I think some of them are supposed to depict martyrs who scoff at their punishment. I remember at least one story about a saint who complained that his "bath was too cold." Those Christian martyr stories are usually bullshit, though. Not that Christians didn't get martyred, but they weren't laughing at their tormentors from pots of boiling oil. Those stories were meant to give people courage and resolve.

@@sirmalus5153 maybe but I worry its been far more petty than that. A woman in India a few years ago was seen speaking to another man in the market place. An hour later a group of angry townspeople showed up to her location and put her in a headlock and dragged her. A day later she was buried up to her neck and had a cloth put over her and she was stoned to death. I see it all day. It's uncontrollable gossip. Its fear based. Its not a calculated move its a defense mechanism caused by insecurity. Instead of relying on merit people rely on tricks and they band together against one for the littlest things. It's the ultimate weakness. Right now a woman in Sudan, 20 years old, has been sentenced to to death by stoning, for adultery. Her name is Maryam Alsyed Tiyrab. She is alive now literally having to sit through the torment of knowing in hours or days she will be killed by fist sized rocks being thrown at her head while she is buried up to her neck. Imagine anticipating that. Right now if she is awake she has to sit there and wait to be killed violently for a non criminal activity and I would bet money that it all started with gossip.
I've always found this medieval art weird. People in it are being dealt the worst pain that a person can feel, but they almost never look like they're in agony. They either look sad, in different, or in some cases borderline happy. I remember seeing some big painting at a museum in New Orleans where this two-headed giant was dissolving the bottom half of someone with its acidic mouth, and the dude was hanging out and just looked like "ho-hum..."
Stoic indifference to your pain and death was considered a noble and faithful trait, like the Christian martyrs that also showed no fear when faced with torture and execution
@@wimmer3324 This is not pictures taken of an event, but a painting showing its significance. What was the purpose of the paintings in question? It was to beatify the sufferer. Thus, they had a stoic exit - even if in reality they might well have screamed their lungs out.

But what I don't understand about Islam is that the Koran teaches tolerance and forgiveness, yet it has a special place in hell for Christians and Jews. As if to say all Christians and Jews are not going to heaven no matter what. Does that seem hypocritical to you? Because the first level of Islamic hell is for hypocrites. @@tommygoode9644 I assume you know that Moses (Musa) and Jesus (Isa) both are important figures in Islam. Moses received the Thorah and Jesus received the Bible. In their lifetimes both preached the Oneness of God and called the people to believe in him alone without associating partners. The Thorah which we call Tawrat and The Bible which we call Injeel, both used to be divine books of revelation. Gods word the same way The Quran is gods word. In their times, the followers of Moses were following the word of the Thorah so they were Jews right? And the followers of Jesus were following the word of the Bible so they were Christians. Nonetheless both of these “groups” were believing in the unchanged scriptures and did not associate partners with God so they are Jews and Christians but are NOT the people of the hellfire. Fast forward to this day and age, as harsh as it sounds neither Thorah nor Injeel has been preserved. It has been corrupted and altered, so the followers of Judaism and the followers of Christianity as we know them today who believe and follow the altered words of these books have been mislead. It’s a hypocritical way of life to follow the books of corruption and not listen to the last preserved word of God which is the Quran. Does that make sense?

Its good you mentioned about the suffocation from fumes. That seems to be a common misconception from people. Rarely do people ever actually "burn alive". Suffocation from smoke inhalation and lack of oxygen are really what gets you first.
Actually it depended on how big the fire was and if the fire was lit under the condemned or around him or her. If a small fire was lit then I can guarantee you that the victim died in a tremendous agony and completely by burning.
Not to mention, boiling doesn’t kill your nerves very quickly. It is slow, and your organs literally cook, and you will likely feel it all. I’ll take burning, please.
Freshly dead humans smell like raw bacon. We have a very similar skin etc to pigs, and from what I can gather we also smell the same once cooked/burnt.
You gotta admire the dramatic irony of someone attempting to/succeeding in murdering someone with poison only to be “cooked alive” being punished the same way in which they delivered their own killings.
I've read a account from a survivor of the Hindenburg disaster that was badly burned but survived. She didn't feel any pain during the accident and for some time after. She said she was relieved that Joan of Arc didn't suffer. I've heard this from other survivors of bad burns. The pain comes later.

I scaled the top of my entire hand with boiling hot water at work recently. It was swollen for 2 days and then started to blister. I can only imagine how that must feel on one’s entire body!

