I watched one of your videos from about a year ago and someone had commented that your channel sucked with no explanation and it made me chuckle because you just like brushed it off with no real concern and I like that because your stuff is awesome I watch your videos and it's just relaxes me it makes me wish I could be in the woods and when I can be in the woods I put your stuff on and just and see if I can do a bow drill or make a fire to recreate what you have done just to settle my nerves and distress from a crappy life so thank you and your stuff does Rock
I suck!!!! It dose piss me off, it's not nice especially with no explanation. I can remove nasty comments but I usually leave them as it makes the person look stupid. I did remove a comment that said "he sounds like a retard".
Dear Steven , thanks for being so positive and polite with your comment. A pleasure to read it. In these troubled times lots of folk suffer, but don't even attempt to do anything to ease their condition. You are aware of the pressure you have on yourself and are doing something in a gentle way to ease your nerves and distress. I wish you well and I'm 100% certain you are not the only one who finds Rob's videos informative and reassuring .
Some people are so miserable in their personal and daily lives they have to project that misery onto others and it is usually mostly from behind a screen. I usually don’t pay those types of idiots no attention but on rare occasions I do like to talk a lot of shit to them in hopes of making them feel worse than they already do, especially when they say stupid crap like you were describing.
Received mine today £72.60 with delivery from Heinnie Haynes, comes in a nice box, came shaving sharp and the spine is quite crisp but five mins with a file removed the black coating so it scrapes wood and sparks a ferro rod, sheath retension needed easing with some heat, wrapped the sheath for a couple of inches with jute twine sealed with duct tape and then a ranger band to hold a ferro rod; very pleased over all and my kukri has now officially retired, only one tiny niggle the thumb ramp is too small but I scout carry so it's not really an issue, many thanks Rob.
As far as the thumb ramp on the sheath take your same heat source for loosening it up to heating the ramp and make it bigger to suit your needs, I’ve done it on many of my kydex sheaths and not they’re as perfect as a sheath can be.
Your review of the mini tracker has convinced me to retire my small kukri and buy one, I have two Boker plus folders both UK legal and excellent for EDC and after watching other youtube reviews the value of that crescent/hook for making fine curls with virtually any wood of any size even greenwood is awesome, the Kydex sheath is a bonus and at under £70 you can't beat it, so cheers Rob.
Take it easy mate I wouldn't retire your khukri, these knifes have skeltonised handles and I'm 100% certain your khukri cam handle 10% the abuse these knifes can. I was on the fence about getting the larger tracker but hesitant because of the skeletonised handle.
Sausage OR KitKat shaped?! snap off what you needed from the bar. I use old toilet roll centres, add old candles, cotton balls, tissue paper and shredded junk mail. I like the knife. Good stuff Rob.
Hey mate, just found your review, thanks a lot! I got one of these in the other week and was blown away by how poorly finished it was. The grind were uneven and seriously obtuse, and the handles were still square with deep sanding scratches. I sent a message off the the place I bought it who confirm that the majority of the ones in stock looked similar. However.. is cost $90AUD, and you can't get a lot for that anymore! After a bit of time reprofiling the edges and giving the handle a bit more shape I don't mind it. The pattern isn't something I want to use all the time but its a bit of fun! Cheers
I’ve had one for over a year, it’s my favorite knife. I agree putting a keener edge on is necessary, but once on its amazing. As to using the quarter round for shavings (aka “curls”) you do need to stabilize the far end of the stick, makes it much easier as does holding by the blade for control. Also once sharp these are good carvers! If you want to see using a tracker taken to an art form, check out Bushcraft Costa Rica channel.
I just like the design. I'm still on the fence if it will be useful to me. Really for the price I might as well give it a try. I really don't see a down side, for my type of woods craft. I'm not a fan of the big heavy tracker knives. But this model seems like it could be useful.
No longer getting notifications for your videos - found this one purely by luck. I've had two Boker+ knives - neither would slice carrots, won't waste money on another.
Hi Howard, always Check as I usually post one a week. I don't know how RU-vid works and I'm not going to moan about it all the time like some of the bigboys do.
@@RobEvansWoodsman Good for You. Yes, there's one in particular, no names mentioned who has a go at RU-vid Every single video!! Gets really tiresome and boring in the end, Seems to think theyve got it in for him personally.
Never fancied one of these I thought they looked a bit gimmicky to be honest, it would obviously benefit from a good sharpen but it did seem to do okay in your testing. I did make a couple of them fire lighters when I was making pine pitch after watching Mark Bailey's vid, great idea, he doesn't seem to be making vids any more.
Even though it's a funky shape it seemed to do ok..I keep thinking of making a tracker with a convex tip and a scandi close to the ricasso 🤔 business at the front.. party at the back😁all the best Rob.. Lincoln 👍🤙
@@RobEvansWoodsman 🤬 you beat me to it😁👍used to think a saw on the back was a gimmick but have seen a you tube video on a kukri tracker made by origin knives that actually works 😉
If someones fire goes out after lighting it with one of these then they really should not be allowed out in the woods......Really surprised by the blade but I would be so annoyed to get a knife that is that blunt from reputable maker. Guess this is the China v Germany issue....👍👍
Hi, mate! How doing? Do you know if the tang is skeletonized? I saw a video showing one becoming a "folder": it broke after a few throws on wood. Have a great weekend, chap!
@@RobEvansWoodsman There is no denying of functionality of tracker knives but they are so ugly I could not get my head around of buying one. But for £70 it worth having one to try. But I think a tracker knife should be much bigger as they are generally used as one tool option. For this size of blade, I prefer to have a fine tip for detailed work. But in bigger knife that can actually chop like a small hatchet, I would not mind not having a fine tip.
Great review and they are under £70 in the UK. Mine came very sharp out the box. There is a review on RU-vid where a Spanish guy constantly throws his until it breaks. What an idiot. He appears to have loads of expensive knives, I bet he doesn’t put those through such abuse.
@@RobEvansWoodsman I had to re subscribe for some reason so you dropped off my radar. Looks like Boker are doing a full size and a micro version as well now so when Heinnie Haynes or Moonraker get them in they will be definitely be on my shopping list.
I've been considering the mini tracker for some time since I've seen many positive reviews. Still think it is too ugly and also beyond my minimal sharpening skills..
I agree but in a review, especially a new review, I agree with what @robevanswoodsman says about a knife being sharp out of the box. Now on the other hand if I was to go out camping or just taking a hike through the woods I’d definitely make sure my gear was the best it could be and my knives, DEFINITELY MY KNIVES, be as sharp as possible before I even leave the house and that I have a means of sharpening on the fly in my pack.
