Usain Bolt won the men's 400m at Saturday's (March 14) GC Foster Classic held at the National Stadium...Bolt finished ahead of Edino Steele #usainbolt ... trackalerts trackalerts trackalerts for more Usain Bolt videos
He did 45 flat as a teen, this is a 46 after years without training for it, not bad. I think it's fair to agree that he would probably had a 43 had he dedicated to the 400m.
Bolt has good muscle memory...He ran this race like a 400m athlete. He changed his mechanics for this race..This race is a living proof that he was once a 400m athlete.
In highschool I did: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000 in different years. I was primarily a mid-distance runner but did sprinting for fun in my senior year. Hardest to easiest: 800, 1500, 400, 3000, 200, 100. The hardest event on the track is 400 meter hurdles imo, never did it but you see guys get absolutley dead after the race. But the second is definetly 800m, you're expected to keep your 400m pace but double your distance which is ridiculous.
OMFGLOLROTFLWTF You're not expected to keep your 400m pace at all. Whoever told you this is very wrong! Haha. For a well trained runner you are looking at a 4 second lag over two laps. i.e. 46.0 for 400m equates to 1:40.0 for 800m (50.0 seconds per lap). This is pretty much a standard protocol for up to the 10,000m.
400m is the hardest of ALL runs. Wrecking run. If someone put a gun on my head and told me "to save your life, you will have to run one of these two - 400m or marathon" - I would chose the marathon... Really, I ran 400m just once, it's just - 100m wow, great running, 200m wow, still nice, I love it, 250m - O GOD PLEASE END IT, 300m - still 100m to go? That will hurt... and it does, I couldn't move for next 5 minutes and I'm not talking just about legs... It's a real killer
Just watching 400's makes me nauseous. Had to run two per meet in high school, and the 4x400 was directly after 200m finals. The pain coming out of the second turn is unholy. Feels like death every time. Never competed in the 800, but I'm sure that's savage as well. Let's keep it honest on here though, some guys are commenting that the 800 is harder because you're expected to run 400m pace. Clearly that's bullshit, and physically impossible. If you're dying from lactic acid by 36 seconds, how do you intend to run the next 500m? If man could physically sustain that pace, the WR in 800m would be roughly 1:27... not fucking happening.
I'm in high school and I just ran my first 400m (indoor) in an actual race, never doing it again. Props to you guys but I'll stick to 200m and below because I was a broken man at the last 100m.
400 is a brutal race. In the last 100 the legs tighten up and feel heavy and you are suffering and can't wait for the finish line. That goes for the winners too.
Conner Madison Only person who was in both the 200/400m finals in the last olympics was Lashawn Meritt and he didn’t do anything in the 200. While Andre and Bolt were 1&2 but also 1&3 for 100m. So no, I am not kidding you. It’s easy to choose to do both, but people who do both don’t tend to be good at both unlike 100m/200m.
Sam Hahn Is he slower at 100m and 200m now than he was in 2009 and 2012? Yes. Is he slowing down in this 400m? Yes, everybody slows down in the home straight of the 400m. Hope I've helped you out considering your limited knowledge of athletics. You're welcome buddy. ;)
The God of Zeus Ok, so much wrong with what you said. First of all, he broke the WR for the indoor 100m LAST YEAR. That was huge news, got under 10 sec, first time ever. Secondly, he doesn't run the 400m...like ever. He is at least 4 seconds behind the best in the world, and he's always been at that point, so he never runs it.
Usain ran 45 as a teen when he used to train for this. Honestly if he stayed strictly a 400m runner he would probably have still been a successful sprinter
love this guy, his body language after the line is my favorite, thats how i feel these days after 100m, when i used to tear it up in high school and college
I like. Speed endurance make speed work more effective. It looks hard because he has not done enough speed work to be comfortable stay injury free and he rule. I glad he got some rest last year that was the key.
that gives me confidence. i just started training and last time i did some 400 m alone, i was fried and i felt i was running on sand. i will dedicate to the 400m and learn to embrace the grind
Everyone saying he did a bad 400.... 1. The slowest you run is 85% 2. The 400 is the hardest race its a sprint 3. Lets see you do it without slowing down. 5. I'd be damned if you could sprint without getting tired and beat him. 6. 400m is more mental than physical 7. Youre to stupid to realize I missed 4.
+AMD u dumb cause the 800 the first lap is a pasty sprint the the second lap is is a all out all you got as the 400 that's a all out sprint which makes it the hardest sprint
The 400m is a hard race. But to me i loved it. I think the hardest race in track is the 800m. Just two 400m's put together. Usain is just a ridiculous athlete
The 800m is generally always harder no matter who you are. The length of the 800m is very brutal for most 400m runners. The 400m is half the distance but at only a little bit faster pace. Most 800m runners aren't particularly bothered by the faster speed.
+Fine Wine Daily trust me bro, it's not always like that. been running track for years and got these accounts from these runners as well as myself. the 400m pace be taxing for lots of 800m runners. just depends on how hot the competition is.
