Really one of Martinu's Best Noises! Beautiful playing, more "literal" and immediate than the version i grew up on, lacking some distance and poetry, but making up for it in instrumental detail, finesse and nuance. Jan Krzavy's painting is ideal to express some of the enigma of this most haunting piece. Lovely! Thank you for posting it.

Wunderschöne und spannende Interpretation dieses fein komponierten Meisterwerks mit glänzendem Klang des Soloklaviers und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen anderer Instrumente. Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön und auch mysteriös. Der geniale Solist/Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Ensemble im perfekt analysierten Tempo und mit perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Echt faszinierend!

This is quite typical of the very late Martinu, who definitely assimilated the very various influences often percepyible in his music into a quite original and convincing musical language of his own.

Fascinating suggestive music. Just a small mistake in the name of a famous Czech avant-garde painter - his surname is ZRZAVÝ (in a literal translation RED-HAIRED).
