Great to see you back working on the old sleds ! I Bought a 94 Indy Lite this summer. I went over most of it , using a lot of your videos as a guide. It's running great now.I can't wait to see this series. Mark
+Zac Wadholm Hey thanks for watching, I try to do everything, there are a lot of people who want the product vids and new stuff, and the ricky bobby louie, and the jet engine, and the ford, and the camp, and the property.....lots to do!!
I was a bit harsh on my criticism i'm sure quite a few people enjoy the product reviews but there so frequent that i'd like to see the enticer! I have a few projects of my own and don't get me wrong i'm on the edge of too many i'm headed out to Waconia (If you've never been go next year an absolute blast) in 2 weeks from now and a buddy an I spent the last month preparing our sleds I got my 76 jag3000 340 (F/A) completely ready and at the begining of December we brought back to life a 97 indy 500 (Totally stuck bearings and now it runs like a champ!) I have an 1980 arctic cat kitty cat with a seat that I need to reupholster and i gotta check the bearings on my trailer. either way love the videos keep on riding and doing these awesome builds!
+PowerModz There is no doubt though that what made your channel popular is the sled builds. Nothing wrong with branching out but don't forget about your bread and butter...I know there is some final Elan Restoration video just begging to be edited.
I just bought my son 96 Polaris indy 500 from fb it's alright until warms up then it loses power your videos are very helpful thanx a lot you just save me a lot money from going into the shop
hey louie had a 340 same motor just 2008 i noticed the clutch spring would sometimes get hung up but not really bad just needs anew spring and the bogey wheels will break off so make sure you do bearings but all around that sled is boggey and slow off the start but once it gets up to speed there fun keep making the vids thanks
I like the video, lots of info. I've seen this too many times, poor running sled, same sound and boggy situation. With my limited budget I have to decide how much to put in a sled. The prices of older sleds have come down a bit the past few years. Now I'm less up for doing the work - prefer to find a low mileage sled and do some minor maintenance rather than replace a lot of things and spend money, makes resale value hard to recoup too. That's just me, limited funds and time to work on sleds. By default I look for low mileage sleds and will pass on anything that needs lots of work.
Dude I had a boggy Yamaha Phazer 2..... had a mechanic spend over 12 hours on it .good thing he's a friend of mine pay them in beer and beef. I finally I thought to myself it's getting too much oil in the combustion chamber cut the oil injection system out mix the gas the thing runs like Jack the Bear now spectacular!
Wish I had seen this video sooner! I've fittled with my fuel to air... to try and help the issue then next weekend found out my clutch was stuck shut.. took it apart cleaned it and I'm installing it tomorrow ... then i'm sure I will have to re adjust the air/fuel
One thing i found with older sleds is the crank seals are usually bad. Once the engine is hot they'll loose power and bog until it gets into a higher rpm range. Spark plug color will reflect this.
I had serious bogging and seemed like a lack of fuel. Cleaned carbs etc. It turns out it was just the fuel pick up line inside the tank. It totally rotted and finally fell off! Replaced and my 2000 500 classic indy runs like a dream
my kid has 1990 340 Indy asport... runs if u don't put weight on it.. I'm put top end in too.. compression was 118. 119.. fun little sleds.. I rode this one three years ago when I wrecked my xc700..
I've been looking for one of these with a blown motor for my version of a timber sled. Indy Lite 340 chassis, '93 or newer with the chain case. Run a touring sled rear skid with a 136x 1" track. Power it with the Polaris Fuji 550 fan, preferably one new enough ('04 or so?) to have electronic reverse. I want a low slung seat for one knee or stand up riding, but need storage under the seat for a case of beer. Drop the gearing so max speed comes out around 60, reinforce the tunnel a bit for a heavy duty hitch and a rack.....
problem that i run into a lot is a clogged exhaust pipe, and ports (some think more oil is better) also poorly maintained crank seals can tear or pop out.
A fresh bore with new pistons defiantly won't hurt it any. I wouldn't bypass the oil injection, just make sure it's adjusted right, those old Polaris seem to get a little extra slobbery with their oil when they get a bunch of miles on them. Gotta remember it is only a piston port 340 after all haha
Also check your kill switch , if its boggy and back firing it could be that , Easy way to check is pull the black single wire from the coil and see if it runs better if so the switch is bad or your throttle cables are not adjusted correctly .
When, oh When will we see another installment of the Boggy Snowmobile Problems and fixes Ep #XX series?. I have a 1994 Indy Lite and am looking forward to some more information and insights along with all the show and tell of the maintenance. OR maybe you sold it due to the unforeseen broken idler wheel mount?
yeah bad crank seals loose head bolts dirty carbs Bad rings loose fuel lines even bad intakle gaskets. ... But bottom line the old girl is still runnin! ! leave it alone luey leave it alone! and Drive the PISS outta it ha! :) great vid
+PowerModz Hey there Louis just wondering how often you will be posting this series because i feel this could help me with my sled (1993 Polaris indy 500 efi (so no carbs) sks) really nice sled! I had to rebuild the motor (both top and bottom ends) and is just slowly being broken in right now but i still fell that it is a little bit boggy. We do have extra oil in the gas as an extra lubricant while its being broken in and it has a new primary clutch as well but i still think it could perform better than what it is, so i want to take a look at your videos here and see what could possibly be wrong. Anything you suggest???