I did the 400 meter at my Track and Field season track meet,it is not easy and it is a race that tires you more than anything else on earth,This was a Challenge.
As a school runner when i was a lot younger at 400-800 m i always found the 400m way more knackering than the 800m . At least in a lot of 800m races if there was no pace you can jog for the first 300-400m but the 400m there is no chance of a break and by the last 50m you legs was like jelly lol
For those giving him lip about running a 46, go to a track and do a 400m dash at race pace. Most of you can't even get 55, yet alone 60 seconds. It's a very tough race.
well im a 400m sprinter/runner and my play is in september 12 ,2017 its now september 10 so its only 2 days as a runner im watching usain bolts running
I ran the 400m and 200m in high school. The 400m is no joke. It's basically a full sprint around the track. So it takes everything out of you for sure. If Bolt had really wanted to be a 400m runner in the past, he could have done really well. Probably broke records. He has the height and the stride for it. Plus he is a 200m runner. He knows how to come around the turns and he would have that kick for the final stretch. Great run.
Jamaican Egg Head Yes, realize he ran as a teen, but he no longer trains for the 400m. He simply runs one of these races at the beginning of the season to test his conditioning, and he runs it pretty well all things considered.
I see allot of comments on here arguing if the 400m or the 800m is harder. The truth is it depends on the individual athlete. If your more of a natural middle distance runner the 800 would be easier than the 400. If your more of a natural sprinter the 800 will be harder than the 400. I specialised in the 200 and for me the 800 was harder than the 400.
Everyone saying the 400m is the hardest event but they don't realize every distance event has a similar final lap. The 1600 is significantly harder simply for the fact that the last 400m effort is preceded by 3 high intensity laps. No hate on 400 dudes tho they are tough as nails
It's a shame he didn't continue training for the 400. He could have done the 100, 200, and 400. He probably would be really good at the 400 had he kept at it.
Crashed GFX bolt obviously has, or I mean did have the superior leg speed and stride length over van Niekerk I think it would have just been a matter of him improving his stamina and endurance but he even said it himself that he was too lazy for 400m kind of a shame but a legend none the less
Was a 200 M and relay specialist, but I HATED the 400 M. I did not have the explosivity for 100, but had good top speed. There is a mental factor; 400 M is a more tactical race. 100 and 200 are all out brute force races. Also, pure sprinters (IMO) are a bit psycho/adhd (I was). My upmost respect for 800 M runners, the toughest race there is.
When I was 15, I ran in a 400m final not knowing that I had been entered in it, nor that my main event, the 100m, was directly afterward. Basically I was being shafted to stop me winning the 100m. After the 400m, my nose was running like two taps, and I could hardly stand. fifteen minutes later my legs were still like jelly. I ran the 100m and clocked my slowest time ever, slower by a full second. It takes about an hour to recover from the 400m, because if run properly, you should have nothing left by the time you reach the home straight. You shouldn't be able to accelerate any faster at 300m. In the 800m you run it so you can Sprint the last 100m. The 400m is the toughest race of all.
Everyone talking about how the 400 is a hard race😂😂 hahaha don’t make me laugh. As the distance increases the effort gets harder and harder and the pain greater and greater. The 400 is a joke compared to a marathon.
I always wondered if THe Big U could have pulled off the amazing Olympics Triple Crown of sprinting with 100, 200, and the toughest race in all of track besides the steeplechase. Flo Jo showed her great versatility in almost gutting out 400-meter anchor leg victory in the relay vs. Russian Olympic champ but in the end, she faded against 400-meter power. Perhaps Lighting Bolt could have been a thunderstorm in the 400 as well. It seemed like he didn't even use his 5th gear at all in this easy win against so-so comp. But he is perhaps the greatest champion of our century including TB-12, Phelps, and all those tennis legends as well as the PED-stoked Lance Armstrong, who was a magnificent champion with guts, guile and grit to roll over his fellow two-wheeled cheaters.
i roughly clocked that at 45.5secs-if he trained at this event-like distance runners who run further as they age-does it apply to sprinters-ad say no-but with bolt-who knows-he deffo cud medal in 1 2 an 400 metres-a first-am nt aware of anyone whose done that
Usain bolt opening 400m is getting slower...seen him do faster...but i think he should go back to running the for hundred and leave the 100m and 200m for some one in the future to try break his records.... he is originally a 400m runner and if he could claim that he will truly be the King of sprint...
You can’t dedicate yourself to both sprints and 400m at the same time in my opinion, because of the endurance side to the 400m. High twitch muscles produce lactic acid very quickly after 200. Bolt would have the world record now though if it was his first choice
My track season just ended and yes the 400 meter race is brutal i did the open 400 and got a 52.6 which was my best time so far Andre open 200 where I got a 23 and my 4x400 where I split a 52.8 Im only a sophomore and this is my first year running and in the beginning of the year I didn’t know how to work blocks and I didn’t even know what a split was either😂💀
