I hand forge blacksmith tongs of all kinds but also like to use my channel to experiment and forge items I normally wouldn't make. I work with minimal tooling and in an unusually small workspace. Glen - GS Tongs
I’ve watched most of your new home/ shop videos. Well done. Yes yes on the amount of coordination it takes nowadays. I did a house. And I supplied all the materials. Labor was by the square foot. A nightmare. But came in 9$ under budget.
rock isn't the best item to use, it can split, fracture, throw fragments in your face 99% of the time it will be uneven, if its flat the steel will make it uneven you would be better off with a thick plate of steel screwed to a tree stump / heavy log than a plain ol rock
Lookimg good Glen im happy for you. The only problem with sealing a home that tight is,,, they put a 4 to 6 inch fresh air vent in the return air duct so when it's 2,000 degrees in the summer you are trying to cool the outside air and when it's -200 in the winter you are trying to heat a that air.
Hey Glen…..make sure to take pictures of all the walls the you will have a record of where the wires are or plumbing. This will help in the future when you want to add items to the walls or find leaks or where not to put a nail through a water pipe. Go Yankees! Steve
Maaan!! I have some catching up to do…! Last time you And your wife were living over seas. Is this the property that you owned that you told us about some time ago? Either way!! Looking great. I’m so happy for you guys!! The caulking is to help air drafting, especially if there’s a fire! See ya soon again…
In California we call it the frame inspection. The last look before insultation and sheetrock. It really is coming along Glen. Great accomplishment for you! Your almost done!
So, you have your grog already, and sand. MacGyver needs a lot of graphite...easy, break those old batteries and you have it. The problem is how much of the mixes is needed. Don't use water, used glass water instead.
Moving right along Glen. Going to be a very nice comfortable home. Nowbthat im old i wish i had my first house that was only 1042 sqft. Less to clean than the 3500sqft.
I love your videos. It doesn't matter if you're blacksmithing, building a home, or scooting around Taiwan, they're all interesting. Being a detail oriented guy myself you left me wondering about that whole septic aeration pump problem. You said that the whole situation could have been avoided, I'm just wondering......how. I am wondering about your future plans. You mentioned installing the septic system three years ago and this summer building the house. Does that mean that you'll be moving to Washington state soon? For those that don't know, your tongs are absolutely top notch tongs! They are hefty, smooth, precisely made, and very clean. I bought eight pairs from you a few years back and although I have tongs from other makers, yours are the best. I am in a small amateur blacksmithing club of 12-15 guys and they are in agreement that you make some mighty fine tongs.
Ugh oh you made a big mistake ! Rebar needs minimum of 3 cm concrete thickness from all sides ,othervise it rusts and as it rusts its gonna crack the concrete. Not a big deal in your case since you can just sledge hammer it and make a new one ,but thats the most common mistake people make. Its also good idea to use a brush and put rust remover on rebar and then coat it with a hydro insulating cement( Ceresite cr90 for example.) on it with a brush .That way +concrete thickness = no future problems.
Buen trabajo.
Good exposed concrete Glen! The lil addition gives your step character!! Its good to see the electrician on site! Get your frame inspection, insulation and sheetrock!! Almost there!!
