Thanxs for the video is very informative. Wish the Yanks got Yammo and also have maybe Roki yet the Dodgers are probably gonna get Roki. Does Roki walk or is wild? Seem like Yamashita walks less and is more Greg Maddux and Roki more Tom Seaver. I know Japanese pitchers need time to get used to MLB yet wish we could get one of these Japanese Pitchers like Tanaka. Munetaka Murakami gonna be great when he is available. Lefty swing in Yankees stadium is perfect..

My top Sawamura favorites in 2024 are: Roki Sasaki Shunpeita Yamashita Hiroto Takahashi Kaima Taira Hiroya Miyagi Shoki Murakami That’s essentially my preseason tier 1. I don’t have a Discord but I have Twitter/X (@yakyucosmo) where I post more and interact with people.

@YakyuCosmoplitan If Ichiro, Darvish, and Ohtani spent their whole careers in the NPB how would they rank compared to these all-time greats? Masaichi Kaneda Tetsuya Yoneda Sadaharu Oh Isao Harimoto Yutaka Fukumoto

In terms of resume, Sadaharu Oh is the GOAT hitter and Masaichi Kaneda is the GOAT pitcher. Even if the others spent their entire careers in NPB it would be difficult to compare to those legends who played for so long and reached unparalleled milestones. That said, I don’t think the GOAT discussion should be limited to just resume so you can make a strong case for Ohtani based on how historic he is, and I would say Darvish/Yamamoto are the greatest Japanese pitchers ever based on peak and modern era dominance. Ichiro has the counting stats and the peak and maybe if he stayed in NPB and hit more homers he could be a GOAT candidate too. But I rank Ohtani higher.

By what metric are you saying Seiya was a top 25 hitter in MLB last year? Yes, his wRC+ was tied for 24th in MLB among qualified hitters, but would you say he was a better hitter than Judge or Yordan last year just because they didn't qualify. He was tied for 41st in wRC+ when you drop PA to 400 to include some of the injured guys (Judge and Alvarez), as well as the youngsters that were insane like Julien and McLain. I think that is more the range I'd put him in - that 40-50 range. He is not a top 25 hitter in MLB. He's around 45 for xwOBA too. Phenomenal hitter and made big strides this year. But top 25 is a high bar.

I said he finished as a top 25 hitter, which like you point out is accurate based on being 24th in wRC+ and 21st in OPS for qualified hitters. The numbers you point out are more predicative of future performance but I was specifically referring to his actual results in 2023. I still think he can reach 30 HR, especially if the second half adjustments hold up.