The last few days have been hard for me cause I'm flat broke.. I haven't had any solid food in 3 days, I'm also a substance abuser who smokes (relies on) weed and cigarettes and drinks WAY too much coffee. Haven't had any of that in the last 3 days either and it's pretty hard to be honest. Waiting to get paid in 2 days time so I still got a little way to go. Watching these kinds of videos really slaps me in the face and makes me realize I'm fine and I need to harden the fuck up!

It’s hard to admit but I’m addicted to cocaine and use it pretty regularly, it’s extremely expensive here in Aus so I have this account set up where by 5pm Friday I can’t transfer any money from my savings for the entire weekend which helps immensely for impulse especially if I go have a few drinks Friday or Saturday night which is what will usually make me want and get some nose-beers. It actually helped again last night for my best mates gf’s bday lol all I could do was drink. U should do the same thing maybe. Spending money on that stuff rather than absolute necessities is a seriously bad issue mate. Doesn’t really sound like ur having a good time even after getting ur bud fix
As the common adult person living in that time was used to witnessing such torturous acts, it probably made the general population more prone to violence as a whole. The psychological terror of torture probably made most people more disciplined, but some ever more brutal and professional in their crime.

Its odd you dont mention that the hot air of the fire actually destroys the lungs pretty quick which is why the setup with the fire in a larger ring around the subject was devised, so their lungs would be preserved andvthey could fully experience the burnimg of their flesh

Worst pain I have felt so far, and I have had my fair share, was a 2nd degree burn from an open flame on the top of the knuckle above the nail. The definition of unbearable pain.

one thing that wasn't mentioned was recanting in cases of heresy. If you were accused of heresy, during your trial and up to being tied to the stake, you would be encouraged to "recant", that's to say, to renounce your beliefs and promise to step in line with whatever flavor of Christianity was enshrined in law at the time, which was usually Catholicism. If you refused to recant right up to the end, you would have burned. But if you DID recant (your last chance would be after you had been tied to the stake), you would be pardoned and released. I double, that can be true. If you get boiled, the damage will continue, until major damage to arteries, muscles and tissue of your limbs is happening. Your body will go into smock, and your pulse will eventually flat-line. So nope. You will not survive a medieval body-boiling. Remember, there was no doctors or nurse, who could TRY to help you either, IF you got pulled out of the vat... So that rejuvinated-thing is definitely not true. Wouldn't torture be the best deterrent to crime? Or should crimes go unpunished? The middle ground between the two is very similar to the prisons in current "civilized" countries which does little to rehabilitate their occupants. If only all people were "good"! 😥

Watching videos about people being boiled to death really makes me appreciate how my life turned out. I just keep telling myself "at least you aren't being boiled today". That shit takes like 6-8 minutes to kill a person. I can't imagine how much pain these people went through while boiling in oil or water. What crime must you commit to get such a sentence? Probably something petty like mumbling about how the King is so inbred that he's his own grandpa. Or stealing bread. That one is the main crime of the middle ages. Its always the most ridiculous shit that gets you boiled to death or burned at the stake. I think that they also cut people in half real slow starting at their genitals with the person flipped up side down so they stay alive longer. Prolonging the torture seems like it was a big part of it. It can't be quick if it's torture. Man these people were sick. What's wrong with humanity? Why do we have to do this? What's the point? Life was cheap back then. People just grabbed off the street and boiled or burned for having a book or something like that. I don't think people like each other. We need to work together not against each other. The government sees us as a threat. Can you believe that? The cruelty of humanity knows no bounds. Thank goodness in the US these punishments were illegal from the get go. Not that things don't happen, but state sanctioned horrific punishment is not permitted and you also get due process before you are punished.

I've heard stories about how if the executioner was "merciful", they would tie a bag of gunpowder around the victim's neck, so it would ignite when in contact with the flames, cause an explosion, and the victim would be killed more quickly. Not sure if those stories are true, though.
Even if true the flames have to get up pretty high before it got to the gunpowder, that's a lot of burning flesh and screaming before the gunpowder ignites, doesn't seem very merciful to me!
as a kid, i decided to set my parents bathroom aflame using cif bath foam. the door was shut, and my babysitter rushed into open the door as the flames were hitting the ceiling. then the backdraft happened : 10 seconds I was surrounded in fire. I can't imagine going through longer than that.