+PowerModz have you ever tested ggb mountain cans? and those 340s are great. bulletproof and if you keep them rolling they will go lots of places... not much in the way of torque when u get in the deep powder tho lol
I have a 4 strike Cat T660, just replaced drive shaft bearings , it works ok but has a bad backfire when cutting off the throttle, diagnostic mode reports no problem. Magnetic speedo doesn’t work, but it is sending signal to ECU but gage says 0. Replaced spark plugs , not sure what to check next , the sled won’t go over 30 mph, just gets to max Rev and stays there work accelerate anymore than that
just picked up a Ski doo everest 340 was seized paid 40$, got it home sprayed down the cylinders with wd40 freed it up runs now but dies after a free seconds of idling thinkng carb needs cleaning or crank seals we'll see hope these give me some ideas on what it could be
definitely a great sled they're pretty quick and light as hell for when u get stuck on the trails I have one rn I'm just waiting for snow. I'm actually going to try to swap a Indy 488 in it does anyone have any tips or something tht might help make things easier ?
Many Times Mr. Mouse Makes his off season home in your Exhaust pipe rather than in the airbox, This restriction along with many years of accumulated unburnt oil and carbon can lead to poor performance and overheating exhaust. If I suspect this is the case, I remove the exhaust, build a fire big enough to swallow the whole Pipe & can, put them in and roast overnight, I let the fire go out and pipe cool then I blow it out with compressed air. the heat usually loosens up or eliminates most of the rust so a quick wire brushing and some bar-b-que black high temp paint finish the servicing.
i have a 1995 polaris indy sport 440 and the suspension has that same crack how could i fix that with out replacing the entire suspension.? and all my lights are dim. would a bad regulator cause that problem if not you know what would?
Your compression is fine as Long as it's over 110 and withIn a couple of psi of each other .Could be your floats aren't set up right or sticking. To much fuel or not enough causing the bog.
Least possible option, all though possible: My sled(1999 summit 600) was going thought plugs once or twice a week, and boggying when you pin it, bogging in snow etc, Turns out my spark plug boot was eroded, placed a new one on and it ran like new!
First time snowmobile owner. I was given a 1989 Polaris Indy Trail Deluxe and need to clean and tune it up. Can you recommend somewhere to get a repair manual?
Lmao i’ve seen this guy tear sleds apart put them back together that’s all he does and he says he’s not a mechanic so modest! 😏😂your good at what you do admit it! Haha
My sled, 2006? Not too sure but it's s Polaris Rmk trail 550, it a push button reverse when you reverse its suppose to almost shut off like and come back on into reverse, but sometimes it just shuts off. Any idea what the problem may be?
You should let the sled idle down before shutting it off.. especially if it has reed valves. What happens is you cut the spark and it keeps sucking gas in and it burns the tips of the reed valves. Just a tip.
+PowerModz yeah.. I haven't either, but i know if you shut the engine off at a high idle, it cuts the spark but keeps sucking gas in and it ignites the fuel because of the head in the cylinder and it burns off the tip of the exhaust reed valve (if it even has reed valves) just a thing I've heard...
What is the difference of spark fired combustion, or hot spot fired combustion occuring? Would normal combustion not also burn the tips off as you say?
+8v-of-fury what I'm saying is the piston is sucking in gas and isn't firing on every stroke as it would with a spark so the gas is going to build up and you'll have one big explosion. That's where backfiring comes from that you hear when you shut the thing off.
I have a 2010 rmk 800 ran fine then died and idles rough and would die. then I started it and quikly put it in reverse and ran fine for a while. then started it the next day ran for 30 seconds then died. now it runs like crap and wont idle vary long. when I rev it up it has a really rough sound not the usual braap u would expect. motor was just rebuilt so there's no issue there. what could the problem be?
I have a edge touring 550 Polaris 2004 Am only 16 but i keep having these back fires as soon as it goes forward. And sometimes it has a chance of going into reverse automatically after it back fires also it feels kinda boggy
Hey Louis I have a problem with one carb on an old 93 488 Polaris. The right side spits fuel out the opening and bogs like a sob. Cleaned the carbs, checked the fuel pump every thing looks good so far. Ya open it up n it goes but at idle not so good. Plug is wet every time I pull the one other is dry but not starving. Choke plungers worn out or not set right? I also found that the pump pulse hose is loose even with the clamp on both ends which I am going to change right away. Any ideas? Still dirty maybe?
@@PowerModzOfficial thanks for the quick reply buddy, love the channel btw 👍I just found my compression tester gonna check the numbers in a bit. That was my next guess compression lol ..we checked with out the tester and there was some not sure how much tho. Let ya know what I find thanks again!!
@@PowerModzOfficial turns out the top of the piston bad side is covered in thick carbon flashed a light in the plug hole. . Better side has about 109 and the one not firing properly has about 96/97lbs. Could the rings be gummed up n stuck? Possibly just worn out but either way I gotta pull it apart. Piston also looked decent thru carb opening
I got the same snowmobile it runs but doesn't like to stay running without your fingers on the throttle. And the clutch seems to be hesitant to kick in. Cleaned the carbs but still seems like it wants to bog
I have a 1997 polaris 600 xc triple that wont run right when it gets warmed up i go to hammer it and it bogs i went through the drive line and everything is moving properly and nothing is seized up so i went to the carbs and took them off cleaned them all and put them back together and i cant get the bowls to fill with fuel and it wont get any gas to start at all but when i take the fuel lines off that go to the carb gas comes pouring out so if gas is getting to the carb but wont fill the carb with gas do you know what my issue could be?
Where's the srv and I saw a Polaris pro s/x by the atv in the update here's my request you should do a vid on the pro and on your son's yamaha sno scoot
