear in the van, 40amp dcdc but definitely not getting 40amp in through solar. Extra Battery/solar is 100% the way we would have liked to go but the budget just wasn’t there for it, so we got a genie and it gets us out of trouble when we need it! Cheers!
