Gotta admit Thak Ironworks has Master Mad Skills, and I enjoy all his work. That said Glen you will always be in my favorite Smith's group. As Grandpop said. Boy ya gotta dance with them what bring ya. So Glen, you've taught me much and have inspired my 1st tongs made in your rapid tongs builds. Loved this video to. I'd never thought of using bolt head for that. Now I just might...as I have some 3ft plus bolts I salvaged while unpacking our new crane at the yard. Probably 5/8 or 11/16 shaft and 15/16 heads. Oughta make great rapid tongs....w an awesome lil 💀 on the end of one reign ,🙏 Bless be Glen Crawford out ⚒️🧙‍♂️

Ha! Your Grand pop sounds like one smart fella. Give those tongs a go and using a bolt will make them that much more special. My skills are not on Thak's level but it takes all kinds in this world so I'll keep doing my thing. Thanks.

As usual you nailed it. (Well, bolted it I suppose is more accurate.) Nice job on the one in bar stock at the beginning. Didn’t get to see much of it though. You are always thinking outside the box and this was no exception. Thak is quite talented and I subscribe to his channel for his perspectives on forging as well as metal sculpting. Keep up your great work Glen.

I guess my main strength with my videos is I'm willing to try stuff I don't know a whole lot about, just to see and improve. I appreciate your encouragement. Thanks George.

I prefer the one in the middle at the end with the helmet on. Wonderful project. Maybe good for a handle on something, sort of a lever type thing... Interesting.... Thank you....

Ken howdy, leads me to ponder. I salvaged some finger dia bolts 3ft plus long from crane shipping materials. W a few of these monster bolts I'd planning on making some GS Ting quick tongs. Was wondering what to do w the bolt heads. Toyed w the diamond idea shown by JLP Services. Well this gives me another option eh? 🙏 Bless y'all now Crawford out ⚒️🧙‍♂️

I can imagine this sort of item (upsized some) being used as a stick shift lever on an old rat rod. Thanks Ken.

If you’re not happy with the elongated skull, forge it into a Conehead skull from SNL and the movie with Dan Aykroyd! But, I thought you did a great job!
@gstongs
@gstongs 4 года назад
There's something not quite right about that elongated skull but I also like it well enough to not turn it into a Conehead. Thanks and hope all is well.

I have noticed the jaws on your vise has been repaired. Did you do this? If so what welding rod did you use? I have one that needs the same repair.
@gstongs
@gstongs 4 года назад
It was more a change than repair. I didn't like the serrated, hardened jaws that came with the vise and so rather than make other bolt on jaws (which always get sloppy), I thought welded on jaws might work. I took it to a welder I often use and I believe he TIG welded them. We weren't sure how well it would hold up (not certain of the vise material) but it's worked well. Thanks.

The way this guy was whomping on that thing makes me think it had to be one tough bolt,a grade eight maybe?Whatever it was,I really enjoyed watching the video
@gstongs
@gstongs 4 года назад
It might have seemed like I was hammering like mad but the steel of this bolt actually felt very soft. They have HTS (I think, high tensile strength) stamped on top and the place where I got them said they were "iron" which here could mean mild steel. But they really felt as soft as pure iron... Thanks.

I like you don't have the space or resources to make a lot of things I would love to attempt. I'm led to your sight from time to time because of your thinking process and looking for acceptable results from less than desirable or more costly materials. Your willing to experiment is encouraging. While many may prefer your second skull in design features, both would markedly be more appealing with a reduced size in the neck area. As a frame sets off a painting, so can the base piece of metal around or below your main work. Your skull is great but might be markedly more appealing to many by simply reducing the bolt size below where you could have made a chin. Then the whole thing pops forward! Again, thanks for stepping outside the box!
